Methods: Peripheral blood Th and Tc cell subpopu-lations were examined by three-color flow cytometry in 30 patients with secondary early syphilis and 20 healthy subjects. Results: Percentages of CD3+ CD4+ T cells and the ratio of CD4+CD8+ and NK cells in syphilitic patients were significantly lower than in the control group (P<0.001), but no statistical difference was found in percentages of CD8+ and CD19+ cells between the two groups (P > 0.05). The percentage of Th1 cells and ratios of Th1/Th2 and Tc1/Tc2 in syphilitic patients were clearly decreased as compared to those in controls (P<0.001-0.01), whereas percentages of Tc0 and Tc2 cells in syphilitics was higher than those in controls(P<0.001). Conclusion: There could be a disturbance of cellular immunity and the relatively intact function of humoral immunity in secondary syphilis. It is postulated that the polarization toward development of Th2 and Tc2 cells and their associated cytokines might be involved in the incomplete clearance of treponemes and the development of chronic infection.展开更多

Activation of Cdk7 requires its association with a regulatory subunit, Cyclin H. Although the Cdk7/Cyclin H complex has been implicated in the regulation ofRNA polymerase in several species, the precise function of their orthologs in zebrafish has not been fully elucidated. In this study, we isolated from zebrafish blastula embryos two cDNAs encoding the orthologs of human Cyclin H and Cdk7, and examined the role of Cdk7/Cyclin H in zebrafish embryogenesis. Sequence analysis showed that the zebrafish Cyclin H and Cdk7 cDNAs encode proteins with 65% and 86% identity to the respective hu- man orthologs. RT-PCR and whole-mount in situ hybridization analyses of their expression in unfertilized eggs, embryos and organs of adult fish suggested that Cyclin H and Cdk7 messages are maternally loaded. Our data also showed that their transcripts were detected throughout development. Distribution of Cyclin H transcripts was found to be ubiquitous during early stages of development and become restricted to the anterior neural tube, brain, eyes, procreate tissues, liver and heart by 5 days post-fertilization. Expression of a dominant-negative form of Cyclin H delayed the onset of zygotic transcription in the early embryo, resulting in apoptosis at 5 hours post-fertilization and leading to sever defects in tis- sues normally exhibiting high levels of Cyclin H expression. These results implicate Cyclin H in the regulation of the transcriptional machinery during midblastula transition and suggest that it is an essential gene in early zebrafish larval development.展开更多

Methods: T-lymphocyte subpopulations of the peripheralblood in 44 patients with syphilis and 40 healthy controls wereexamined by flow cytometry. Results: The number of CD_4+ cells and the CD_4+/CD_8+ ratioin patients with syphilis were found to be significantly lowerthan those in the control (P<0.0l), while the number of CD_8+cells was higher than that in the control (P<0.01). TheCD_4+/CD_8+ ratio in those with active disease was lower thanthat in those who had been cured (P<0.05). The CD_4+ countand the CD_4+/CD_8+ ratio in those treated with antibiotics alone(Penicillin G or Cephalosporins) were lower than those treatedwith both antibiotics and immunomodulators (P<0.05). Conclusions: Cellular immunity in the patients with earlysyphilis was prominently suppressed, and treatment withimmunomodulators may be helpful for the recovery of cellularimmunity of these patients.展开更多

It provides very useful information for a new solar cycle as its variation reflects the temporal evolution of the dynamic process of solar magnetic activities from the initial phase to the peak phase of the cycle. The correlation coefficient between the solar maximum (Rmax) and the rising rate (βa) at Am months after the solar minimum (Rmin) is studied and shown to increase as the cycle progresses with an inflection point (r = 0.83) at about Am = 20 months. The prediction error of Rmax based on βa is found within estimation at the 90% level of confidence and the relative prediction error will be less than 20% when Am ≥ 20. From the above relationship, the current cycle (24) is preliminarily predicted to peak around October, 2013 with a size of Rmax = 84 + 33 at the 90% level of confidence.展开更多
