From the water distribution spectrum deduced from relaxation time distribution in paste, it is suggested that the water fills in the capillary pores at initial period, and then diffuses to the mesopores and gel pores in hydration products with the hydration proceeding. The decrease of peak area in water distribution spectrum reflects the transformation from physically bound water to chemically bound water. In addition, based on the connection between relaxation time and pore size, the relative content changes of water in various states and constrained in different types of pores were also measured. The results demonstrate that it is influenced by the formation of pore system and the original water-to-cement ratio in the paste. Consequently, the relative content of capillary water is dropped to less than 2% in the paste with low w/c ratio of 0.3 when being hydrated for 1 d, while the contents are still 16% and 36% in the pastes with w/c ratios of 0.4 and 0.5, respectively.展开更多

Reasons have to do with the crucial role that vortices play in nature and industrial processes (sediment transport, mixing, radiation, noise, etc.). Despite the contributions, further work is needed in order to perform more analysis of the mathematical arguments used to explain this phenomenon. In this idea order, the paper presents some advances in mathematical analysis and experimental results. In the first section, we do a description of the fluid motion from a fractional view through a sequence of three steps: Darcy's law, Navier-Stokes equations and Reynolds equations. Next, a representation of the temporal change of kinetic energy is found, which allows the possibility of the two signs. We obtain a description of the process of vortex creation. A length that represents the transition between flow and vortex intensity is found; then a succession of lengths is established that allows scaling from micro to macro. In the second section, experimental results are present; we consider vortex creation and its detection upstream of a bed form similar to that found in rivers, installed in an open channel, equipped with a water circulation system. For vortex detection, a methodology based on the particle image velocimetry PIV technique is proposed. So, we fulfill two objectives: vortex identification and its passage frequencies behind the bed form installed in the channel. Such procedure allows a computer process time reduction in vortices identification task.展开更多

It changes with time. A sample of 60 houses in the Shagari Low Cost housing scheme in Kanra Namoda was studied in order to find out the characteristics of changes made by the users. Physical observations and questionnaires were used as the major instruments of data collection. The results show that 91% of occupants have made various changes to the original designs without the help of professional designers, and some of the changes have completely transformed the outlook of the houses in locational planning, materials and form. This implies that a post architectural design phase exists, suggesting that the design process can be divided into two phases; the initial design by the architect and the subsequent redesign by the user. The paper presents preliminary findings on the general characteristics of user redesign and concludes that a clear process can be established. The architectural design process can, therefore, be expanded to include the user redesign process in order to reflect the entire lifespan of the building.展开更多

The cumulative default loss built up over a period of time could wipe out the capital cushion of the banks. The aim of this paper is to help the banks to forecast the cumulative loss and its volatility. Defaulting amounts are random and defaults occur at random instants of time. A non Markovian time dependent random point process is used to model the cumulative loss. The expected loss and volatility are evaluated analytically. They are functions of probability of default, probability of loss amount, recovery rate and time. Probability of default being the important contributor is evaluated using Hidden Markov modeling. Numerical results obtained validate the model.展开更多

In theory, we can obtain the relationship between the change of the coda wave quality factor with time and the strong earthquake preparation process on the basis of the quality factor of a coda wave in a same ray path. However, in reality the coda wave quality factor measured by different seismic coda waves corresponds to different seismic wave ray paths. The change of the quality factor with time is related to non-elastic characteristics of the medium and the volume of scattering ellipsoid constrained by scattered wave phase fronts, besides the change of regional stress field. This paper discusses the relationship between quality factor, epicenter distance and different lapse time, and then discusses the relationship between quality factor and frequency. Furthermore the determination method of the coda wave quality factor is put forward. The improved determination method of the quality factor, which removes the influence of different earthquakes or propagation depth of scattered waves, may increase measurement precision, thus information pertaining to abnormal changes in quality factor and the relationship between the quality factor and earthquake preparation process can be acquired.展开更多

The private signM is involved in the updating process through Bayes' rule, and the neighbors' beliefs are embodied in through a weighted average form, where the weights are time-varying. The authors prove that agents eventually have correct forecasts for upcoming signals, and all the beliefs of agents reach a consensus. In addition, if there exists no state that is observationally equivalent to the true state from the point of view of all agents, the authors show that the consensus belief of the whole group eventually reflects the true state.展开更多
