Equally absent is any of the kind of medium-sized enterprises servic...Corsica is an island economy marked by the complete absence of any of the big holdings and multinationals that fuel and forge the worldwide economy. Equally absent is any of the kind of medium-sized enterprises servicing big business that have spearheaded local economies in other regions like Lombardy. Corsica's economic fabric is essentially made up of small and home businesses, farm smallholdings, artisans, and small-scale retail. Given how public-sector capital investment is already hypertrophied, a policy of investment in human capital could be a compelling new opportunity to trigger a dynamic regional development impetus. Leading the way, the University Institute of Technology Corsica, Corsica University's affiliated school of applied vocational technologies, is demonstrating its ability to act as a structurally engaged facilitator of island-wide spatial planning and regional branding. As a founding pillar in pioneering the emergence of a sandwich-course training system in higher education in Corsica, in 2010 the university made its entire training curriculum fully accessible to all through the signature of apprenticeship training or vocational qualifications agreements. This grass-roots programme is the outcome of a committed core strategy to develop partnerships with the island's key social and economic communities (businesses, community groups, and local authorities), and it plays a fundamental role in shaping and selling the most vital valued assets that typify a regional territory emerging into a structured destination-brand identity (simultaneous growth in the employability and quality of school-to-work transition shown by its human capital, mass shift in the degree of skill acquisition directly tied to the regional territory's own organic needs, fluidity of knowledge transfer fully controlled through sandwich placements, deep sustainable entrepreneurship education etc.). A new chaotic image encryption scheme based on permutation and substitution in the Fourier domain is presented.Fractional Fourier Transform(FRFT)is used before the encryption scheme to get a large degree of randomizat...A new chaotic image encryption scheme based on permutation and substitution in the Fourier domain is presented.Fractional Fourier Transform(FRFT)is used before the encryption scheme to get a large degree of randomization.The permutation is achieved by Baker map and the substitution by a key-related-to-plain-image algorithm based on the modified Logistic map.Modification of the Logistic map is developed to increase the space of the encryption key,and hence increase the security.The key of the encryption algorithm dependents on the plain image,and thus,the cipher image is sensitive to both the initial key and the plain image to resist known-plaintext and chosen plaintext attacks.The key space is large and hence the algorithm can effectively resist brute-force attacks.The proposed scheme is examined using different performance evaluation metrics and the results prove that the proposed scheme is highly secure,and it can effectively resist different attacks.展开更多

Sandwich training improves academic success rates and school-to-work transition prospects, making it both a pathway to excellence and a gateway into employment by keeping a clear tack in the face of social-economic headwinds---especially for young graduates. The factors involved are primarily education-driven (academic success, best-in-class graduates, and etc.), but where sandwich training really floats is in the job market, by co-potentializing both school-to-work transition and employability. The Corsica-region University-sponsored Placements & Apprenticeships Service (CFA UNIV), as regional leader in post-secondary sandwich placement (65% of sandwich-placement students in Corsica), is therefore structurally engaged as a facilitator of the island-wide economy, providing business and industry with a pipeline of core skill sets while readying them to rise to tomorrow's economic and human resources (HR) challenges. Hydrology and biodiversity in 28 natural and restored wetlands su...The authors assessed if wetlands can contribute to flood damage reduction in the Red River Basin, Minnesota, by providing reliable flood water storage. Hydrology and biodiversity in 28 natural and restored wetlands suggested uncontrolled natural wetlands provided the highest mean annual flood storage at 15 cm of runoff while single and 2-stage outlet controlled wetlands provided 3.0 and 8.1 cm of runoff control. Natural controlled wetlands, followed by 2-stage and single stage outlet controlled restorations provided 10.2, 6.6, and 2.2 cm of storage for early summer storm events. Two years of recorded water levels and a 20-year continuous meteorological record were used to model "temporary water level increases" in each wetland. Species diversity, hydrology, and watershed land use variables are inversely related where high quality and diverse wetlands had the lowest amplitude and frequency of water level increases, while low quality wetlands had the highest. Uncontrolled natural wetlands had the highest biological diversity and the lowest frequency and magnitude of temporary water levels increased. A significant biodiversity declines were measured where water level increases were greater than 2.7 meters. Strong multi-linear relationships between watershed land uses and watershed/wetland ratio explained wetland hydraulic performance and biodiversity relations (r2 ranging from 0.6-0.8). Non-native wetland plant diversity increased with greater water level dynamics.展开更多

The South China Sea where water depth is up to 5000 m is the most promising oil and gas exploration area in China in the future.The seismic data acquired in the South China Sea contain various types of multiples that ...The South China Sea where water depth is up to 5000 m is the most promising oil and gas exploration area in China in the future.The seismic data acquired in the South China Sea contain various types of multiples that need to be removed before imaging can be developed.However,compared with the conventional reflection migration,multiples carry more information of the underground structure that helps provide better subsurface imaging.This paper presents a method to modify the conventional reverse time migration so that multiple reflections can migrate to their correct locations in the subsurface.This approach replaces the numerical impulsive source with the recorded data including primaries and multiples on the surface,and replaces the recorded primary reflection data with multiples.In the reverse time migration process,multiples recorded on the surface are extrapolated backward in time to each depth level,while primaries and multiples recorded on the surface are extrapolated forward in time to the same depth levels.By matching the difference between the primary and multiple images using an objective function,this algorithm improves the primary resultant image.Synthetic tests on Sigsbee2 B show that the proposed method can obtain a greater range and better underground illumination.Images of deep water in the South China Sea are obtained using multiples and their matching with primaries.They demonstrate that multiples can make up for the reflection illumination and the migration of multiples is an important research direction in the future.展开更多

Solar evaporation based on plasmonic metal nanoparticles(MNPs)is emerging as a promising technology.However,the fine structure of MNPs is unstable,and both the high temperature generated by intensive light and corrosi...Solar evaporation based on plasmonic metal nanoparticles(MNPs)is emerging as a promising technology.However,the fine structure of MNPs is unstable,and both the high temperature generated by intensive light and corrosive ions in water could damage them.The performance will decline after recycling and long-time usage.To address these issues,we adopted a sponge-templating method for preparing sandwich-like nanoplates with the gold nanoparticles(Au NPs)confined in reduced graphene oxide(rGO)nanosheets.Due to the confinement effect,both the surface melting and ion diffusion were suppressed.The solar evaporator based on the sandwich-like nanoplates showed a high solar-vapor conversion efficiency of 85.2%under a high light intensity of 10 kW.After 30 times recycle of seawater desalination,the conversion efficiency scarcely decreased.These sandwich-like nanoplates with enhanced thermal and chemical stability of Au NPs are promising in the practical application of seawater desalination.展开更多
