On-line estimation of unmeasurable biological variables is important in fermentation processes, directly influencing the optimal control performance of the fermentation system as well as the quality and yield of the targeted product. In this study,a novel strategy for state estimation of fed-batch fermentation process is proposed.By combining a simple and reliable mechanistic dynamic model with the sample-based regressive measurement model,a state space model is developed. An improved algorithm, swarm energy conservation particle swarm optimization(SECPSO) ,is presented for the parameter identification in the mechanistic model, and the support vector machines(SVM) method is adopted to establish the nonlinear measurement model. The unscented Kalman filter(UKF) is designed for the state space model to reduce the disturbances of the noises in the fermentation process. The proposed on-line estimation method is demonstrated by the simulation experiments of a penicillin fed-batch fermentation process. 展开更多

According to the Wide Area Network model, we formulate Internet flow control as a constrained convex programming problem, where the objective is to maximize the total utility of all sources over their transmission rates. Based on this formulation, flow control can be converted to a normal unconstrained optimization problem through the barrier function method, so that it can be solved by means of a gradient projection algorithm with properly rate iterations. We prove that the algorithm converges to the global optimal point, which is also a stable proportional fair rate allocation point, provided that the step size is properly chosen. The main difficulty facing the realization of iteration algorithm is the distributed computation of congestion measure. Fortunately, Explicit Congestion Notification (ECN) is likely to be used to improve the performance of TCP in the near future. By using ECN, it is possible to realize the iteration algorithm in IP networks. Our algorithm is divided into two parts, algorithms in the router and in the source. The router marks the ECN bit with a probability that varies as its buffer occupancy varies, so that the congestion measure of links can be communicated to the source when the marked ECN bits are reflected back from its destination. Source rates are then updated by all sessions according to the received congestion measure. The main advantage of our scheme is its fast convergence ability and robustness; it can also provide the network with zero packet loss by properly choosing the queue threshold and provide differentiated service to users by applying different utility functions. 展开更多

The stability of the Newton-like algorithm in optimization flow control is considered in this paper. This algorithm is proved to be globally stable under a general network topology by means of Lyapunov stability theory, without considering the round trip time of each source. While the stability of this algorithm with considering the round trip time is analyzed as well. The analysis shows that the algorithm with only one bottleneck link accessed by several sources is also globally stable, and all trajectories described by this algorithm ultimately converge to the equilibrium point. 展开更多

The operation variables, including feed rate of ore slurry, caustic solution and live steams in the double-stream alumina digestion process, determine the product quality, process costs and the environment pollution.Previously, they were set by the technical workers according to the offline analysis results and an empirical formula, which leads to unstable process indices and high consumption frequently. So,a multi-objective optimization model is built to maintain the balance between resource consumptions and process indices by taking technical indices and energy efficiency as objectives, where the key technical indices are predicted based on the digestion kinetics of diaspore.A multi-objective state transition algorithm(MOSTA)is improved to solve the problem,in which a self-adaptive strategy is applied to dynamically adjust the operator factors of the MOSTA and dynamic infeasible threshold is used to handle constraints to enhance searching efficiency and ability of the algorithm. Then a rule based strategy is designed to make the final decision from the Pareto frontiers. The method is integrated into an optimal control system for the industrial digestion process and tested in the actual production. Results show that the proposed method can achieve the technical target while reducing the energy consumption. 展开更多

In this paper, we have developed a compartment of epidemic model with vaccination. We have divided the total population into five classes, namely susceptible, exposed, infective, infective in treatment and recovered class. We have discussed about basic properties of the system and found the basic reproduction number (R0) of the system. The stability analysis of the model shows that the system is locally as well as globally asymptotically stable at disease-free equilibrium E0 when R0 〈1. When R0 〉1 endemic equilibrium E1 exists and the system becomes locally asymptotically stable at E1 under some conditions. We have also discussed the epidemic model with two controls, vaccination control and treatment control. An objective functional is considered which is based on a combination of minimizing the number of exposed and infective individuals and the cost of the vaccines and drugs dose. Then an optimal control pair is obtained which minimizes the objective functional. Our numerical findings are illustrated through computer simulations using MATLAB. Epidemiological implications of our analytical findings are addressed critically. 展开更多

Avian influenza, caused by influenza A viruses, has received worldwide attention over recent years. In this study, we formulate a mathematical model for avian influenza that includes human human transmission and incorporates the effects of infection latency and treatments. We investigate the essential dynamics of the model through an equilibrium analysis. Meanwhile, we explore effective treatment strategies to control avian influenza outbreaks using optimal control theory. Our results show that strategically deployed medical treatments can significantly reduce the numbers of exposed and infection persons. 展开更多

Aedes aegypti is known as the responsible vector in transmitting dengue flavivirus. Unavailability of medication to cure the transmission in human blood becomes a global health issue in recent decades. World epidemiologists are encouraged to focus on investigation toward an effective and inexpensive way to prevent dengue transmission, i.e. mosquito control. In this paper, we present a model depicting the dynamics of mosquito population based on indoor-outdoor life cycle classification. The basic mosquito offspring number is obtained and analysis of equilibria is shown. We bring along a discussion on application of optimal control model which engineers two simultaneous schemes. The first scheme is done by disseminating chemical like Temephos in spots where eggs and larvae develop, meanwhile the second scheme is done by conducting fumigation through areas where adult mosquitoes prevalently nest, indoor as well as outdoor. A version of gradient-based method is presented to set down a workflow in minimizing the objective functional with respect to control variable. Numerical results from analysis of the basic mosquito offspring number with constant control and from optimal control suggest that one has to enhance the usage of fumigation rather than Temephos. It is also suggested that applying both control schemes simultaneously gives the most significant reduction to the population. 展开更多
