The simulation is performed in the environment of free space with a simplified three- dimensional human body model. Results show that the path loss at a higher radio frequency is significantly smaller. Given that the transmitter and the receiver are located on the body trunk, the path loss relevant to the proposed minimum equivalent surface distance follows a log-fitting parametric model, and the path loss exponents are 4. 7, 4. 1 and 4. 0 at frequencies of 2. 4, 5.2, 5.7 GHz, respectively. On the other hand, the first- arrival delays are less than 2 ns at all receivers, and the maximum time delay spread is about 10 ns. As suggested by the maximum time delay spread, transmission rates of W-BSN must be less than 10^8 symbol/s to avoid intersymbol interference from multiple-path delay.展开更多

The monitoring data were first modeled as ARMA models, while a principalcomponent matrix derived from the AR coefficients of these models was utilized to establish the Mahalanobisdistance criterion functions. Then, a new damage-sensitive feature index DDSF is proposed. A hypothesis test involving the t-test method is further applied to obtain a decision of damage alarming as the mean value of DDSF had significantly changed after damage. The numerical results of a three-span-girder model shows that the defined index is sensitive to subtle structural damage, and the proposed algorithm can be applied to the on-line damage alarming in SHM.展开更多

The functional-series time-dependent auto regressive moving average (FS-TARMA) time series model is applied to the vibration signal observed in the time-varying system for estimating the TAR/TMA parameters and the innovation variance. These parameters are the functions of the time, represented by a group of projection coefficients on the certain functional subspace with specific basis functions. The estimated TAR/TMA parameters and the innovation variance are further used to calculate the latent components (LCs) as the more informative data for health monitoring evaluation, based on an eigenvalue decomposition technique. LCs are then combined and reduced to numerical values (NVs) as feature sets, which are input to a probabilistic neural network (PNN) for the damage classification. For the evaluation of the proposed method, numerical simulations of the damage classification for a tlme-varylng system are used, in which different classes of damage are modeled by the mass or stiffness reductions. It is demonstrated that the method can identify the damages in the course of operation and the change of parameters on the time-varying background of the system.展开更多

Introducing wave propagation effects including geometric spreading, transmission loss, attenuation into seismic wave propagation, multi-wave amplitude-preserved AVO forward modeling for horizontally layered media based on ray theory is proposed in this paper. We derived the multi-wave geometric spreading correction formulas for horizontally layered media in order to describe the geometric spreading effect of multi-wave propagation. Introducing the complex traveltime directly, we built the relationship between complex traveltime and quality factor without the help of complex velocity to describe the attenuation of viscoelastic media. Multi-wave transmission coefficients, obtained by solving the Zoeppritz equations directly, is used to describe the transmission loss. Numerical results show that the effects of geometric spreading, attenuation, and transmission loss on multi-wave amplitude varies with offset and multi-wave amplitude-preserved AVO forward modeling should consider the reconstructive effect of wave propagation on reflection amplitude.展开更多

However, questions arise as to how the relationship was theoretically derived, what are the assumptions and applicable conditions and how large the error will be. In this paper, the analytical solutions of gas concentration and fractional gas loss for the diffusion of gas in a spherical coal sample were given with detailed mathematical derivations based on the diffusion equation. The analytical solutions were approximated in case of small values of time and the error analyses associated with the approximation were also undertaken. The results indicate that the square root relationship of gas release is the first term of the approximation, and care must be taken in using the square root relationship as a significant error might be introduced with increase in the lost time and decrease in effective diameter of a spherical coal sample.展开更多

METHODS A total of 172 patients with SPL identified by endoscopic ultrasound were enrolled in the study to evaluate the efficacy of elastography and strain ratio in differentiating malignant from benign lesions. The semi quantitative score of elastography was represented by the strain ratio method. Two areas were selected, area(A) representing the region of interest and area(B) representing the normal area. Area(B) was then divided by area(A). Sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value(PPV), negative predictive value(NPV), and accuracy were calculated by comparing diagnoses made by elastography, strain ratio and final diagnoses.RESULTS SPL were shown to be benign in 49 patients and malignant in 123 patients. Elastography alone had a sensitivity of 99%, a specificity of 63%, and an accuracy of 88%, a PPV of 87% and an NPV of 96%. The best cut-off level of strain ratio to obtain the maximal area under the curve was 7.8 with a sensitivity of 92%, specificity of 77%, PPV of 91%, NPV of 80% and an accuracy of 88%. Another estimated cut off strain ratio level of 3.8 had a higher sensitivity of 99% and NPV of 96%, but with less specificity, PPV and accuracy 53%, 84% and 86%, respectively. Adding both elastography to strain ratio resulted in a sensitivity of 98%, specificity of 77%, PPV of 91%, NPV of 95% and accuracy of 92% for the diagnosis of SPL. CONCLUSION Combining elastography to strain ratio increases the accuracy of the differentiation of benign from malignant SPL.展开更多

Investigations into muscular imbalances in barefoot versus shod conditions and their relationship with injury severity have not been performed. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of wearing athletic shoes on muscular strength and its relationship to lower extremity injuries, specifically female basketball players due to the high incidence of ankle injuries in this population. Methods: During pre-season, 11 female collegiate basketball players underwent inversion and eversion muscle strength testing using an iso- kinetic dynamometer in both a barefoot and shod conditions. The difference between conditions was calculated for inversion and eversion peak torque, time to peak torque as well as eversion-to-inversion peak torque percent strength ratio for both conditions. Lower extremity injuries were documented and ranked in severity. The ranked difference between barefoot and shod conditions for peak torque and time to peak torque as well as percent strength ratio was correlated with injury ranking using a Spearman rho correlation (p) with an a level of 0.05. Results: The ranked differences in barefoot and shod for peak eversion and inversion torque at 120°/s were correlated with their injury ranking. Ranking of the athletes based on the severity of injuries that were sustained during the season was found to have a strong, positive relationship with the difference in peak eversion torque between barefoot and shod (p = 0.78; p = 0.02). Conclusion: It is possible that a large discrepancy between strength in barefoot and shod conditions can predispose an athlete to injury. Nar- rowing the difference in peak eversion torque between barefoot and shod could decrease propensity to injury. Future work should investigate the effect of restoration of muscular strength during barefoot and shod exercise on injury rates.展开更多

The influence of repeated use of corncob hydrolysate on concentrations of D-xylose and L-arabinose was investigated. The loss rates of D-xylose in the prepared D-xylose solutions both with and without corncob, and repeated using corncob hydrolysate under identical acidity condition were discussed. The result shows that D-XyIOSe concentration and L-arabinose concentration are all gradually increas- ing with the growing time of repeated use of corncob hydrolysate. After the fifth repetition, the concentrations of D-xylose and L-arabinose are 196.7 g. L-1 and 22.0 g.L-1, respectively. Substance inhibiting the degradation of D-xylose is generated during repeated use of corncob hydrolysate, and the production is further proved by the change of D-xylose concentration and the loss rate of D-xylose over heating time.展开更多
