Micro-mixing is an important aspect for fast or quasi-instantaneous reactions. Poor micro-mixing might produce more undesired by-products, leading to higher purification costs. This paper gives an extensive review and analysis of micro-mixing studies in single- and multi phase stirred tanks. The relevant experiment techniques, micro-mixing models and nurherical approaches are critically reviewed and analyzed with remarks and perspectives. The reported studies on two-phase micro-mixing experiments and on the impact of the presence of the dispersed phases on turbulence have been limited to a narrow range of conditions. More importantly, disparities widely exist among different reports. Both Lagrangian and Eulerian models are based on oversimplified assumptions, which may lead to uncertainties or even unrealistic results. A heuristic model, which is from the perspective of CFD (computational fluid dynamics) and can cover the whole spectrum of scales and also focus on every subrocess, is desired in the future.展开更多

Therefore, surplus energy of a node can be utilized for strengthening packet delivery efficiency and improving data collection rate. In this work, we propose an algorithm to compute an upper data generation rate that maximizes it as an optimization problem for a network with multiple sinks, which is formulated as a linear programming problem. Subsequently, a dual problem by introducing Lagrange multipliers is constructed, and subgradient algorithms are used to solve it in a distributed manner. The resulting algorithms are guaranteed to converge to an optimal data generation rate, which are illustrated by an example in which an optimum data generation rate is computed for a network of randomly distributed nodes. Through extensive simulation and experiments, we demonstrate our algorithm is efficient to maximize data collection rate in rechargeable wireless sensor networks.展开更多

By telling the saga of these two women (mother and daughter), the novel also makes a reinterpretation of the origin and history of the peoples of Africa. Beyond the issues that mark the secular submission of women to the world of man in certain African societies, Paulina Chiziane also leads us to confront the issue of reductionism practiced by those who look from outside Africa and seeks to present its history and its literature as if the African continent were a single country, as reported by the Nigerian novelist Chimamanda Adichie in her speech against "the danger of listening and repeating a single story, the winners' story" (Adichie, 2009). We aim to identify aspects of the unique feminine of Paulina Chiziane by rescuing legends of matriarchy in the course of the characters. We will also do a reading of colonialism and post-colonialism objectifying the female of writing Paulina Chiziane. The critical placement of the text allows us to analyze it with the contribution of Spivak (2010), Said (1978), Bonnici (2000), among others.展开更多

In this dilemma, it appears that the oil communities are powerless in the face of the obnoxious display of might and the right to make and apply policies that affect the general well-being of the Niger Delta people and their environment. The question that might arise in this situation is the ethical perception of some of those who make and execute policies about the ecological problems of the region. Therefore, this paper focuses on discussing eco-justice in the light of Jesus teaching on equity and equality in Matt. 7.12, where he counsels that human actions on the others should be moderated by the actors' desire for his well-being.展开更多

Resulting from the separable structure of the proposed model, the convex optimization problem can be solved efficiently by adopting an inexact augmented Lagrange multiplier (IALM) method. Additionally, a random projection accelerated technique (IALM+RP) was adopted to improve the success rate. From the preliminary numerical comparisons, it was indicated that for the standard robust principal component analysis (PCA) problem, IALM+RP was at least two to six times faster than IALM with an insignificant reduction in accuracy; and for the outlier pursuit (OP) problem, IALM+RP was at least 6.9 times faster, even up to 8.3 times faster when the size of matrix was 2 000×2 000.展开更多

A study of Igbo language and identity is pertinent because language and culture are attached to man's identity and human interaction Unfortunately, most of the Igbos do not want to be identified with this language called Igbo. The paper reviewed available literature on Igbo language and highlighted some strategies for increasing the interest of people in learning Igbo language. It was discovered from the study that pedagogical problems, tone problems, orthography and diacritic problems, are some of the issues that inhibit the repositioning of Igbo language as lgbo man's identity In view of this, it was recommended among others that Igbo linguist should try and document all the slight phonological and word differences existing in the dialects and absorb them in central Igbo展开更多

In this paper, the numerical method to tackle the nonlinear eontact and large deformation problem in A Software on Large Deformation Analysis for Soft Rock Engineering at Great Depth was presented. In the software, based on Lagrange multiplier method and Coulomb friction law, kinematic constraints on contact boundaries were introduced in functional function, and the finite element equations was established for two incremental large deformation analyses models, polar decomposition model and additive decomposition model. For every incremental loading step, by searching for the contact points in the potential contact interfaces (the excavation boundaries), the Lagrange multipliers, i.e., contact forces are cal- culated iteratively by Gauss-Seidel method, and justified through satisfy the inequalities of static constraint on contact boundaries. With the software, large deformation and frictional contact of a transport roadway were analyzed numerically by the two models. The numerical examples demonstrated the efficiency of the method used in the software.展开更多

Moreover, there are concerns that patients with depression are not always seeking the treatment they need, in part due to the stigma associated with the illness. Despite of increasing public awareness of depression, the stigma has not lessened, but has changed in form. Previous studies report that depression which was once viewed as a special psychiatric illness is now viewed as a "common" mental illness. The author, too, believes that the nature of the stigmatization has changed in recent years to become more complex and ultimately continues to present a barrier to treatment for people with depression. This study aims to explore how the stigmatization has changed by examining one specific aspect in society that may have contributed to this change, namely, the media's portrayal of depression. The author presents and discusses clear examples of how the Japanese media's portrayals of depression have changed, particularly over the last 20 to 30 years, and discusses how media influence could have contributed to the shifts in stigmatization, with reference to labeling theory and growing social isolation.展开更多

The modified augmented Lagrange multiplier methods (MALMM) for large-scale nonlinear constrained minimization are studied in this paper. The Lagrange function contains the penalty terms on equality and inequality constraints and the methods can be applied to solve a series of bound constrained sub-problems instead of a series of unconstrained sub-problems. The steps of the methods are examined in full detail. Numerical experiments are made for a variety of problems, from small to very large-scale, which show the stability and effectiveness of the methods in large-scale problems.展开更多

The paper relies on secondary data, sourced from journals, government documents and private individuals. From these sources the paper discovered that climate change poses a wide range of health risks to human health which include direct effects on human health resulting from increase in temperature and amplified air pollution that increase in temperature needs high incidence of vector-borne diseases such as malaria, dysentery and cholera among others. Climate change also leads to rising sea levels which contaminates coastal fresh water and makes low-lying areas vulnerable to flooding. Flooding results in frequent incidences of malaria, cholera, typhoid to mention but few. It also leads to the displacement of people and resource conflicts, e.g., land and water, and post-disaster mental health problem. Finally the paper suggests that after flooding, affected settlements should be fumigated before people pack tack in order to reduce the incidences of cholera, malaria and dysentery among others, and that to reduce the discharge of carbon into the atmosphere alternative source of energy to fuel wood, must be put in place by the government.展开更多
