METHODS: Twenty-five GISTs were examined by light microscopy and immunohistochemistry. c-kit, CD34, SMA, S-100 protein, COX-2, PCNA, Ki-67 and p53 were detected immunohistochemically and the relationship was evaluated among histopathologic parameters such as mitotic index (MI), tumor grade, tumor size, COX-2, PCNA, Ki-67 and p53. RESULTS: COX-2 protein expression was found in 19 of 25 (76%) of the tumors, and expression was noted in the cytoplasm of the tumor cells. p53 was significantly related to MI and tumor grade but no relationship was found between COX-2, proliferation markers and MI, tumor grade and tumor size. CONCLUSION: COX-2 is expressed in most GISTs and it may play an important role in the proliferation and progression of these tumors or a useful marker to identify GIST. Although immunohistochemical assessment of p53 can be used for distinguishing the risk groups of GISTs, tumor size and mitotic rate should be considered at the same time.展开更多

Some of the copper tailings can be recycled to recover valuable minerals. In this paper, a copper tailing was studied through the chemical analysis method, Xray diffraction and scanning electron microscope-energy dispersive spectrum. It turned out that chalcopyrite(Cu) and pyrite(S) were the main recoverable minerals in the tailing. In order to separate chalcopyrite from pyrite in low pulp pH, ammonium humate(AH) was singled out as the effective regulator. The depression mechanism of AH on the flotation of pyrite was proved by FTIR spectrum and XPS spectrum, demonstrating that there was a chemical adsorption between AH and pyrite. By Response Surface Methodology(RSM), the interaction between AH, pulp pH and iso-butyl ethionine(Z200) was discussed. It was illustrated that the optimal dosage of AH was 1678 g·t^(-1) involving both the recovery of Cu and S. The point prediction by RSM and the closed-circuit flotation displayed that the qualified Cu concentrate and S concentrate could be obtained from the copper tailing. The study indicated that AH was a promising pyrite depressor in the low pulp pH from copper tailings.展开更多

The self-assembled Sn-Co-C composites with nano-scaled microstructures were prepared via solution method and carbothermal technology. The morphology and physical structure were investigated with scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The as-prepared materials were assembled to half cell coin for the purpose of discussing the galvanostatic cycling, cyclic voltammetry and rate-capability performance. Results reveal that nanoscaled CoSn 2 alloys covered with Sn and C layer by layer are wrapped by cross-linked porous carbon network to form spherical microstructure. This distinguishing feature of Sn-Co-C composites provides a possible solution to the problems of Sn particle aggregation and poor electron transport, and has strong effect on improving electrochemical performance.展开更多

Alumina matrix composites reinforced with CNTs were fabricated by a catalytic chemical vapor deposition method. A1203 composites with different CNT concentrations were synthesized. The electrical characteristic of A1203/CNTs composites was examined. These composites were machined by the EDM process according to the various EDM parameters, and the characteristics of machining were analyzed using field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM). The electrical conductivity has a increasing tendency as the CNTs content is increased and has a critical point at 5% A1203 (volume fraction). In the machining accuracy, many tangles of CNT in A1203/CNTs composites cause violent spark. Thus, it causes the poor dimensional accuracy and circularity. The results show that conductivity of the materials and homogeneous distribution of CNTs in the matrix are important factors for micro-EDM of A1203/CNTs hybrid composites.展开更多

Sulfur in coal is one of the responsibilities of these negative effects. Coal includes two types of sulfur: organic and inorganic. While inorganic sulfur can be completely removed with physical desulfurization methods, organic sulfur can be removed only by chemical desulfurization methods. But chemical methods are not only expensive but also difficult processes. Firstly in desulfurization, types of the sulfur content in coal should be well characterized. High sulfur Gediz-Turkey coal has been chosen to this study. This coal basin is located in the centre of the Turkey. In this study, characterization and desulfurization possibilities of high sulfur Gediz coal were investigated. For this purpose, several physical and chemical characterization methods such as proximate and ultimate coal analysis (ash, calorific value, volatile matter, moisture and sulfur analysis), mineralogical and petrographic analysis, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope were used. Results of these analysis are shown that Gediz coals include 3.15% pyritic sulfur and 2.89% organic sulfur. Removing pyritic sulfur from Gediz-Turkey coal with physical methods such as gravity and sink-float separation is not possible because pyrite particle has 1-2 micron liberation size in coal.展开更多

These were the club, baffle and terminal zone of the oviducal gland, posterior portion of the uterus and in the cervix. This fact allowed for consideration not only its storage but its interaction with the female reproductive tract epithelia as well. SEM (microscopic observation studies) detected loose and sole spermatozoa in the club and baffle zones in a pregnant female. On the other hand, histochemical techniques showed sperm storage tubules of the terminal zone, which contain bundles of sperm, do not stain AB (alcian blue) or PAS (periodic acid schiff). Disintegration of some of the male gametes was observed in the posterior part of the uterus with TEM (transmission electron microscopy) studies which would indicate a first uterine sperm selection. The uterine epithelial cells involved in this process showed an important level of secretion vacuoles suggesting an interaction with sperm cells. Sperm in the cervix was found without the matrix that constitutes the spermatozeugmata formed in the male tract. Some heads of the sperm were uncurled while they were interacting with the cervical cells.展开更多

In this study magnetite (Fe304) superparamagnetic nanoparticles with a size range about 20 nm have been successfully synthesized using chemical co-precipitation method from the solution of ferrous/ferric mixed salt-solution in alkaline media in oxygen-free environment. The sol-gel method has been chose to encapsulate magnetic nanoparticles into silica matrix. The phase structures, morphologies, surface area, functional classes and magnetic properties have been characterized by X-ray diffraction, SEM and AFM, BET, FT-IR and VSM. The results showed that the resultant films, consisting of encapsulated magnetite have crack free and smooth surface with a roughness value 1.5 rim.展开更多

The samples were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV-vis absorption spectra (UV-vis), Fourier transform infrared spectra (FT-IR) and circular dichroism (CD). FT-IR data were used to envis- age the binding of PbS particles with oxygen atoms of carbonyl groups of gelatin molecule. The possible integration mechanism between gelatin and PbS was discussed in detail. The effect of Pb2+ and PbS on the conformations of gelatin has also been analyzed by means of UV-vis, CD and FT-IR spectra, resulting in less c^-helix content and more open structures ([3-sheet, r-turn, or expanded). A new formula to calculate the association constant was proposed according to the relationship between the absorbance of gelatin-PbS BNCs and the free concentration of PbS, and apparent association constants K (298/303/308 K: 3.11/2.00/1.60 × 10^6 tool/L) at three different temperatures were calculated based on this formula. Thermodynamic parameters such as AG^θ, △Hθ and △S^θ were also determined. The results of the thermodynamic investigations indicated that the reaction was spontaneous (AG^θ 〈 0), and enthalpy-driven (△H^8 〈 0).展开更多
