The methods and models are unsuitable as geoelectric models of conductive surrounding rocks because they are based on regular local targets. We also propose a calculation and analysis scheme based on numerical simulations of the subsurface transient electromagnetic fields. In the modeling of the electromagnetic fields, the forward modeling simulations are performed by using the finite-difference time-domain method and the discrete image method, which combines the Gaver–Stehfest inverse Laplace transform with the Prony method to solve the initial electromagnetic fields. The precision in the iterative computations is ensured by using the transmission boundary conditions. For the response analysis, we customize geoelectric models consisting of near-borehole targets and conductive wall rocks and implement forward modeling simulations. The observed electric fields are converted into induced electromotive force responses using multicomponent observation devices. By comparing the transient electric fields and multicomponent responses under different conditions, we suggest that the multicomponent-induced electromotive force responses are related to the horizontal and vertical gradient variations of the transient electric field at different times. The characteristics of the response are determined by the varying the subsurface transient electromagnetic fields, i.e., diffusion, attenuation and distortion, under different conditions as well as the electromagnetic fields at the observation positions. The calculation and analysis scheme of the response consider the surrounding rocks and the anomalous field of the local targets. It therefore can account for the geological data better than conventional transient field response analysis of local targets.展开更多

The re- sults showed that he absorption coefficient aCDOM(440) ranged from 0.37 m-1 to 3.93 m-1 with an average of 1.89 ± 0.76 m-1 (±SD) for the aggregated dataset, and S varied from 0.0048 nm -1 to 0.0239 nm-1 with an average of 0.0108 ±0.0040 nmI. A significant relation- ship between S and aCDOM(440) can be fitted with a power equation (S = 0.013 × aCDOM(440)-0.42, R2 = 0.612), excluding data from Geist Reservoir during high flow (12 April 2010) and the Morse Reservoir on 25 June 2010 due to a T-storm achieves even higher determina- tion coefficient (R2 = 0.842). Correlation analysis indicated that aCDOM(440) has strong association with inorganic suspended matter (ISM) concentration (0.231 〈 R2 〈 0.786) for each of the field surveys, and this trend followed the aggregated datasets (R2 = 0.447, p 〈 0.001). In contrast, chlorophyll-a was only correlated with aCDOM(440) in summer and autumn (0.081 〈 R2 〈 0.763), indicating that CDOM is mainly from terrigenous sources in early spring and that phytoplankton contributed during the algal blooming season. The S value was used to characterize CDOM origin. The results indicate that the CDOM source is mainly controlled by hydrological varia- tions, while phytoplankton originated organic matter also closely linked with CDOM dynamics in three productive reservoirs.展开更多

The first-order moments of all kinds of flames used in our experiments present irregularly flickering, and their average changing pixel numbers of first-order moments are greater than fire-like disturbances. For the analysis of flicker frequency of flame, which is extracted and calculated in spatial domain, and therefore it is computational simple and fast. The method of extracting flicker frequency from video images is not affected by the catalogues of combustion material and distance. In experiments, we adopted two kinds of flames, i. e. , fixed flame and movable flame. Many comparing and disturbing experiments were done and verified that the methods can be used as criteria for early fire detection.展开更多

In the most of previous research, the effects were usually regime has received much attention of scholars during the past few evaluated through the numerical models and many important results are found. However, less examples and insufficient data based on field measurements are available to show natural cases. In the present work, a typical case study in Mohe and Beijicun meteorological stations, which both are located in the most northern tip of China, is given to show the effects of snow cover on the ground thermal regime. The spatial (the ground profile) and time series analysis in the extremely snowy winter of 2012-2013 in Heilongjiang Province are also performed by contrast with those in the winter of 2011-2012 based on the measured data collected by 63 meteorological stations, Our results illustrate the positive (warmer) effect of snow cover on the ground temperature (GT) on the daily basis, the highest difference between GT and daily mean air temperature (DGAT) is as high as 32.35℃. Moreover, by the lag time analysis method it is found that the response time of GT from 0 cm to 20 cm ground depth to the alternate change of snow depth has 10 days lag, while at 40 cm depth the response of DGAT is not significant. This result is different from the previous research by modeling, in which the resnonse denth of ground to the alteration of snow depth is far more than 40 cm.展开更多

With the combined action of the ax, fire and pasture, these ecosystems are subjected to a pressure of permanent degradation. Indeed, the degradation of the forest ecosystems represents one of the most important causes of reduction and erosion of the biodiversity in the world. The massif of Aur6s is located in the North-East of Algeria. The analysis of the spatiotemporal dynamics of this vulnerable vegetation is not approached yet. This study proposes a focus on the analysis of the dynamics of this vegetation and to study the factors of its degradation. For that, a methodological approach of diachronic follow-up between two dates was adopted by using any kind of old information sources (archives, aerial photographs, topographic maps) and recent (Images satellite of American Landsat and data of land). The results reveal a degradation of vegetable cover thus expressing a very thorough reduction of the formations forest replaced by herbaceous formations very sensitive and threatened by the overgrazing.展开更多

Homomorphic wavelet estimation has long utilized as a method that uses a seismic stack section with no phase presumption. Forming a stack section, normal move-out (NMO) correction must be applied on common midpoint (CMP) gathers, although it introduces NMO stretching. After stacking, residual of the NMO stretching may affect the stack section even after muting the highly stretched zone of the NMO corrected CMP gather. Presence of significant residual NMO stretching changes the spectral characteristics of data in time direction, by different degrees. Considering that in homomorphic process the wavelet is estimated based on the spectral characteristics of data, compensating for the residual NMO stretching, can improve the accuracy of the process. Here, we introduce a fast method of calculating the amount of residual NMO stretching and compensating for its effect on wavelet estimation. The proposed method needs limited prestack information like offsets and velocity function and include no prestack processing. We apply the proposed method on synthetic and real datasets and demonstrate the improvement of the estimated wavelet.展开更多

In this study, three different geometries of tanks with H/D (height to diameter) ratios of 2.0, 0.56, 1.0, and D/t (depth to thickness) ratios of 960.0, 1,706.67 and 640.0 respectively were analyzed for stability when subjected to the E1 Centro earthquake at the base. The Budiansky and Roth procedure was used to find the buckling loads when the tanks were empty and when they were filled with liquid up to 90% of their depth. Also, nonlinear time history analysis using ANSYS finite element computer program was performed. Analysis results show that the dynamic buckling occurs for empty tanks at very high PGA (peak ground accelerations) which are unrealistic even for major earthquakes. Furthermore, when the tanks filled with water up to 90% of its height, analysis results show that when the H/D ratio reduced by two times (i.e., from 2 to 1), the PGA for the buckling increased by six times (increase from 0.25g to 1 .Sg). Hence, H/D ratio plays an important role in the earthquake stability design of over ground steel tanks.展开更多

Because few recent studies have focused on eco-risk changes of land use in the areas affected by significant policies, this paper took Zhengning County in Gansu Province as our focal area, and studied spatial-temporal changes in ecological risk before and after policy implementation. Based on indices of landscape fragmentation and ecosystem service value, an ecological risk assessment method using ArcGIS and Fragstats was done. The regional gravity center model and land spatial distribution model were also used to enrich the quantitative description of divisional eco-risk and its spatial-temporal variation in the county. Results showed that the implementation of the policy has contributed to an overall reduction in ecological risk in Zhengning County, with a divisional degree order reduction following the pattern: eastern Zhengning 〉 western Zhengning 〉 central Zhengning. The gravity center for eco-risk shifted 4288 m southwest from 1995 to 2010 due to landscape fragmentation. The study implies that greater attention should be paid to forest and grassland restoration in eastern Zhengning, cropland protection in central Zhengning, and soil and water conservation in western Zhengning.展开更多

TNSP vegetation research has important ecological meaning and profound social and economic signiifcance. Here, spatio-temporal variation in vegetation cover under the TNSP was examined using the NDVI average method, major climatic factors such as temperature and precipitation, and linear regression trend analysis from 1982 to 2006. We found that in the past 25 years, NDVI vegetation in the study area has consistently risen at a rate of 0.007 per decade. Vegetation cover, temperature and precipitation are positively correlated. The area of vegetation associated with precipitation is larger than the area related to temperature;precipitation is the key factor affecting vegetation growth across the TNSP. From 1982 to 2006, regions with improved vegetation cover were found in the central and southern part of the Greater Khingan Mountains, central part of the Lesser Khingan Mountains, northeastern part of the Changbai Mountains, Yanshan Mountians, Western Liaoning Hilly Region, Altai Mountains, Tien Shan Mountains, eastern part of the Qilian Mountains, eastern part of the northwest desert as wel as southern part of the Gul y Region of the Loess Plateau. However, vegetation cover declined on both sides of the Greater Khingan Mountains, western part of the Hulun Buir Plateau, northern part of the Sanjiang Plain, southern part of Horqin Sandy Land, southern part of the northwest desert and northern part of the Gul y Region of the Loess Plateau.展开更多

In this paper, we review two data-driven time-frequency analysis methods that we introduced recently to study trend and instantaneous frequency of nonlinear and nonstationary data. These methods are inspired by the empirical mode decomposition method (EMD) and the recently developed compressed (compressive) sensing theory. The main idea is to look for the sparsest representation of multiscale data within the largest possible dictionary consisting of intrinsic mode functions of the form {a(t) cos(0(t))}, where a is assumed to be less oscillatory than cos(θ(t)) and θ '≥ 0. This problem can be formulated as a nonlinear ι0 optimization problem. We have proposed two methods to solve this nonlinear optimization problem. The first one is based on nonlinear basis pursuit and the second one is based on nonlinear matching pursuit. Convergence analysis has been carried out for the nonlinear matching pursuit method. Some numerical experiments are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methods.展开更多

In the two-level method, we first run a local algorithm to get a good approximation of the instantaneous frequency. The two-level method alleviates the difficulty of the mode mixing to some extent. We also present a method to reduce the end effects.展开更多

We have explored the dynamics of plankton ecosystem with multiple delays; one due to gestation period in the growth of phytoplankton population and second due to the delay in toxin liberated by TPP. It is established that a sequence of Hopf bifurcations occurs at the interior equilibrium as the delay increases through its critical value. The direction of the Hopf bifurcation and the stability of the bifurcating periodic solutions are determined using the theory of normal form and center manifold. Meanwhile, effect of toxin on the stability of delayed plankton system is also established numerically. Finally, numerical simulations are carried out to support and supplement the analytical findings.展开更多

文摘We calculate the multicomponent responses of surface-hole transient electromagnetic method. The methods and models are unsuitable as geoelectric models of conductive surrounding rocks because they are based on regular local targets. It therefore can account for the geological data better than conventional transient field response analysis of local targets.

文摘Wavelet estimation is a common step in seismic data processing and inversion. We apply the proposed method on synthetic and real datasets and demonstrate the improvement of the estimated wavelet.

文摘Large thin walled cylindrical above ground tanks have become more susceptible to failure by buckling during earthquakes. Hence, H/D ratio plays an important role in the earthquake stability design of over ground steel tanks.

文摘The Grain-for-Green Policy aims to convert cropland to grassland and forest across western China, and evaluating ecological risk is essential to its implementation. The study implies that greater attention should be paid to forest and grassland restoration in eastern Zhengning, cropland protection in central Zhengning, and soil and water conservation in western Zhengning.

文摘The Shelterbelt Forest System Program in northeast, north and northwest China (the Three-North Shelterbelt Program, TNSP) is the largest ecological reforestation program in the world. However, vegetation cover declined on both sides of the Greater Khingan Mountains, western part of the Hulun Buir Plateau, northern part of the Sanjiang Plain, southern part of Horqin Sandy Land, southern part of the northwest desert and northern part of the Gul y Region of the Loess Plateau.

文摘Adaptive data analysis provides an important tool in extracting hidden physical information from multiscale data that arise from various applications. Some numerical experiments are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

文摘In this paper, an integrated validation method and process are developed for multivariate dynamic systems. The principal component analysis approach is used to address multivariate correlation and dimensionality reduction, the dynamic time warping and correlation coefficient are used for error assessment, and the subject matter experts (SMEs)’ opinions and principal component analysis coefficients are incorporated to provide the overall rating of the dynamic system. The proposed method and process are successfully demonstrated through a vehicle dynamic system problem.

文摘This paper aims to study the Earth's temporal inertia moment and its influence on length of day (LOD). First, the GRACE data are processed by wavelet analysis to remove abnormal jumps and noises. Then the theoretical impacts of the second-order potential coefficients on the inertia moment and LOD are studied. Finally, the processed GRACE data are applied and results show that mass redistribution has led to decreasing tendencies of inertia moment and LOD as well as some unexpected seasonal oscillations in the recent 6 years.

文摘Based on the recently developed data-driven time-frequency analysis(Hou and Shi, 2013), we propose a two-level method to look for the sparse time-frequency decomposition of multiscale data. In the two-level method, we first run a local algorithm to get a good approximation of the instantaneous frequency. We then pass this instantaneous frequency to the global algorithm to get an accurate global intrinsic mode function(IMF)and instantaneous frequency. The two-level method alleviates the difficulty of the mode mixing to some extent. We also present a method to reduce the end effects.
文摘A mathematical model describing the dynamics of toxin producing phytoplankton- zooplankton interaction with instantaneous nutrient recycling is proposed. Finally, numerical simulations are carried out to support and supplement the analytical findings.
