To solve this problem, a fast multilevel thresholding algorithm considering both the threshold value and the classification number is proposed based on the maximum entropy, and the self-adaptive criterion of the classification number is given. To estimate the spreading sequence of the direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) signal, a fast algorithm based on maximum likelihood function is proposed, and the theoretical derivation of the algorithm is provided. By simplifying the objective function of maximum likelihood estimation, the algorithm can realize sequence synchronization and sequence estimation via adaptive iteration and sliding window. Since it avoids the correlation matrix computation, the algorithm significantly reduces the storage requirement and the computation complexity. Simulations show that it is a fast convergent algorithm, and can perform well in low signal to noise ratio (SNR). 展开更多

Estimation of Design Sea Ice Thickness with Maximum Entropy Distribution by Particle Swarm Optimization Method 被引量:1

The maximum entropy distribution, which consists of various recognized theoretical distributions, is a better curve to estimate the design thickness of sea ice. Method of moment and empirical curve fitting method are common-used parameter estimation methods for maximum entropy distribution. In this study, we propose to use the particle swarm optimization method as a new parameter estimation method for the maximum entropy distribution, which has the advantage to avoid deviation introduced by simplifications made in other methods. We conducted a case study to fit the hindcasted thickness of the sea ice in the Liaodong Bay of Bohai Sea using these three parameter-estimation methods for the maximum entropy distribution. All methods implemented in this study pass the K-S tests at 0.05 significant level. In terms of the average sum of deviation squares, the empirical curve fitting method provides the best fit for the original data, while the method of moment provides the worst. Among all three methods, the particle swarm optimization method predicts the largest thickness of the sea ice for a same return period. As a result, we recommend using the particle swarm optimization method for the maximum entropy distribution for offshore structures mainly influenced by the sea ice in winter, but using the empirical curve fitting method to reduce the cost in the design of temporary and economic buildings. 展开更多

Application of Wavelet Decomposition to Removing Barometric and Tidal Response in Borehole Water Level

Wavelet decomposition is used to analyze barometric fluctuation and earth tidal response in borehole water level changes. We apply wavelet analysis method to the decomposition of barometric fluctuation and earth tidal response into several temporal series in different frequency ranges. Barometric and tidal coefficients in different frequency ranges are computed with least squares method to remove barometric and tidal response. Comparing this method with general linear regression analysis method, we find wavelet analysis method can efficiently remove barometric and earth tidal response in borehole water level. Wavelet analysis method is based on wave theory and vibration theories. It not only considers the frequency characteristic of the observed data but also the temporal characteristic, and it can get barometric and tidal coefficients in different frequency ranges. Chaos Existence in Surface Discharge of Tracking Test

Tracking tests for different polymer materials were carried out to investigate the chaotic behavior of surface discharge. The discharge sequences measured during the discharge process were analyzed for finding the evidence of chaos existence. Four kinds of nonlinear analysis methods were adopted: estimating the largest Lyapunov exponent, calculating the fractal dimension with increasing the embedding dimension, drawing the recurrence plots, and plotting the Poincare maps. It is found that the largest Lyapunov exponent of the discharge is positive, and the plot of fractal dimension, as a function of embedding dimension, will saturate at a value. The recur- rence plots show the chaotic frame-work patterns, and the Poincar6 maps also have the chaotic characteristics. The results indicate that the chaotic behavior does exist in the discharge currents of the tracking test. 展开更多
