The Mg-3%Al melt was inoculated by carbon with different holding time.The effect of holding time on grain refining efficiency was evaluated.The solidification characteristics of the carbon-inoculated Mg-3%Al melt with different holding time were assessed by computer-aided cooling curve analysis.The results showed that Mg-3%Al alloy could be effectively refined by carbon inoculation.Slight fading phenomenon occurred with increasing the holding time to 60 min.Carbon inoculation could significantly influence the shape of cooling curves of Mg-3%Al melt.The nucleation starting and minimum temperatures increased.The recalescence undercooling and duration decreased to almost zero after carbon inoculation.The grain refining efficiency of carbon inoculation could be assessed by the shape of the cooling curve and solidification characteristic parameters including nucleation starting and minimum temperatures,recalescence undercooling and duration. 展开更多

Brazing has a wide acceptance in industries and its simplicity in variety of application attracts more and more patronage. The strength of brazing joint determines the reliability of brazed engineering components. So the need to ascertain the reliability or to predict its failure (without some destructive testing) becomes high even with a computer aided analysis using the Finite Element Analysis. Here, we have employed the services of FEA software, Abaqus CAE, as a tool for the computer calculation to investigate a joint case of cemented carbide brazed with silver-based filler metal. In this paper, 2D analysis has been adopted because the thickness of the material (in 2D) does not influence the final calculation results. We have applied constant loading and constant boundary condition to explore data from the elastic and plastic strain analysis through which we were able to predict the maximum joint strength with respect to the joint thickness. The pattern of the meshing was also significant. And the result could be transferable to a real-life field situation. The final results showed that there is an optimum thickness of the filler metal with the maximum strength which matches that obtained from experiment. 展开更多

Since the entry into the "Au- tomobile Lightweight Technology Innovation Strategic Alliance" in Dec. 2007, Geely Group has been focusing on light- weight construction of vehicle and key assemblies in every stage of the vehicle product development. Among vehicles ap- peared on the market and in research, it has presented continuously better performance. The code-series (CS), which are organized from node association table, have the holo-information nature, so that both the content and the sign of each gain-term can be determined via the coded method. The principle of this method is obvious and it is suited for computer programming. In this paper the modern electron optical equipment is used to translate the clear image of speed moving bubbles in bubbling liquid on a sieve tray into the digital information stored in computer, and the computer aided image processing technique is utilized to measure the bubble size distributions and interfacial areas under various operating conditions. And the dynamic behavior of bubbles in turbulent liquid is analyzed theoretically; the mechanism of bubble deformation and breakage is explored on the basis of Kolmogoroff′s isotropic turbulence hypothesis; the mathematical model for predicting the gas liquid interfacial area is proposed. The comparison between the simulated results and the experimental data shows that the model is higher in accuracy, simple in form and convenient in use. 展开更多

A stress analysis of the Sarafix external fixator design was performed using finite element analysis (FEA) and experimental tensometric measurements. The study was conducted at one of the Sarafix fixator configurations that have a clinical application in the treatment of tibia fractures. The intensity of principal and yon Mises stresses generated at two measuring points (MP) on the fixator connecting rod were monitored and analyzed during the testing on axial compression on the fixator design and its finite element model (FEM). The 3D geometrical and FEM model of the fixator was formed using the computer aided design/computer aided engineering (CAD/CAE) software system CATIA. Verification of the results for the dominant principal stresses obtained from FEA was carried out through tensometric measurements. The measuring chain consisted of strain gauges connected into two Wheatstone half-bridges, digital measuring amplifier system and a computer with software for acquisition and monitoring of measurement results. In this paper an attempt is made to evolve a Remedial Grammar (RG) which enables the teacher to develop a repertoire of remedial activities based on the errors identified following Error Analysis (EA) for repeated presentation. The error types are considered as teaching/learning points. The present paper argues that CALL is the right model for effective remedial learning. Remedial Gmaster (RGm), an authoring package is introduced. This is an exclusive mode of error correction in which interlingual, intralingual, developmental, and global errors are dealt with.
