In this paper, the trajectories of Mesoscale Convective Systems (MCSs) were automatically tracked over the Chinese Tibetan Plateau using Geostationary Meteorological Satellite (GMS) brightness temperature (Tbb) from June to August 1998, and the MCSs are classified according to their movement direction. Based on these, spatial data mining methods are used to study the relationships between MCSs trajectories and their environmental physical field values. Results indicate that at 400hPa level, the trajectories of MCSs moving across the 105°E boundary are less influenced by water vapor flux divergence, vertical wind velocity, reIative humidity and K index. In addition, if the gravity central longitude locations of MCSs are between 104°E and 105°E, then geopotential height and wind divergence are two main factors in movement causation. On the other hand, at 500hPa level, the trajectories of MCSs in a north-east direction are mainly influenced by K index and water vapor flux divergence when their central locations are less than 104°E. However, the MCSs moving in an east and south-east direction are influenced by a few correlation factors at this level.展开更多

It shows that the origin and termination times of the GW, as well as its location and intensity, have significant interarmual variability. The GW appeared earliest (latest) in 2004 (2008) and vanished ear- liest (latest) in 2006 (2001), with the shortest (longest) duration in 2008 (2001). Its center was most southward (northward) in 2007 (1995), while the minimum (maximum) amplitude and area occurred in 2003 and 2002 (1997 and 2007), respectively. The GW was weaker and disappeared earlier with its location tending to be in the southwest in 2003, while in 2005 it was stronger, van- ished later and tended to be in northeast. The abnormal years were often not the same among different characters of the GW, and were not all coincident with ENSO (El Nifio-Southern Oscillation) or IOD (Indian Ocean Dipole) events, indicating the very com- plex nature of GW variations. Mechanism investigations shows that the interannual variability of intraseasonal wind stress curl in GW region results in that of the GW. The generation of the GW is coincident with the arrival of Rossby waves at the Somali coast in spring; the intensity of the GW is also influenced by Rossby waves. The termination of the GW corresponds well to the second one of the top two peaks in the baroclinic energy conversion rate in GW region, and the intensity and the position of the GW are also closely related to the top two baroclinic energy conversion rates.展开更多

In 1980s, the contour-meliorative soil protection system was established on the selected fields in Ukraine. The objective of the current research was to determine the capabilities of satellite survey to identify the changes of soil cover that had occurred on these fields during the past 25 years. Soil erosion processes are very dynamic, therefore it is essential to use time-series of operative satellite images to track those changes. Rills on the fields, caused by water erosion, are clearly identified on high-resolution satellite data. Erosion causes the decrease of humus content, which affects soil reflection values. This in turn leads to a corresponding change of color shade on satellite images. The research allowed to determine correlation between remote sensing data and soil organic carbon content and to acquire a mathematical model which describes this correlation. The condition of the agrolandscape soils was assessed using the regression model, which helped to evaluate erosion risk for different areas of the test polygon. The visual interpretation of satellite imagery led to a conclusion about a damaging effect of erosion on protective forest belts and accordingly on fields' soil cover and crops. Visual analysis results were approved by field research. Photos taken during the field research indicate an unsatisfactory status of forest belts and a devastating effect of eroding water flows. These are the results of irresponsible land use and constant violation of methodical principles of the contour-meliorative system organization. The article concludes that the use of time-series of high-resolution satellite imagery allows monitoring the condition of soil protection agrolandscape, in particular the forest belts' status soil cover conditions and their change over time. The research results can be used as an informational basis for the soil protection agrolandscape monitoring system.展开更多

The result in the first 19 years of the nova WZ Sagittae cycle is global warming that is hemi-spherically dependent and is detectable in South America ice core data and Antarctica surface mass balance data. Planetary thermal data are correlated in the past by calculating the debris impact times from the super outbursts times of nova WZ Sagittae. The shape of the arctic ice cap is dependent on the 220 degree path of the debris and does not exist southward between the western extension and eastern termini of nova WZ Sagittae that define the Arctic heating path. Future global heating from nova WZ Sagittae will begin in 2020-2021. The increase of 6 to 8 magnitude unusual earthquakes in recent years is the results of nova WZ Sagittae and SN 1054 debris impact. Unusual occurrences in the biosphere indicate the starting time of impacting supernova debris streams. The Antarctic sea ice distribution in November of 2016 defines the termini of maximum particle concentration impact from supernova 1006 in the southern hemisphere. The killing heat in India of the northern hemisphere is associated with the western terminus of this supernova. Novas and supernovas times of impact correlate with plague outbreaks in the western USA marking the particles in the debris streams as the cause of the disease.展开更多

The first category uses time series of data to retrieve the variation of land surface for classification, which are usually used for coarser resolution data with high temporal frequency. The second category uses fine spatial resolution data to classify different land surface. With the launch of Chinese satellite constellation HJ-1in 2008, four 30 m spatial resolution CCDs with about 360 km coverage for each one onboard two satellites made a revisit period of two days, which brought a new type of data with both high spatial resolution and high temporal frequency. Therefore, by taking the spatiotemporal advantage of HJ-1/CCD data we propose a new method for finer resolution land cover mapping using the time series HJ-1/CCD data, which can greatly improve the land cover mapping accuracy. In our two study areas, the very high resolution remote sensing data within Google Earth are used to validate the land cover mapping results, which shows a very high mapping accuracy of 95.76% and 83.78% and a high Kappa coefficient of 0.9423 and 0.8165 in the Dahuofang area of Liaoning Province and the Heiquan area of Gansu Province respectively.展开更多

We have identified 765 HFA events with Cluster spacecraft data from 2003 to 2009. We study the plasma and magnetic field variations during typical HFAs. Then we study the average structure of HFAs using the superposed epoch method during a 200 s time interval, with the HFA onset time as the epoch time. The results show that HFAs can be classified into four classes based on variations of the dynamic pressure over time, namely "-+" (down-up), "+-" (up-down), "M" (up-down-up) and "W" (up-down-up-down-up), where the letters represent similar shapes with the variation trends of the dynamic pressure. Trends of other parameters are highly related to those of the dynamic pressure with obvious characteristics of the classification. Moreover, statistical results suggest that the number of HFA events varies in years. Compared with the speed of solar wind and sunspot number, the number of HFA events in each year has positive correlation with the former, while it has little relation with the latter. The result of this paper will provide data base for further studies on the mechanisms of the formation, the structural evolution and other relative questions of HFAs.展开更多
