Health reporting or health news is an aspect of health communication through which the audiences are informed of all matters relating to their total well-being. In this paper, the authors investigated news reporting among broadcast outfits in Lagos-Nigeria as a measure to monitor or watchdog and report the reporter to his clients. The investigation was in two parts: One looked at his strategies in covering and reporting health in the environment; while the other examined news bulletins to subject its health news to a content analysis. The study revealed that health is a neglected concern in broadcast reporting with trigger or vulture approach/practice among broadcast outfits.展开更多

Methods and Materials: A randomly sampled population of 280 students and 12 managerial staff of sport and medical units participated in the descriptive study. Responses to a validated questionnaire provided the source of data. A test-retest reliability coefficient (r) = 0.80. Data were analyzed with simple percentages and Chi-square at 〈 0.05 alpha level. Results: All the respondents in medical centre and sport unit oriented the students on the available medical services and facilities on campus: availability of first aid services, treatment services for complicated injuries (inpatient), referral services for specialized care, financial support during hospitalization. Complementary results from the students showed that the majority of the respondents (50%) strongly agreed that medical centre was available in the Campus, and 36% strongly affirmed to availability of first aid services. Thirty four percent of the respondents strongly agreed to the availability of treatment services, while 40% of the respondent agreed to the availability of free medical services. The study revealed that there was a significant relationship between efficient medical services and students' participation in sports. Conclusion: All medical services were available but students perceive the services as inefficient which implies poor or non utilization.展开更多

This is against the backdrop of Tridentine liturgy whereby the worship is looked up as an exclusive leadership function of the priests alone to lord it over others. It identifies lack of active participation by the lay faithful as one of the major factors escalating passive participation in the liturgical celebrations in Nigeria. In this way, the paper argues that rethinking ministerial leadership is a medium to promote active and parish liturgical participation. Their implications suggest the bishops and priests to ensure that the lay faithful take part fully aware of their ministerial leadership role, actively engaged in the rite and enriched by its effects. Employing descriptive and analytical methods, the mantra of the paper is that in a parish worship where liturgical ministers thrives well as ministerial leaders, it produces mature Christian faithful who know their faith, understand their liturgical roles and diligently exercise them. Such a parish community operates on a level of facilitative and participatory leadership where everyone is carried along through direct participation in directing the liturgical celebrations of the parish.展开更多
