The effects of NiAl content on phase constituents and microstructures were investigated. The results show that the reaction products are composed of TiB2, TiC and NiAl. The content of NiAl increases with the adding of Ni+Al in green compacts. TiB2, TiC and NiAl grains present in different shapes in the matrix, TiB2 being in hexagonal or rectangular shapes, TiC in spherical shapes, and NiAl squeezed into the gaps of TiC and TiB2 grains. With the increase of NiAl content, the grains of TiC-TiB2-NiAl composites are refined, their density and compressive strength are improved, and the shapes of TiC grains become spherical instead of irregular ones. Finally, the fracture mechanism of the composites transforms from intergranular fracture mode to the compounded fracture mode of intergranular fracture and transgranular fracture.展开更多

The chemical composition, microstructure and micro-hardness of the as-deposited GSM were investigated. The results show that the TA2 part of exhibiting near-equiaxed grains was Widmanst?tten α-laths microstructure. The TA15 part containing large columnar grains was fine basket-weave microstructure. The graded zone was divided into four deposited layers with 3000 μm in thickness. As the distance from the TA2 part increases, the alloy element contents and the β phase volume fraction increase, the α phase volume fraction decreases and the microstructure shows the evolution from Widmanst?tten α-laths to basket-weave α-laths gradually. The micro-hardness increases from the TA2 part to the TA15 part due to the solid solution strengthening and grain boundary strengthening.展开更多

The true stress-true strain curves were obtained in the tests. Constitutive equation and processing map were established. The results show that the flow stress decreases with the increase of deformation temperature at a constant strain rate, and increases with the increase of strain rate at constant temperature, indicating that composite is a positive strain rate sensitive material. The flow stress behavior of composite during hot compression deformation can be represented by a Zener-Hollomon parameter in the hyperbolic sine form. Its activation energy for hot deformation Q is 225.4 kJ/mol. To demonstrate the potential workability, the stable zones and the instability zones in the processing map were identified and verified through micrographs. Considering processing map and microstructure, the hot deformation should be carried out at the temperature of 500 °C and the strain rate of 0.1-1 s-1.展开更多

The result showed that in the TiAl alloy,α2 lamellae thinned and were broken down, and became discontinuous with increasing aging time. The decomposition ofα2 lamella toγ which was characterized by parallel decomposition and breakdown ofα2 lamellae led to the degradation of the lamellar structure. While in the composite, lamellar structure remained relatively stable even after aging at 900 ℃ for 100 h. No breakdown ofα2 lamellae except parallel decomposition and precipitation of fine nitride particles was observed. The better microstructural stability of the composite was mainly attributed to the precipitation of Ti2AlN particles at theα2/γ interface which played an important role in retarding the coarsening of lamellar microstructure in the matrix of composite.展开更多

It is shown that the composition of η phase in the core zone is Co_3W_3C (M_6 C type). The structure of cobalt based solid solution binder phase is fcc type. At the cooling stage of the sintering process, the phase transition of η phase, i.e. M_6C→M_12C and the martensitic phase transition of the cobalt based solid solution binder phase, i.e. fcc→hcp are suppressed, which facilitates the strengthening of the alloy. Because the instantaneous temperature of the discharge channel is as high as 10 000 ℃ during the wire cutting process, the processed surface is oxidized. Nevertheless, the oxide layer thickness is in micro grade. In the oxide film, η phase is decomposed into W_2C and CoO, and cobalt based solid solution binder is selectively oxidized, while WC remains stable due to the existence of carbon containing liquid organic cutting medium.展开更多

This structure is assembled by a split ring resonator (SRR) with a metal mesh within a unit cell. Our experimental studies on the composite structure indicate that the coupling of the SRR and metal mesh significantly contribute to the transparency at the terahertz range. Moreover, we experimentally demonstrated the verity of transmission peak of this structure by changing the relative positions of the SRR and the metal mesh. The simulated electric field redistributions support the dependence between position of the two components and the transmission response. This study is the first to report a hybrid metamaterial structure consisting of an SRR array and a metal mesh within a unit cell. The designed process and resonance characteristics of this composite structure make it an excellent candidate for developing tunable terahertz components via integration with the MEMS (Micro Electronic Mechanical System) technology.展开更多

The entry of nanoparticles into cells has become a primary issue for effectively regulating the subsequent safety and performance of nanomaterials in vivo. Although the influence of nanomaterials on endocytosis has been extensively studied, reports on the influence of stem cells are rare. Moreover, the effect of nanomaterials on stem cells is also dependent upon the action mode. Unfortunately, the interaction between stem cells and assembled nanoparticles is often neglected. In this paper, we explore for the first time the uptake of γ-Fe2O3 nanoparticles by adipose-derived stem cells with different passage numbers. The results demonstrate that cellular viability decreases and cell senescence level increases with the extension of the passage number. We found the surface appearance of cellular membranes to become increasingly rough and uneven with increasing passage numbers. The iron content in the dissociative nanoparticles was also significantly reduced with increases in the passage number. However, we observed multiple-passaged stem cells cultured on assembled nanoparticles to have similarly low iron content levels. The mechanism may lie in the magnetic effect of γ-Fe2O3 nanoparticles resulting from the field-directed assembly. The results of this work will facilitate the understanding and translation of nanomaterials in the clinical application of stem cells.展开更多

However, since the list of materials that may gen- erate such concerns is very long, it is impossible to test them all. It is therefore usually recommended to use some small compositional nanomaterial libraries to perform ini- tial toxicity screening, based on which combinatorial libraries are then introduced for more in-depth studies. All nanomaterials in the compositional and combinatorial libraries must be rigorously characterized before any bio- logical studies. In this review, several major categories of physicochemical properties that must be characterized are discussed, along with different analytical techniques that are commonly used.
