A modified mixed strengthening model was proposed for describing the yield strength of particle reinforced aluminum matrix composites.The strengthening mechanisms of the composites were analyzed based on the microstructures and compression mechanical properties.The distribution uniformity of reinforcements and cooperation relationship among dislocation mechanisms were considered in the modified mixed strengthening model by introducing a distribution uniformity factor u and a cooperation coefficient fc,respectively.The results show that the modified mixed strengthening model can accurately describe the yield strengths of Al3Ti/2024Al composites with a relative deviation less than1.2%,which is much more accurate than other strengthening models.The modified mixed model can also be used to predict the yield strength of Al3Ti/2024Al composites with different fractions of reinforcements. 展开更多

This paper deals with a methodology for single gate location optimization for plastic injection mold. The objective of the gate optimization is to minimize the warpage of injection molded parts, because warpage is a crucial quality issue for most injection molded parts while it is influenced greatly by the gate location. Feature warpage is defined as the ratio of maximum displacement on the feature surface to the projected length of the feature surface to describe part warpage. The optimization is combined with the numerical simulation technology to find the optimal gate location, in which the simulated annealing algorithm is used to search for the optimum. Finally, an example is discussed in the paper and it can be concluded that the proposed method is effective. 展开更多

An expansion theory of spherical cavities in strain-softening materials with different moduli of tension and com-pression was presented. For geomaterials,two controlling parameters were introduced to take into account the different moduli and strain-softening properties. By means of elastic theory with different moduli and stress-softening models,general solutions cal-culating Tresca and Mohr-Coulomb materials' stress and displacement fields of expansion of spherical cavity were derived. The effects caused by different elastic moduli in tensile and compression and strain-softening rates on stress and displacement fields and development of plastic zone of expansion of cavity were analyzed. The results show that the ultimate expansion pressure,stress and displacement fields and development of plastic zone vary with the different elastic moduli and strain-softening prop-erties. If classical elastic theory is adopted and strain-softening properties are neglected,rather large errors may be the result. 展开更多

To describe the deformation and strength characteristics of the corroded rock-like specimens containing a single crack under uniaxial compression,a damage constitutive model combining hydro-chemical damage with coupling damage of micro-flaws and macro-cracks is proposed.Firstly,based on phenomenological theory,the damage variable of the rock-like specimens subjected to water environment erosion and chemical corrosion is obtained.Secondly,a coupled damage variable for cracked rock-like specimens is derived based on the Lemaitre strain equivalence hypothesis,which combines the Weibull statistical damage model for micro-flaws and the fracture mechanics model for a macro single crack.Then,considering the residual strength characteristics of the rock-like materials,the damage variable is modified by introducing the correction coefficient,and the damage constitutive model of the corroded rock-like specimens with a single crack under uniaxial compression is established.The model is verified by comparing the experimental stress−strain curves,and the results are in good agreement with those provided in the literature.Finally,the correction coefficient of the damage variable proposed in this paper is discussed.The damage constitutive model developed in this paper provides an effective method to describe the stress−strain relationship and residual strength characteristics of the corroded rock-like specimens with a single crack under uniaxial compression. 展开更多

To better study the behavior of confined concrete, this paper presents the basic hypothesis of uhimate equilibrium of confined concrete and the unified yield criteria of confining material. Based on the static equilibrium condition and yield criteria of components, a unified bearing capacity model of confined concrete column is proposed, and a simplified calculating equation of the model is also given. The model captures the character of confined concrete column. Effects of the confinement effect ratio, the lateral confinement ratio, unconfined concrete strength and the properties of confining material on the bearing capacity of confined concrete column are carefully considered. The model may be applicable to the calculation of bearing capacity of steel-confined concrete, concrete filled steel tube and FRP-confined concrete. An optimum design model has been proposed for carbon/carbon ablative property based on genetic algorithm,in which the optimum parameters are the number of woven satins,K of fiber bundles,layers per unit height,the average distance of puncture fibers in Z direction and Ply Stacking angle,and the constraint conditions are the density and diameter of carbon fibers and the density of carbon matrix.The results demonstrate that after optimization,the overall height of the ablative carbon/carbon surface is reduced by 56.5%,the standard deviation is reduced by 34.9% and the surface roughness is reduced by 12.6%,which suggests the remarkable improvement of ablative homogeneity.The present investigation can provide practical methodology for the optimum design of carbon/carbon ablative property and the development of new carbon/carbon composites. 展开更多

The design of housing systems is today challenged by a highly uncertain context, dominated by the rapid development of functional and technological obsolescence in inherited housing models. If flexibility is the ability of a system to be easily modified and to respond to changes in the environment timely and conveniently, it can be considered as the antidote to obsolescence or the characteristic of the system that guarantees slippage over time. Our paper focuses on the concept of flexibility as a fundamental prerequisite for residential building in order to extend its life cycle design, through strategies and constructive solutions that ensure both the convertibility of the space in response to changing usage and the use of building materials that encourage the reversibility and the long-term easy maintenance of the technological choices that have been implemented. Flexibility is examined both from a conceptual point of view, so as to obtain a clear and logical definition that is distinct from related terms, as well as from a practical point of view, by finding ways to incorporate this requirement into the designing of housing. 展开更多

In order to investigate the effect of microvoids on the mechanical behavior of casting magnesium alloy,a spherical void-cell model of the material was presented.The velocity and strain fields of the model were obtained from the assumption that the material matrix is homogeneous and incompressible.The hardening and softening functions,which respectively reflect the deformation-hardening and void-softening behaviors of the material,were presented and introduced to an endochronic constitutive equation for describing the mechanical behavior of the material including microvoids.The corresponding numerical algorithm and finite element procedure were developed and applied to the analyses of the elastoplastic response and the porosity of casting magnesium alloy ZL102.The computed results show satisfactory agreement with experimental data. 展开更多

Void swelling is an important phenomenon observed in both nuclear fuels and cladding materials in operating nuclear reactors. In this work we develop a phase-field model to simulate void evolution and void volume change in irradiated materials. Important material processes, including the generation of defects such as vacancies and self-interstitials, their diffusion and annihilation, and void nucleation and evolution, have been taken into account in this model. The thermodynamic and kinetic properties, such as chemical free energy, interfacial energy, vacancy mobility, and annihilation rate of vacancies and interstitials, are expressed as a function of temperature and/or defect concentrations in a general manner. The model allows for parametric studies of critical void nucleus size, void growth kinetics, and void volume fraction evolutions. Our simulations demonstrated that void swelling displays a quasi-bell shape distribution with temperature often observed in experiments. 展开更多

Damage-induced material softening and its effect on seismic performance of steel structures 被引量:1

A numerical approach for simulating the seismic performance of steel truss structures, considering damage-induced material softening, is developed based on a ductile damage constitutive model by applying the backward Euler explicit algorithm. It is implemented in ABAQUS through a user-defined material subroutine, by which damage evolution could be incorporated into the analysis of seismic performance of steel structures. The case study taken up here is the investigation of a steel connection with a reduced beam section(RBS) and a steel frame with such connections. The material softening effect during the failure process is particularly investigated. The results show that material softening in the vulnerable zone has a significant effect on the distribution of stress and strain fields, as well as on the carrying capacity of the steel connection with RBS. Further, material softening is found to have almost negligible effect on the seismic performance of the steel frame in the early stages of the loading process, but has a large effect when the steel frame is about to fail. These findings offer a practical reference for the assessment of seismic structural failure, and help in understanding the damage mechanism of steel structures under seismic loading. 展开更多
