For the purpose of carrying out the large deformation finite element analysis of spatial curved beams,the total Lagrangian(TL)and the updated Lagrangian(UL)incremental formulations for arbitrary spatial curved bea...For the purpose of carrying out the large deformation finite element analysis of spatial curved beams,the total Lagrangian(TL)and the updated Lagrangian(UL)incremental formulations for arbitrary spatial curved beam elements are established with displacement vector interpolation,which is improved from component interpolation of the straight beam displacement.A strategy of replacing the actual curve with the isoparametric curve is used to expand the applications of the UL formulation.The examples indicate that the process of establishing the curved beam element is correct,and the accuracy with the curved beam element is obviously higher than that with the straight beam element.Generally,the same level of computational accuracy can be achieved with 1/5 as many curved beam elements as otherwise with straight beam elements.展开更多

It is simplified with two normal situations: one situation involves one straight lane and one left-turn lane; the other situation involves two straight lanes and one left-turn lane. The results show that the capacity is mainly relative to signal cycle length, phase length, intersection layout and following time. With regard to the vehicles arrival rates, the optimal model is derived based on each phase's remaining time balance, and it is solved by Lagrange multipliers. Therefore, the calculation models of the optimal signal cycle length and phase lengths are derived and simplified. Compared to the existing models, the proposed model is more convenient and practical. Finally, a practical intersection is chosen and its signal cycles and phase lengths are calculated by the proposed model.展开更多

The ALE kinemat ical description is introduced to move the computational mesh...Base d on fluid velocity potential, an ALE finite element formulation for the analysi s of nonlinear sloshing problems has been developed. The ALE kinemat ical description is introduced to move the computational mesh independently of f luid motion, and the container fixed noninertial coordinate system is employed to establish the governing equations so that the mesh is needed to be updated in this coordinate system only. This leads to a very simple mesh moving algorithm which makes it easy to trace the motion of the moving boundaries and the free su rface without producing undesirable distortion of the computational mesh. The fi nite element method and finite difference method are used spacewise and timewise , respectively. A numerical example involving either forced horizontal oscillati on or forced pitching oscillation of the fluid filled container is presented to illustrate the effectiveness and the robustness of the method. In additi on, this work can be extended for the fluid structure interaction problems.展开更多
The gas-droplet two-phase reacting flow in a model combustor with the V-gutter flame holder is studied by an Eulerian-Lagrangian large-eddy simulation (LES) approach. The k-equation subgrid-scale model is used to simu...The gas-droplet two-phase reacting flow in a model combustor with the V-gutter flame holder is studied by an Eulerian-Lagrangian large-eddy simulation (LES) approach. The k-equation subgrid-scale model is used to simulate the subgrid eddy viscosity, and the eddy-break-up (EBU) combustion subgrid-scale model is used to determine the chemical reaction rate. A two-step turbulent combustion subgrid-scale model is employed for calculating carbon monoxide CO concentration, and the NO subgrid-scale pollutant formation model for the evaluation of the rate of NO formation. The heat flux model is applied to the prediction of radiant heat transfer. The gas phase is solved with the SIMPLE algorithm and a hybrid scheme in the staggered grid system. The liquid phase equations are solved in a Lagrangian frame in reference of the particle-source-in-cell (PSIC) algorithm. From simulation results, the exchange of mass, moment and energy between gas and particle fields for the reacting flow in the afterburner with a V-gutter flame holder can be obtained. By the comparison of experimental and simulation results, profile temperature and pollutant of the outlet are quite in agreement with experimental data. Results show that the LES approach for predicting the two-phase instantaneous reacting flow and pollutant emissions in the afterburner is feasible.展开更多

Results\ The gas flow velocity distribution formula at the back of a projectile and the momentum equation of a traveling charge are deduced, and rules governing their pressure distribution under the Lagrange hypothesis conditions are established. The pressure distribution of a traveling charge is compared with that of a conventional charge. Conclusion\ The pressure distribution in the bore of a traveling charge can be accurately predicted.
