According to some observed dama ge phenomena in the smart structure systems, the issues related to the damage and failures of smart structures are addressed in this paper. A few possible damage patterns and the definition of the failure of the smart structures are given. It is pointed out that more attentions should be paid to the functional failures o f smart structures. The effects on the control the static deformation due to par tial debonding of PZT actuators are analyzed by the finite element method. Preli minary numerical results show that partial debonding of PZT actuators may have a p preciate reduction on their actuating ability thus reducing the control ability and accuracy of the smart structures. 展开更多

A 3-D FEA (finite element analysis) transient and steady-state design proposal for high-speed with Nd-Fe-Br (reversible) magnets in aerospace application will be examined under design considerations of n = 12,000 rpm, short-duty, sinusoidal drive, low cogging, high efficiency at peak torque, and etc. for an ARWM (aerospace retraction wheel motor). In construction, the PMs (permanent magnets) fixed on the rotor core which is surface-mOunted magnets retained by a carbon-fiber bandage. Redundant windings, resistant to fault propagation have accounted. Besides, an axial water-jacket housing without end-cap cooling has involved. All performed characteristic performances of the correlated ARWM will verify by comparison through 2-D and 3-D FEA results. In this paper, design process has dealing with determination of various kinds of losses such as electromagnetic and mechanical losses. In terms of both classified losses, copper, stator back iron, stator tooth, PM, rotor back iron, air-friction and sleeve losses were calculated. The 3-D end-winding effects were included in the modeled ARWM by the authors. 展开更多

研究了DC型养老金经理在损失厌恶和有限期望损失约束下的最优投资组合问题.利用凹化方法得到了基于有限期望损失约束下的DC型养老金的最优财富过程的解析表达式,并进一步比较了在前景理论框架下有限期望损失约束和VaR约束对最优投资行... 研究了DC型养老金经理在损失厌恶和有限期望损失约束下的最优投资组合问题.利用凹化方法得到了基于有限期望损失约束下的DC型养老金的最优财富过程的解析表达式,并进一步比较了在前景理论框架下有限期望损失约束和VaR约束对最优投资行为的影响.虽然在凹效用最大化问题中,当经济非常萧条时,有限期望损失约束下所发生的损失要低于VaR约束下所发生的损失,从而使得有限期望损失约束被认为是一个比VaR约束更有效的风险管理方法,但是在本文所考虑的非凹效用最大化问题中,理论与数值结果表明,当保护水平不是太高时,DC型养老金的最优财富在有限期望损失约束下具有与VaR约束下相同形式的表达公式,也就是说,有限期望损失约束与VaR约束存在着等价关系.因此,在非凹效用框架下,基于有限期望损失约束的风险管理并不比基于VaR约束的风险管理更具有优势,对于损失厌恶型的投资者,需要设计其它有效的风险管理方法来更好地改进对DC型养老金计划的风险管理. 展开更多

To study the influence of skewed rotors and different skew angles on the losses of squirrel cage asynchronous motors,a 5.5-kW motor was taken as an example and the multi-sliced field-circuit coupled time stepping finite element method(T-S FEM)was used to analyze the axially non-uniform fundamental and harmonic field distribution characteristics at typical locations in the stator and rotor cores.The major conclusions are:firstly the skewed rotor exhibits a decrease in the harmonic copper losses caused by slot harmonic currents in the stator winding and rotor bars.Secondly,the skewed rotor shifts the non-uniform distribution of field in the axial direction,which leads to more severe saturation and an increase in iron losses.The heavier the load,the more pronounced the increase in iron losses.Furthermore,the influences of different skew angles on motor losses are studied systematically,with skew angles from 0.5 to 1.5 stator tooth pitch.It is found that the lowest total loss occurs at 0.8 stator tooth pitch,and the slot harmonics can be decreased effectively. 展开更多

Mathematical model of thermal effects of blinking in human eye

Blinking is regarded as the continuous interrupted eyelid closure or opening and its thermal effect will compromise between these two. During a blink, the heat loss via convection, radiation and tear evaporation from cornea is prevented, warm tear is lay- ered across corneal surface and the vessels of the palpebral conjunctiva provide heat to anterior eye. In most of the thermal models in human eye that are found in literatures, effect of blinking is not included, simulation is carried out only in open eye. Thus, in this paper, thermal effects of blinking are investigated using one-dimensional finite element method in transient state case. The bio-heat transfer process is simulated during different blinking rates, lid closure and opening. The simulation is carried out using normal and extreme values of ambient temperatures, blood temperatures, evaporation rates, blood perfusion rates, and lens thermal conduetivities. Blinking is found to increase corneal and lens temperature by 1.29℃ and 0.78℃ respectively when compared to open eye. The results obtained from this model are useful in predicting temperature distribution in different laser eye surgeries, hyperthermia and cryosurgery treatment of eyelid carci- noma, choroidal melanoma and can be used for diagnosing temperature-related diseases. 展开更多
