A new composite structure based on aluminum foam sandwich and fiber metal laminate was proposed. A layer of glass fiber was provided at the interface between the metal panel and the aluminum foam core in this composit...A new composite structure based on aluminum foam sandwich and fiber metal laminate was proposed. A layer of glass fiber was provided at the interface between the metal panel and the aluminum foam core in this composite structure, using adhesive technology to bond the materials together by organic glue in the sequence of metal panel, glass fiber, aluminum foam core, glass fiber and metal panel. The experimental results show that the new composite structure has an improved comprehensive performance compared with the traditional aluminum foam sandwiches. The optimized parameters for the fabrication of the new aluminum foam composite structure with best bending strength were obtained. The epoxy resin and low porosity aluminum foams are preferred, the thickness of aluminum sheets should be at least 1.5 mm, and the type of glass fiber has little effect on the bending strength. The main failure modes of the new composite structures with two types of glues were discussed.展开更多

Using experience of many years teaching mechanics of mat...The basic problem in teaching mechanics of materials is that some subjects discussed in the reference books are not easy to understand for most of the students. Using experience of many years teaching mechanics of materials, we have been continuously trying to find easier methods to help the students get a better understanding of fundamental concepts. This effort and investigation has led to innovative and simple approaches to prove the equations much easier than the existing ones and also to clarify complicated concept. In this paper, we are offering our innovative proof for elastic flexure formulas as well as an interesting model for the moment sign convention in the cross section of a beam. In this method, considering a portion of a beam under pure bending and obtaining the stress distribution in the cross section and applying the balance of the considered portion, we prove the Elastic Flexure Formulas much easier than the existing methods. Emphasizing on deeper understanding, some notes and a new model are offered during this proof.展开更多

I maintain that be...I make an attempt in the paper to argue in favor of the person-centered view of good life, where becoming a good person involves seeking to qualitatively transform oneself into a worthy human being. I maintain that becoming fully a person and respecting others as persons are achievements that are not assured for all of us. Thus, for the purpose I prepare the ground for an account of good life that rests on valuational consciousness. I propose that one may ascribe valuational consciousness to a person who is a value-sensitive rational being striving to attain a kind of inner transparency. Evidently, to say that a person has valuational consciousness is to stress the values, which are built into personal consciousness. The life of a person, whether that of truth, courage, nobility, justice, kindness, is a life marked by ego transcending personal consciousness that reaches out to humanity at large. And such a repository of values enables a human being to attain the ideal of good life. The ideal of good life, I contend, consists of attaining the higher order posture of selflessness--a posture of inner transparency. It is to shake off the egocentric partiality that characterizes our usual attitudinal stance towards one another.展开更多

OBJECTIVE:To observe the effects of acupuncture on motility of jejunum and distal colon at different acupoints on normal Kunming mice.METHODS:The jejunal and colorectal motor activity of forty Kunming mice were record...OBJECTIVE:To observe the effects of acupuncture on motility of jejunum and distal colon at different acupoints on normal Kunming mice.METHODS:The jejunal and colorectal motor activity of forty Kunming mice were recorded by the intra-intestinal capsule.The capsules contained with distilled water were placed into the cavities of jejunum and distal colon.The changes of bowel were compared with the background activity recorded before any stimulation.The chosen acupoints were as follows:Zusanli(ST 36) on the lower legs,Tianshu(ST 25) on the mid-lower abdomen.RESULTS:Manual acupuncture(MA) at Zusanli(ST36) significantly promoted the motility of jejunum and distal colon(manifested as increased change rate of average amplitude and increased change rate of mean area under the contractile curve) of normal Kunming mice(P < 0.01).MA atTianshu(ST25) significantly inhibited the motility of jejunum(manifested as decreased change rate of average amplitude,decreased change rate of mean area under the contractile curve,and the reduced frequency) of normal Kunming mice(P < 0.01),while significantly increased the distal colonic motility(manifested as increased amplitude and increased mean area under the contractile curve) of normal Kunming mice(P < 0.01).CONCLUSION:MA at specific acupoints[Zusanli(ST 36),Tianshu(ST 25)]has different effects on the motility of jejunum and distal colon,which might involve the segmental innervations of the related nerve.展开更多

It was shown that an S-shaped transition curve, which is able to manage a broader scope about two circle radii than the Bezier curves, has no curvature extrema, while a C-shaped transition curve has a single curvature extremum. Regarding the two kinds of curves, specific algorithms were presented in detail, strict mathematical proofs were given, and the effectiveness of the method was shown by examples This method has the following three advantages： （1） the pattern is unified; （2） the parameter able to adjust the shape of the transition curve is available; （3） the transition curve is only a single segment, and the algorithm can be formulated as a low order equation to be solved for its positive root.
