The virus-free tube plantlets of potato (Favorita) were used as test material. A total of 3 treatments were designed, including traditional hydroponics (CK), installing heaters (T1) and in- stalling heaters and thermal insulation device (T2). The results showed in the Chengdu Plain in low-temperature winter, the installing of heaters and covering of thermal insulation device could maintain the hydroponic water temperature at 15-22 ~C. The potato seedlings grown in heaters and thermal insulation device-installed seedbed rooted 6.4 d earlier and emerged 13 d earlier compared to that in tradi- tional seedbed. The growth of potato seedlings grown in heaters and thermal insu- lation device-installed seedbed was more robust. Their root length, stem diameter, plant height, leaf number and fresh weight were all higher than that of traditional potato seedlings. The tuber number per plant in T1 group reached 1.7 and in T2 group reached 3.57 42 d after the cutting of hydroponic seedlings, while then the plantlets in CK group just turned into the aeroponics stage. Therefore, heating hy- droponics is conducive to advancing the cutting of virus-free seedlings and breeding robust water-cultured seedlings. Moreover, the fruiting of aeroponics seedlings is al- so advanced. The heating hydroponics plays an important role in actual production.展开更多

Methods Sixty-three patients (32 women and 31 men) with diagnosed MTLE underwent diagnostic MR imaging (MRI) and proton MRS using a 3.0T MR scanner. The clinical history and interictal epileptiform discharges (IEDs) were recorded. Sixteen healthy volunteers served as control. The results of proton MRS were compared with the findings of electroencephalogram and structural MRI findings. Results Twenty-seven of the 63 patients with MTLE showed unilateral hippocampal sclerosis, and 9 showed bilateral hippocampal sclerosis. The concentration ratio of N-acytelaspartate (NAA) / [ creatine ( Cr ) + choline (Cho) ] in the hippocampal region of MTLE patients (0. 64±0. 07) was significantly lower than control (0. 80±0. 05, P = 0.023). In the patients with unilateral hippocampal sclerosis, NAA/(Cr + Cho) in the hippocampal region ipsilateral to the sclerotic hippocampus (0.56±0.06) was significantly lower than the ratio in the contralateral hippocampal region (0.69±0.07, P 〈 0. 001 ). There was significant difference in hippocampal NAA/( Cr + Cho) between the refractory patients and the non-refractory patients (0. 64±0. 05 vs.0.71±0. 07, P =0. 04). Forty-five patients were lateralized by IEDs, while 49 patients were lateralized by metabolite ratio. And lateralization determined by proton MRS and IEDs was concordant in 33 patients. Conclusions MRS as a noninvasive tool adds helpful metabolite information to routine MRI in evaluation of MTLE. The method is well established and should be a routine clinical application in the investigation of epilepsy.展开更多

All activities revolving around the use of a horse as entertainment, sport or business play a role in the "horse industry". These activities take place due to the existence of people demanding horses and a variety of goods and services associated with them Previous studies reveal that as income per capita becomes larger, the equestrian demand increases and, consequently, the global expenditure incurred by those individuals interested in horses. More than 500,000 horse, 9,000 breeders and 50,000 equestrian businesses, show the economic importance of the equestrian sector in Spain. That part of global expenditure that adds to the GDP of a country is what is generally defined as economic impact of the sector. Its relation will depend mostly on: the percentage of the expenditure that adds to national production and the participation in the country's global expenditure of those domestic goods and services associated with the equestrian demand. The activities related to sports are those with most economic impact, about 8,000 ∈ per horse, measured as total expenditure or with respect to the employment that they generate in the economy.展开更多

Its economic impact is major for the tomato producer's countries. Prevention, based on early virus detection is the only effective control measure. Monoclonal antibodies appeared to be very useful tool. The authors used for the production of monoclonal antibodies hybridomas technique, by fusing spleen cells of immunized BALB/c mice to PepMV and SP2/O cancerous cells. The aim of this work is to produce hybridomas producers of Mab that could be used for ELISA in Morocco. At the same time, these efforts will serve to decrease expenses of producers concerning phytosanitory control. We obtained 16 hybridomas lines producers of Mab specific for PepMV. They were tested for efficiencies in ELISA and two lines were retained for production of Mab on large scale (1B 11-G 10 and 5A l-G5). Isotyping of these two lines showed that they are belonging to IgG 1 class and easily purified by affinity chromatography in agarose column by protein A. The conjugation of these two antibodies to alkaline phosphatase has been verified by DAS-ELISA. These antibodies will enable to diagnose the disease from infected tomato plants, integrating several serological tests to control it and target the actions of struggles.展开更多

When AA was added into the guanine solution, the oxidation peak currents of mixture solution decreased, while the peak potential and the electrochemical kinetic parameters remained the same as when AA was absent, except that the electrode process of guanine that involved two protons and two electrons changed from adsorption controlled to diffusion controlled. It is suggested that an electrochemical inactive supramolecular adduct AA-Gua (1:1) was formed in the system. The adduct cannot be oxidized on the glassy carbon electrode, which indirectly results in the decrease of the free concentration of guanine in the reaction solution and the decrease of peak currents. The binding constant (13) of this adduct is calculated as 7.14× 10^3 mol/L. The possible mechanism for the interaction of Aristolochic acid and DNA was proposed, that may provide a possible pathway for the nosogenesis research of aristolochic acid.展开更多

Separation of plant cells and removal of the cell wall experimentally, by either a mechanical or an enzymatic process, results in the production ofprotoplast. Protoplasts are useful tools to study the uptake and transport ofmacromolecules and production of somatic hybrids. Protoplasts can be obtained from all types of actively growing young and healthy tissues. The most convenient and widely used source of plant protoplasts is leaf. Juvenile seedling tissues, cotyledons are other alternative tissues most frequently used for protoplasts isolation. All the environmental and genotypic factors, which affect the cell wall thickenings and compactness indirectly, influence the number of protoplasts recovered. Protoplasts are isolated by two methods, mechanical and enzymatic. The enzyme mixture solution of celluiose/macerozyme is used to digest the cell wall. The critical factors affecting the obtaning ofprotoplasts are the kinds of cell wall degrading enzymes, the physiological state of plant leaves, the type of osmotic stabilizers and the composition of reaction solution. With the improvement of technique and enzyme combination rate, the yield of collected protoplasts will be increased higher.展开更多

We are witnessing a regional disparity regarding the volume of foreign investments in this area, which is due to the difference of attractiveness of host countries economy. The attractiveness of these economies is conditioned, in its turn, by the importance of economic factors and the quality of existing infrastructures, which is at their turn facing an increasing complexity of technology. Business relocation of foreign investors is influenced also by the institutional environment, because foreign investors hope to capitalize on the collateral effects offered by the investment environment in the host country, such as research laboratories and existing infrastructure, without neglecting the benefits of a highly qualified workforce at reduced costs, some geopolitical advantages, etc.. After EU accession, the attractiveness index of business environment in Romania has increased from (-59%) in 2005 to 66% (2008), and Romania was considered among the most attractive economies in Central and Eastern Europe, along with Russia where the attractiveness index increased from 63% (2007) to 72% (2008) and Ukraine which has seen an increase in the attractiveness index of the business environment from 56% (2007) to 67% (2008). This paper aims to highlight the positive effects induced by international business companies in assessing technological absorption capacity of the Romanian economy and to provide economic analysis of the "cause-effect" link between the attractiveness of the Romanian economy-governance--the intake of foreign investment straight to the active processing export of Romania under the impact of the overall effects of international financial crisis.展开更多

Methods A total of 182 postmenopausal women aged 50-87 years were chosen at Peking Union Medical College Hospital and assigned to HRT group and control group. The volunteers of HRT group had taken low dose hormone [ estradiol (E2 ) 0. 5-1.0 mg and progesterone 0.5-2.0 mg, once a day ] for 4-33 years. The concentrations of E2, progesterone, and testosterone were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The gene types of apolipoprotein E (ApoE) were measured by polymerase chain reaction, and the subjects with susceptible genes ( ApoE ε3/ε4) of Alzheimer's disease (AD) were screened. Their hippocampus volumes and MRS parameters were obtained through magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and results in two groups were analyzed by statistical method. Results Compared with control group, the concentrations of E2 at each age stage in HRT group were significantly higher (P 〈0. 05) except the 80-89 years old subgroup; yet, there were no statistical differences in the concentrations of progesterone and testosterone between the two groups. There was no obvious difference in ApoE subtypes distribution between the two groups The results of hippocampus MRI for the subjects with susceptible genes ApoE ε3/ε4 (HRT group 14 cases, control group 11 cases) showed that the ratio of bilateral hippocampus volume to whole brain volume in HRT group (0. 406 ± 0.028) was signiticantlyhigher than control gronp (0.369±0.031, P〈0.05). Theresults of ^1H MRS for the subjects with susceptible genes ApoE ε3/ε4 ( HRT group 12 cases, control group 11 cases) showed that the N-acetylaspartate/total creatine at the area of hippocampus in HRT group ( 1.54±0. 08 ) were significantly higher than control group ( 1.45±0. 13, P 〈 0. 05). Conclusions For postmenopausal women, long-term low dose HRT can maintain the physiological concentration of E2 in plasma. Furthermore, the hippocampus MRI performed on those with ApoE ε3/ε3 genes shows that long-term low dose HRT can prevent hippocampus atrophy, which is beneficial to maintain the brain function and prevent AD.展开更多

This paper examines technical efficiency of government linked companies (GLCs) and benchmarks the result with top foreign owned firms listed in Bursa Malaysia. The study employs an unbalanced panel dataset of 31 existing GLCs over a period of nine years (2000-2008) using the stochastic frontier model. The results provide estimates of mean technical efficiency of these firms for the first time, and highlight the variation between the GLCs and foreign owned firms which represent international standard. The findings show mean technical efficiency of GLCs is moving towards the frontier but it still relatively low compared to the foreign firms. The trend declined drastically at the later period showing a wider gap against the benchmark firms. The findings hope to contribute to the growing literature on firms' efficiency focusing on privatized firms in developing countries.展开更多

This paper focuses on above mentioned issues with reference to Dracula, the rock opera of Italian band PFM (Premiata Forneria Marconi), explaining how every visual aspects (also considering scenography and costumes) are closely linked to libretto and music to show the consistency among the different facets of the opera production. In this procedure, graphic artists and designers confirm their knowledge, but apart from this awareness, there are some symptoms of an tmconscious creativity as much coherent. As a result, this study aims to show how the management of the biggest colossal in the history of rock opera tries--constantly torn between art and advertising--to attract a potential audience by means of the iconography both of the composers and of the most famous vampire in the world.展开更多

Concern was raised that Islamic Studies faced the risk of being misunderstood if the lessons were taught through self-accessing method with minimal intervention from teachers. Using the Dick and Carey instructional model as a framework, an e-learning version was devised for the national Form 4 Islamic Studies syllabus, "The steps and procedures of Hajj and Umrah". The Islamic Studies textbook for national secondary schools in Malaysia was reviewed using a systematic approach, from identifying the instructional goal through to formative and summative evaluation processes. Interview sessions with students were conducted to assess the developed e-learning Islamic Studies content. A subsequent survey with students was conducted. Results from the study indicated the e-learning Islamic Studies content had the potential to help students, being easy to use, and attracting and retaining students' attention.展开更多

文摘Acutely isolated mouse hippocampal CA3 pyramidal neurons were exposed to 3 mT static magnetic field, and the characteristics of transient outward K+ channel were studied using the whole-cell patch-clamp technique. The experiment revealed that the amplitude of transient outward potassium channel current was reduced. The maximum activated current densities of control group and exposure group were 163.62±20.68 pA/pF and 98.74±16.57 pA/pF(n=12,P<0.01) respectively. The static magnetic field exposure affected the activation and inactivation process of transient outward potassium channel current.Due to the magnetic field exposure, the half-activation voltage of the activation curves changed from 5.59±1.96 mV to 27.87±7.24 mV(n=12,P<0.05) ,and the slope factor changed from 19.43±2.11 mV to 25.87±4.22 mV(n=12,P<0.05) .The half-inactivation voltage of the inactivation curves also changed from-56.09±0.89 mV to-57.16±1.10 mV(n=12,P>0.05) and the slope factor of the inactivation curves from 8.69±0.80 mV to 10.87±1.02 mV(n=12,P<0.05) .The results show that the static magnetic field can change the characteristics of transient outward K+ channel, and affect the physiological functions of neurons.
文摘Plasma membrane of plant cells is surrounded by cellulose wall and adjacent cells are joined together by a thick pectin rich matrix. With the improvement of technique and enzyme combination rate, the yield of collected protoplasts will be increased higher.
文摘Creating companies abroad, in ex-socialist countries of Central and Eastern Europe, has experienced a strong progression, following the amplification process of globalization of world markets, intensification of international trade and technological development. This paper aims to highlight the positive effects induced by international business companies in assessing technological absorption capacity of the Romanian economy and to provide economic analysis of the "cause-effect" link between the attractiveness of the Romanian economy-governance--the intake of foreign investment straight to the active processing export of Romania under the impact of the overall effects of international financial crisis.
文摘To investigate the effects of long-term low dose hormone replacement therapy (HRT) on postmenopaosal women in homone level, cognition score, hippocampus volume, and magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) parameters. Furthermore, the hippocampus MRI performed on those with ApoE ε3/ε3 genes shows that long-term low dose HRT can prevent hippocampus atrophy, which is beneficial to maintain the brain function and prevent AD.
文摘The Malaysian government launched the Government Linked Companies Transformation (GLCT) Programme in May 2004, with the aim, amongst others, of ensuring continuous improvement of these firms amidst global trade competitiveness and economic challenges. The findings hope to contribute to the growing literature on firms' efficiency focusing on privatized firms in developing countries.
文摘Playbills, covers, and logo of an opera often reflect the meanings of the drama. As a result, this study aims to show how the management of the biggest colossal in the history of rock opera tries--constantly torn between art and advertising--to attract a potential audience by means of the iconography both of the composers and of the most famous vampire in the world.
文摘Despite the efforts by Ministry of Education to promote Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in education in Malaysia, the Islamic education syllabus is far behind the intended plan in ICT usage in learning and teaching. Results from the study indicated the e-learning Islamic Studies content had the potential to help students, being easy to use, and attracting and retaining students' attention.
