After we have studied their structure and flaws, the results show that the CuCr alloys have definite strength and toughness, while their fractured surface displays ductile characteristics. In the metallurgical structure, CuCr alloys are composed of two phases of uniform distribution; the SEM morphology is like thin strips with an end arrangement that is bonded to each other and the two-phase distribution of CuCr alloys is more homogenous. It is in only in a very small zone that formation of Cu-rich and Cr-rich phases take place. The flaws of the compaction samples are mainly central-holes and cracks.展开更多

The signals were recorded by remote sensors connected to a computer network. The sensing equipment consisted of 60 kHz resonant-type AE sensors mounted on a reinforcing steel bar as a waveguide, together with a 16-channel sensor highway AE system. Because the detected AE signals included periodic mechanical noise from the motion of the wheel, these noises were eliminated by means of signal processing. The AE waveguide measurement over a length of 3 m detected fractures as vertical and horizontal cracks in the RC (reinforced concrete) slab. Those cracks were analyzed by correlating AE parameters with macroscopic distortions and the numbers of fatigue cycles. In the AE events and AE energy, two types of AE phenomena, active region and inactive region, were observed during fatigue testing. The vertical cracks were characterized by an AE amplitude of 58 dB, a peak frequency of 30 kHz, and a ratio of the rise time to the maximum amplitude value (RA) of 100. The horizontal cracks were characterized by an AE amplitude of 85 dB, a peak frequency of 60 kHz, and an RA value of 10.展开更多

Three different notch sizes were placed, one by one, at the top surface of a cantilever beam (to be considered as a crack at the mechanical system) and harmonic forces were applied at the tip of the beam with three different frequencies, for each notch size, to obtain experimental data to run the diagnosis algorithm. From the results it was possible to infer that the observation system performance increases with the raising of the crack size, which can be explained by the model, that gets more accurate with bigger crack sizes, however, when the propagation of the crack is considered at the model, the diagnosis of the crack presence tends to be more difficult. It was also possible to conclude that the developed algorithm works properly for systems which excitation frequencies are higher than 20 Hz and different from the natural frequencies of the system, due to influence of dynamic response of the crack at the model.展开更多
