Based on the obtained lower bounds on mean squared channel estimation errors, the limits on bit error rate (BER) for maximal ratio combining (MRC) with Gaussian distributed weighting errors on independent and identically distributed (i. i. d) fading channels are presented. Numerical results show that the BER performances of ideal MRC are the lower bounds on the BER performances of non-ideal MRC and deteriorate as the maximum Doppler frequency increases or the SNR of channel estimate decreases.展开更多

The schem...To improve the reliable performance of information transmission in cooperative relay networks, the scheme of the max-rate spatial channel pairing (SCP) based on maximum ratio combining (MRC) is proposed. The scheme includes three steps: channel phase cancellation, MRC, and SCP. Eventually, the solution of the scheme is modeled as convex optimization. The objective function of the optimization problem is to maximize the transmission rate and the optimization variable is the strategy of pairing between the uplink spatial sub-channels of each user and the corresponding downlink spatial ones. The theorem of the arrangement inequalities is adopted to obtain the approximate closed-form solution of the optimal pairing for this convex optimization. Simulation results demonstrate that compared to the existing distributed space-time block coding and coherent combined schemes without SCP, the proposed max-rate SCP plus MRC algorithm achieves appreciable improvements in symbol error rate in medium and high signal-to-noise ratio regimes. The achievable performance gain is due to the use of maxrate SCP.展开更多

The system performances with equal g...On the basis of analyzing the principle of multicarrier code division multiple access (MC-CDMA), an optimized complex wavelet packet based MC-CDMA system (CWP-MC-CDMA) is proposed. The system performances with equal gain combining (EGC) technique and maximum ratio combining (MRC) technique in Nakagami-m fading channels are investigated, respectively; and the corresponding bit error rate (BER) expression is derived. The system can overcome the decrease of spectrum efficiency of discrete Fourier transform (DFT) based conventional MC-CDMA (DFT-MC-CDMA) due to inserting a cyclic prefix (CP). Theoretical analysis and simulation results show that the CWP-MC-CDMA system outperforms DFT-MC-CDMA as well as the real wavelet packet based MC-CDMA (RWP-MC-CDMA) system, and has superior ability to combat multi-path fading and multi-access interference (MAI). Moreover, the BER performance of the proposed system is also superior to that of the conventional MC-CDMA with CP.展开更多

According...This paper presents a new Transmitted Reference (TR) Ultra-WideBand (UWB) receiver based on Spatial Diversity (SD), which employs Multi-Antenna Technology (MAT) to improve the performance of TR-UWB receiver. According to the amplitude of correlator output of every antenna branch, this paper analyzed the performances of the proposed TR-UWB receiver employing three different kinds of combination strategies, i.e., Maximum Ratio Combination (MRC), Equal Gain Combination (EGC), and Selective Combination (SC), which are different from conventional ones, and theoretically proved that the performance of EGC is better than MRC. Simulation results verify that when EGC is adopted and BER=10-3, increasing three antennas provides Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) gain of about 3 dB in CM4 channel and SNR gain of about 2 dB in CM2 channel.展开更多

In a single-input multiple- out...This paper investigates the secrecy performance of maximal ratio combining (MRC) and selection combining (SC) with imperfect channel state information (CSI) in the physical layer. In a single-input multiple- output (SIMO) wiretap channel, a source transmits confidential messages to the destination equipped with M antennas using the MRC/SC scheme to process the received multiple signals. An eavesdropper equipped with N antennas also adopts the MRC/SC scheme to promote successful eavesdropping. We derive the exact and asymptotic closed-form expressions for the ergodic secrecy capacity (ESC) in two cases: (1) MRC with weighting errors, and (2) SC with outdated CSI. Moreover, two important indicators, namely high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) slope and high SNR power offset, which govern ESC at the high SNR region, are derived. Finally, simulations are conducted to validate the accuracy of our proposed analytical models. Results indicate that ESC rises with the increase of the number of antennas and the received SNR at the destination, and fades with the increase of those at the eavesdropper. Another finding is that the high SNR slope is constant, while the high SNR power offset is correlated with the number of antennas at both the destination and the eavesdropper.展开更多
