Flexible-die forming process with solid granule medium on sheet metal 被引量:13

Certain non-metallic granules (NMG) were selected as the research object. It was proposed to conduct the volume compression experiments as well as those on the NMG physical properties at high stress levels. Then, not only the volume compression ratio curve but also the extended Drucker-Prager linear model were obtained. In addition, through the friction strength tests, parameters of the Mohr-Coulomb model were gained, which proved in basic agreement with those of the extended Drucker-Prager linear model. Additionally, curves of the friction coefficients between the NMG and the sheet metal trader different pressures were also obtained. Based on the material performance experiments, numerical analysis in respect of flexible-die forming process with solid granule medium (SGM) was conducted. The die and device for experiments of solid granule medium forming (SGMF) on sheet metal were designed and manufactured. Typical parabolic parts were successfully trial-produced. The tests and simulation results show that the sheet formability is significantly improved for the extraordinary friction performance during interaction between the SGM and the sheet metal surface. The process control and die structure are simple, and the shaped work-pieces enjoy many advantages, such as satisfactory surface quality and favorable die fitability, which offers a brand-new method and means for processing and preparation of sheet metals. 展开更多

The theory and features of the dynamic explicit finite element methods are introduced and the available various commercial finite element method codes used for sheet metal forming simulation in the world are discussed,and the civil and international status quo of automobile panel simulation as well. The front door outer panel of one certain new automobile is regarded as one example that the dynamic explicit FEM code Dynaform is used for the simulation of the front door outer panel forming process. The granule medium of discreteness is supposed to be continuous(Drucker-Prager model) in the existing finite element simulation analysis on the hot granule medium pressure forming(HGMF) process, so the granule medium may produce tensile stress in the process of pressure-transferring and flowing, which does not coincide with the reality. The analysis method, discrete element and finite element(DE-FE) coupling simulation, is proposed to solve the problem. The material parameters of simulation model are obtained by the pressure-transfer performance test of granule medium and the hot uniaxial tensile test of sheet metal. The DE-FE coupling simulation platform is established by adopting Visual Basic language. The features in the process that AA7075-T6 conical parts are formed by the HGMF process are analyzed and verified by the process test. The studies show that the results of DE-FE coupling simulation coincide well with the test results, which provides a new analysis method to solve the mechanics problem in the coupling of discrete and continuum. 展开更多

Ordered mesoporous TiO2 (OMPT) was prepared by an evaporation induced self-assembly technique using liquid crystal as template. The key factors affecting the methylene blue (MB) oxidation efficiency were investigated, including the initial concentration of MB, pH value and catalyst concentration. The results show that the obtained OMPT has high thermal stability and shows a 2D hexagonal mesostructure with the small particle size and high surface area, which lead to higher degradation efficiency than commercial P25 or nanoparticle TiO2 (NPT) fabricated by sol-gel process. The optimal conditions are 5 mg/L MB, pH 6 and 1.5 g/L OMPT for the fastest rate of MB degradation. Total organic carbon (TOC) analysis indicates complete mineralization of MB in 240 min by OMPT, with rate constant higher than NPT or P25. 展开更多

A numerical method for coupled deformation between sheet metal and flexible-die was proposed. Based on the updated Lagrangian (UL) formulation, the elastoplastic deformation of sheet metal was analyzed with finite element method (FEM) and the bulk deformation of flexible-die was analyzed with element-free Galerkin method (EFGM). The frictional contact between sheet metal and flexible-die was treated by the penalty function method. The sheet elastic flexible-die bulging process was analyzed with the FEM-EFGM program for coupled deformation between sheet metal and bulk flexible-die, called CDSB-FEM-EFGM for short. Compared with finite element code DEFORM-2D and experiment results, the CDSB-FEM-EFGM program is feasible. This method provides a suitable numerical method to analyze sheet flexible-die forming. 展开更多

A rectangular finite element for laminated plate with bonded and/or embedded piezoelectric sensors and actuators is developed based on the variational principle and the first order shear deformation theory. The element has four-node, 20-degrees-of-freedom with one potential degree of freedom for each piezoelectric layer to represent the piezoelectric behavior. The higher order derivation of deflection is obtained by using the normal rotation expressions to take the effects of transverse shear deformation into considerations. The finite element can accurately simulate the deformation of both thin and moderately thick plates. A Fortran program is written and a number of benchmark tests are exercised to verify its effectiveness. Results are compared well with the existing data. The unbalanced composite with piezoelectric layers is then analyzed by using the model. Results show that the changes of the ratio between the thickness of positive angle layers and the negative angle layers have an effect on the deformation of the structure under the same electric loading. 展开更多

Flange height and lip accuracy are generally restricted by the formability of sheet metals in the conventional hole-flanging operation. A new hole-flanging process, named upsetting-flanging process, was proposed to obtain a more substantial flange from thick plate. The finite element method (FEM) with DEFORM was utilized to simulate the novel upsetting-flanging process and the influence of geometric parameters on the flange height was studied in details. A series of flanging experiments with A1050P-O were carried out to validate the FEM results, and the variations of Vicker hardness in the plate section were discussed. The results showed that the newly upsetting-flanging process revealed higher flange height and better lip accuracy than the conventional hole-flanging process, and the results between FEM simulations and experiments showed good agreement. Besides, the hardness of the plate around the flange part increases due to the work hardening after the upsetting-flanging process, which reveals better superiority in strength for the subsequent machining or assembling processes. 展开更多

Non-Darcian radial flow toward a finite-diameter, fully penetrating well in a confined aquifer was analyzed on the basis of the Izbash equation with consideration of the wellbore storage effect. We derived semi-analytical solutions of drawdown by using the Boltzmann transform, and obtained approximate analytical solutions of the drawdown at early and late times. MATLAB programs were developed to facilitate computation of the semi-analytical solutions. The turbulence factor v which was directly related to the pumping rate appeared to have negligible influence upon the wellbore well function at early times, but imposed significant influence at intermediate and late times. However, the turbulence factor v imposed non-negligible influence upon the aquifer well function during the entire pumping period, provided that the observation point was not sufficiently close to the wellbore. Sensitivity analysis indicated that the power index n in the Izbash equation had less influence on the type curves at the face of the pumping wellbore, but had much greater influence upon the well function in the aquifer. As the n values increased, the drawdown in the aquifer decreased at early times and increased at late times. The Boltzmann transformation could only be used in an approximate sense for radial non-Darcian flow problems. This approximation would provide accurate solutions at early times, and introduce small but consistent discrepancies at intermediate and late times for the wellbore well function. 展开更多

Seed‐assisted low alkalinity gel system was developed to explore the organic‐free synthesis of MORzeolite.MOR nanoassemblies with Si/Al ratio(SAR)up to 9.4 and high solid yield(84–94%)weresuccessfully obtained under controlled low alkalinity conditions.Characterization results demonstratethat the acid strength increases in parallel with the SAR,while the total acid amount and theproton distribution in the main channels and the side pockets are similar for the samples.The protondistribution in the H‐MOR is not straightforwardly related to the Na+distribution in theas‐synthesized MOR,implying the transfer of the protons among the oxygen sites of framework Tatom.Relative to low‐silica samples I‐5.3 and I‐7.4,sample I‐9.4 displays the best mass transferperformance and accessibility of the acid sites by pyridine due to its relatively low Al density andmild dealumination degree.Correspondingly,sample I‐9.4(pyridine‐modified catalyst)shows thebest activity with ca.100%selectivity of methyl acetate(MAc)in the DME carbonylation reaction.The high steady MAc yield(6.8 mmol/g/h)over sample I‐9.4 suggests the promising application ofMOR nanoassemblies synthesized by this economical organic‐free strategy. 展开更多

The analytical model for springback in arc bending of sheet metal can serve as an excellent design support.The amount of springback is considerably influenced by the geometrical and the material parameters associated with the sheet metal.In addition,the applied load during the bending also has a significant influence.Although a number of numerical techniques have been used for this purpose,only few analytical models that can provide insight into the phenomenon are available.A phenomenological model for predicting the springback in arc bending was proposed based on strain as well as deformation energy based approaches.The results of the analytical model were compared with the published experimental as well as FE results of the authors,and the agreement was found to be satisfactory. 展开更多

In this contribution,we report the cooperative structure-directing effect of choline hydroxide and aluminosilicate*BEA zeolite in the synthesis of aluminogermanosilicate IWR zeolites for the first time.*BEA zeolites,at variance with any other aluminosilicate zeolites,can serve as heterogeneous seeds for the growth of IWR zeolites and play a cooperative structure-directing role.The crystallization process was investigated using multiple techniques to characterize a series of solid products obtained with various crystallization times.The experiments clearly showed the dissolution of the*BEA zeolite and of an intermediate CDO-type structure.A plausible mechanism for the novel cooperative synthesis has been proposed.The crystallization of the IWR zeolite involves several steps,among which the crucial one is believed to be the reassembly of the building units produced from the decomposition of*BEA zeolite seeds,induced by choline molecules.Having similar structure and common building units(four-,five-,and six-membered rings)with the IWR zeolite,the*BEA zeolite is capable of promoting the reassembly of the building units and can thus play a cooperative structure-directing role.By highlighting the cooperative structure-directing effect of organic molecules and heterogeneous seeds,this study opens up new perspectives for the synthesis of target zeolites that are difficult to prepare by traditional methods.This new synthetic route is also expected to shed light on the discovery of novel zeolites. 展开更多

Deformation behavior of slab at the straightening stage during continuous casting was simulated by the explicit dynamic finite element method,and the stress distribution along the width direction of the slab and its change regularity at slab center during continuous casting were obtained.The influence of distribution and change of stress on the propagation of longitudinal cracks on slab surface was discussed.The results show that the tensional stress appears on slab surface at the inner arc side and the compressive stress appears on slab surface at the outer arc side at stages 6-8 in straightening zone during continuous casting.Longitudinal cracks generally appear on slab top surface and do not appear on slab bottom surface,which are also observed in industry. 展开更多

Flat spiral coils ... Electromagnetic forming (EMF) is a high velocity forming process that uses impulse magnetic force. Coil is an important component of EMF system which needs to be designed depending on application. Flat spiral coils are generally used for electromagnetic forming of sheet metals. However, with this type of coil the central portion of the workpiece experiences marginal magnetic force. This leads to in-sufficient deformation at this portion and other problems like air entrapment. In this study, a conceptual design of flat coil was proposed for better distribution of magnetic forces over the workpiece. Comparative analysis of distribution of magnetic force, magnetic field and current density using the proposed and the existing coil designs were carried out using FEM. The result indicates that the proposed coil design produces comparatively better magnetic force distribution over the workpiece. Calculation of self-inductance of such coils was also carried out and was compared with FE simulation. 展开更多

A method is developed to predict the lateral load-carrying capacity of composite shear walls with double steel plates and filled concrete with binding bars(SCBs). Nonlinear finite element models of SCBs were established by using the finite element tool, Abaqus. Tie constraints were used to connect the binding bars and the steel plates. Surface-to-surface contact provided by the Abaqus was used to simulate the interaction between the steel plate and the core concrete. The established models could predict the lateral load-carrying capacity of SCBs with a reasonable degree of accuracy. A calculation method was developed by superposition principle to predict the lateral load-carrying capacity of SCBs for the engineering application. The concrete confined by steel plates and binding bars is under multi-axial compression; therefore, its shear strength was calculated by using the Guo-Wang concrete failure criterion. The shear strength of the steel plates of SCBs was calculated by using the von Mises yielding criterion without considering buckling. Results of the developed method are in good agreement with the testing and finite element results. 展开更多

Given the increasing use of glass mat-reinforced thermoplastic(GMT)composites,the formability of GMT sheets is currently a topic of research.A new sheet forming process for solidified GMT was developed.In this process,a GMT sheet was sandwiched by dummy metallic sheets during deep drawing.The dummy metallic sheets acted as protective materials and media for heating the GMT sheet.In this study,tensile tests of GMT specimens were carried out under different temperature conditions.The effect of temperature on the tensile deformation was analyzed.The effect of temperature on the deep drawing process of GMT sheets with dummy sheets was further investigated.Finite element method(FEM)was conducted to simulate the deep drawing process.In the drawing force rising stage,the law of drawing force with the depth of the drawing was analyzed using FEM and experiments. 展开更多
