PREDICTION OF RIME ICE ACCRETION AND RESULTING EFFECT ON AIRFOIL PERFORMANCE 被引量:3

The roughness effect based on the wall function method is introduced into the numerical simulation of the rime ice accretion and the resulting effect on the aerodynamic performance of the airfoil. Incorporating the two-phase model of air/super-cooled droplets in the Eulerian coordinate system, this paper presents the simulation of the rime ice accretion on the NACA 0012 airfoil. The predicted rime ice shape is compared with those results of measurements and simulations by other icing codes. Also the resulting effects of rime ice on airfoil aerodynamic performance are discussed. Results indicate that the rime ice accretion leads to the loss of the maximum lift coefficient by 26%, the decrease of the stall angle by about 3° and the considerable increase of the drag coefficient. 展开更多

In view of the reduction of hovering efficiency near high tension when a helicopter rotor hovers,a numerical simulation method of lifting rotor hovering aerodynamic characteristics based on leading edge droop is established in this paper. It is dominated by Reynolds average N-S equation in integral form. Firstly,VR-12 airfoil is taken as the research object,and the influence of leading edge droop angle on the aerodynamic characteristics of two-dimensional airfoil is studied. Secondly,the modified 7 A rotor is taken as the research object,and the effects of different leading edge droop angles at the position of blade r/R=0.75—1 on the aerodynamic characteristics in hover are explored. It is found that the leading edge droop can significantly improve the aerodynamic characteristics of two-dimensional airfoil and three-dimensional hovering rotor near high angle of attack,and can effectively inhibit the generation of stall vortex. 展开更多

To improve aerodynamic performance of wind turbine airfoils,the shape profile characteristic of the airfoil is investigated.Application of conformal transformation,one functional and integrated expression of wind turbine airfoils is presented.Using the boundary layer theory,the aerodynamic model with roughness of wind turbine airfoils is introduced by studying flow separation around the airfoil.Based on the shape expression and aerodynamic performance of airfoils,the function design of wind turbine airfoils is carried out that the maximum lift-drag ratio and low roughness sensitivity are designed objects.Three wind turbines airfoils with different thickness are gained which are used at tip part of blades.As an example,the aerodynamic performance of one designed airfoil with relative thickness of 15%is simulated in different conditions of clean surface,rough surface,laminar flow and turbulent flow.The comparison of aerodynamic performance between the designed airfoil and one popular NACA airfoil is completed which can verify the better performance of the designed airfoil and reliability of the designed method. 展开更多

Low Dissipation Simulation for Vortex Flowfield of Rotor in Hover Based upon Discontinuous Galerkin Method

The discontinuous Galerkin(DG) method is established and innovatively conducted on accurately simulating the evolution of blade-tip vortex and the aerodynamic characteristics of helicopter rotor. Firstly,the Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes(RANS)equations in rotating reference frame are employed,and the embedded grid system is developed with the finite volume method(FVM)and the DG method conducted on the blade grid and background grid respectively. Besides,the Harten-Lax-Van Leer contact(HLLC)scheme with high-resolution and low-dissipation is employed for spatial discretization,and the explicit third-order Runge-Kutta scheme is used to accomplish the temporal discretization. Secondly,the aerodynamic characteristics and the evolution of blade-tip vortex for Caradonna-Tung rotor are simulated by the established CFD method,and the numerical results are in good agreement with experimental data,which well validates the accuracy of the DG method and shows the advantages of DG method on capturing the detailed blade-tip vortex compared with the FVM method. Finally,the evolution of tip vortex at different blade tip Mach numbers and collective pitches is discussed. 展开更多

Aerodynamic/mechanism optimization of a variable camber Fowler flap for general aviation aircraft 被引量:1

A Fowler flap with a double-sliding tr... A conventional Fowler flap is designed to improve the take-off and landing performances of an aircraft. Because the flight states of general aviation aircraft vary significantly. A Fowler flap with a double-sliding track has been designed, which is ca- pable of changing airfoil camber while cruising and climbing as well as meeting low-speed performance requirements. The aerodynamic characteristics of the variable camber Fowler flap were studied by computational simulation, and cambering was found to be beneficial for improving the lift-to-drag ratio when the lift coefficient was larger than the critical value, below which decambering was more effective; this critical value differed somewhat under different conditions. Taking the mecha- nism into account, the take-off and landing configurations were optimized on the basis of the GA (W)-1 airfoil with a 30% chord Fowler flap. Compared with reference configuration, the maximum lift coefficient of optimized take-off configuration was increased by 6.6% as well as the stalling angle and the lift-to-drag ratio were increased by 1.3° and 7.58%, respectively. Moreover, the maximum lift coefficient of the optimized landing configuration was increased by 6.3%, and the stalling angle was increased by 1.1°; however, the nose-down pitching moment of both configurations increased. An Airfoil Parameterization Method for the Representation and Optimization of Wind Turbine Special Airfoil 被引量:6

A new airfoil shape parameterization method is developed, which extended the Bezier curve to the generalized form with adjustable shape parameters. The local control parameters at airfoil leading and trailing edge regions are enhanced, where have significant effect on the aerodynamic performance of wind turbine. The results show this improved parameterization method has advantages in the fitting characteristics of geometry shape and aero- dynamic performance comparing with other three common airfoil parameterization methods. The new paramete- rization method is then applied to airfoil shape optimization for wind turbine using Genetic Algorithm (GA), and the wind turbine special airfoil, DU93-W-210, is optimized to achieve the favorable C1/Cd at specified flow con- ditions. The aerodynamic characteristic of the optimum airfoil is obtained by solving the RANS equations in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method, and the optimization convergence curves show that the new para- meterization method has good convergence rate in less number of generations comparing with other methods. It is concluded that the new method not only has well controllability and completeness in airfoil shape representation and provides more flexibility in expressing the airfoil geometry shape, but also is capable to find efficient and op- timal wind turbine airfoil.
