The actual burst pressure is calculated using the arc-length and restart analysis in finite element analysis (FEA). A penalty function in the fitness function is proposed to deal with the constrained problem. The effects of the population size and the number of generations in the GA on the weight and burst pressure of the vessel are explored. The optimization results using the proposed GA are also compared with those using the simple GA and the conventional Monte Carlo method.展开更多
V-type ultrasonic linear motor fabricated using a simple punching technique was proposed to utilize as an actuator of small precision machine.The stator of the motor is composed of a thin elastic body and four ceramic...V-type ultrasonic linear motor fabricated using a simple punching technique was proposed to utilize as an actuator of small precision machine.The stator of the motor is composed of a thin elastic body and four ceramics attached to the upper and bottom areas of the body.The ceramics have each direction of polarization.When two harmonic voltages with a 90° phase difference are applied to the ceramics,symmetric and anti-symmetric displacements will generate at the tip to produce an elliptical motion.A finite element analysis(ATILA) was conducted to simulate the motion pattern for the contact tip of the stator.To develop a model that generates the maximum displacement at contact tip,the FEM program was used for various lengths.In addition,an optimal model was chosen by considering the magnitude and shape of the displacement according to changes in frequency.The maximum elliptical displacement is shown by W2L11 model,which has a ratio of ceramic width to length of 1:5.5.However,the displacement of the contact tip is reduced by the bucking phenomenon if the ratio is larger than 1:6.展开更多

Two frame-invariant functions ...This paper addresses the problem of accuracy characterization and measurement point planning for 3-D workpiece localization in the presence of part surface errors and measurement errors. Two frame-invariant functions of the infinitesimal rigid body displacement are defined to quantify the localization accuracy required by manufacturing processes. Then, two kinds of frame-invariant indices are derived to characterize the sensitivities of the accuracy measures to the sampling errors at the measurement points. With a dense set of discrete points on the workpiece datum surfaces pre-defined as candidates for measurement, planning of probing points for accurate recovery of part location is modeled as a combinatorial problem focusing on minimizing the accuracy sensitivity index. Based on an interchange rule, a greedy algorithm is developed to efficiently find a near-optimal solution. It is also shown that if the number of the measurement points is sufficiently large, there is no need to optimize their positions. Example confirms the validity of the presented indices and algorithm. Complicated mechanical products normally consist of multi-parameter mechanisms.The couplings between two tmechanisms are either strong or weak.The traditional optimal design methods cannot meet the requirements of opt...Complicated mechanical products normally consist of multi-parameter mechanisms.The couplings between two tmechanisms are either strong or weak.The traditional optimal design methods cannot meet the requirements of optimal structural design of the complicated multi-parameter mechanical products.On the basis of analyzing the optimal design methods and the data mining principles,an improved iterative dichotomizer 3(ID3) algorithm is hereby put forth to bring out an optimal design information model integrated with the data mining technology as well as an optimal structural design system of complicated mechanical products based on the data mining principles.The system is demonstrated by the optimal structural design of the mainframe of the full face rock tunnel boring machine(TBM).An example shows that the data mining technology has fully tackled the issues of the optimal structural design of complicated mechanical products.展开更多
