[Method] Paraffin section technique combined with field investigation method were adopted to conduct com- parative analysis of shoot histomorphology and phenological phases between two Io- quat varieties, 'Chuanzao Loquat' and 'Zaozhong 6'. [Result] 'Chuanzao Loquat' branched out and unfolded leaves about half to a month earlier than 'Zaozhong 6'; both the flowering and fruiting phases of 'Chuanzao Loquat' were three months earlier than a precocious variety, 'Zaozhong 6'; the proportions of epidermis, cortex parenchyma, vascular tissue and medulla were 3.7%, 14.5%, 15.9% and 65.9%, re- spectively, in spdng shoots of 'Chuanzao Loquat', and 3.1%, 42.5%, 6.9% and 47.5%, respectively, in 'Zaozhong 6'. [Conclusion] In terms of phenological phases, 'Chuanzao Loqua' is earlier than 'Zaozhong 6', a currently widely planted precocious variety, and thus is an important germplasm resource of Ioquats. 展开更多

[Objective] The objective of the study was to elucidate the duplicate collinearity diagnosis method for soil nutrient and provide basis for establishment of multiple regression model of relationship between independent variable and depen- dent variable in fruit trees. [Method] An investigation on soil nutrients and 'Fuji' fruit quality was conducted at 153 commercial apple orchards in the production re- gions of 51 counties in China from 2011 to 2012. At first, the regression equation was used to do the duplicate collinearity diagnosis, and then the partial least squares regression was used to analyze the weights of different soil nutrients that affected the fruit quality and screen out main soil nutrients. [Result] The results showed the conditional number between soil nutrients was 61.31, and the correlation coefficient of soil pH and available calcium, iron was 0.82 and -0.824 respectively, which demonstrated that there was multicollinearity between various soil nutrient contents. The soil organic matter, total nitrogen, available potassium, available nitro- gen, available phosphorus, available zinc, available iron and available boron showed positive effect Ioadings on fruit quality, while the }oadings and weights of the effects of available calcium and pH on fruit quality were negative. The variable importance for projection method was adopted to get the orders of the effects of major soil nu- trients on fruit quality, which was in the order of soil available calcium, nitrogen, available iron, available phosphorous, organic matter and available boron. The solu- ble solid content of the fruit was affected by soil organic matter, available phospho- rus, available iron, available boron and soil pH. [Conclusion] This study provided an analysis method and theoretical basis for the study and analysis on the relationships between dependent variables and multi-objective optimization, as well as the effects of soil nutrients on fruit quality in fruit tree. 展开更多

Taking Malus pumila Mill, Cv. ‘Jinguan' as test matedal, the storage quality of the apples under the different storage conditions of plastic membrane atmosphere storage (MAP), fruit wax coating, chitosan treatment with different calcium fertilizers were studied. The results showed that different storage modes inhibited the fruit rotting and weight loss, delayed the decrease of fruit hardness and titratable acid content, reduced the soluble solid content, inhibited the degradation of vitamin C. The suitable treatment had good effect on preservation of apple fruits, in which 1% chitosan treatment had the best effect. 展开更多

In order to study the application effect of microbial fertilizer and compound fertilizer mixed application on microirrigation apple, three types of fertilizers were applied in spring which were urea(CK, 15 kg/plant), microbial fertilizer(5.0 kg/plant),microbial fertilizer and compound fertilizer mixed(each 2.5 kg/plant) to study the effect of different fertilizer treatments on yield, fruit quality, flowering and fruit setting of Xinshijie apple. The results showed that application of microbial fertilizer could increase the yield, fruit weight and fruit shape index, significantly increase the flowering rates and inflorescence fruit setting rate of following year, while reduce the fruit hardness and soluble solids content, and the effect of microbial fertilizer and compound fertilizer mixed application on increasing fruit weight and yield was higher than that of microbial fertilizer separate application, the effect of the two was not obvious in other aspects. Therefore, microbial fertilizer could be used instead of some chemical fertilizer and organic fertilizer in apple production to reach the aim of increasing yield and efficiency, and the effect of microbial fertilizer and compound fertilizer mixed application was best. 展开更多

[Objective] The paper was to evaluate effects of peracetic acid (PAA) combined with calcium treatments on storage quality of Ioquat fruits, so as to pro- vide practical techniques to solve the problems of postharvest rot and quality deteri- oration for Ioquat fruits. [Method] With Ioquat fruits of Qingzhong variety as materi- als, 0.2%, 0.4% and 0.8% PAA combined with 0.8% CaCI2 was used to soak Ioquat fruits for 4 min, 0.8% CaCl2 and water treatments were set as two controls; the fruits were dried and packaged by 0.02 mm PE bags, then stored under non-chilling low temperature of (7±1) ℃. The indicators related to storage quality of Ioquat fruits were randomly tested once every 3 d, and their variation situations were analyzed. [Result] Compared with two control treatments and 0.2% PAA, 0.8% PAA combined with calcium treatments, the treatment of 0.4% PAA combined with 0.8% CaCl2 could significantly inhibit rot index, weight loss rate, firmness and cell membrane permeability of Ioquat fruits during storage period, which could also effectively delay the reduction of titratable acid, vitamin C, soluble solid content and juice yield, and maintain respiration intensity of fruits at a low level; the appearance and flavor qual- ity of fruits were good after stored for 25 d. [Conclusion] 0.4% PAA combined with 0.8% CaCl2 treatment is an efficient, safe and economical practice technology in an- ti-corrosion and quality preservation for postharvest Ioquat fruits . 展开更多

[Method] Taking 13 introduced olive varieties including three varieties of eight different grades of maturity, fat acid w3s first extracted by Soxhlet extraction and then squalene was quantitatively and qualitatively analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) method. [Result] The results showed that squalene content was the highest in CG-32, and the lowest in Leccino among the 13 olive varieties. And squalene content increased with the degree of maturity in the three olive varieties including CG-32, Frantoio and Ascolana Tenera. [Conclusion] A more simple and rapid method for the determina- tion of squatene content was established. 展开更多

Correlation Analysis between Quality Characteristics and Fruit Mineral Element Contents in 'Fuji' Apples

[Objective] The aims were to explore the relationship between the contents of fruit mineral elements and quality features of the 'Fuji' apple, screen major mineral elements of the fruit affecting fruit quality features, and set up optimum proposals of fruit mineral elements for good fruit qualities, so as to provide a theoretical basis for the reasonable orchard soil and foliar fertilizer applications to increase fruit quality and reduce the physiological diseases related to the 'Fuji' apple. [Methods] The fruit mineral elements and quality indicators of 'Fuji" apples were in- vestigated and analyzed, which were collected from the 153 commercial apple or- chards of "Fuji' apple located in 51 counties. The variable importance for projection (VlP) of partial least squares regression (PLS) method was used to analyze the model effect and weight analysis impact of the fruit mineral element contents to fruit quality, screen out major factors of fruit mineral elements influencing the different fruit qualities, and set up the regression equation of the fruit qualities and major fruit mineral elements. Linear programming was used to obtain optimum proposals of the fruit mineral elements to achieve good 'Fuji' apple qualities. [Results] The mineral elements content and quality characteristics in "Fuji' apple fruit had great differences in the different produce regions in which the maximum content of nitro- gen, iron, zinc and boron in the 'Fuji' fruit were12.06, 6.17, 7.7, and 10.08 times greater than the minimum respectively, and the differences for titratable acid and the SSC/TA ratio were 2.33 and 2.16 times respectively. The correlation analysis between the fruit mineral element contents and qualities showed that the nitrogen content of fruit had a significantly negative correlation with the soluble solid content, SSC/TA ratio and red color area, while the calcium and iron contents in the fruit were in significantly positive correlation with the soluble solid content and SSC/TA ratio. The model effect and weight analysis showed that the content of nitrogen and iron in the fruit had a greater influence on the integral fruit quality, followed by phosphorus, potassium and calcium. The variable importance for projection (VlP) technology of PLS found that the mean fruit weight was primarily affected by nitro- gen, phosphorus and potassium, and the soluble solid was primarily affected by ni- trogen, calcium and iron, while the red color area was primarily affected by nitro- gen, potassium, calcium, iron and zinc. The regression equation between fruit quality and mineral element contents showed that the mean fruit weight had a greater pos- itive effect coefficient with the content of phosphorus and potassium, and a greater negative effect coefficient with the content of nitrogen in the fruit. Moreover, the sol- uble solid had the largest negative effect coefficient with nitrogen and largest posi- tive effect coefficient with calcium and iron in the fruit. [Conclusion] The maximum content of soluble solid and titratable acid were 1.5 times more than the minimum, and nitrogen, iron, zinc and boron were 6 times more than in the 'Fuji' apple fruit in the different produce regions. Therefore, it is a key technological measure to improve the overall qualities of the "Fuji' apple by decreasing the content of nitrogen, and increasing the contents of iron, phosphorus, potassium and calcium in the fruit. 展开更多

Effects of a Complex Amendment on the Quality of Cucumber Fruit under Cd Contamination Stress

Pot experiments were carried out to investigate the effects of a complex amendment on the soil organic matter content, pH, microbial quantity, Cd uptake and nutritional quality of the fruit of cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) planted in two levels (CdCl2·2.5H2O mg/kg and 4 mg/kg) of Cd-contaminated soil in which different concentrations of complex amendments (0, 600, 900, 1 200 mg/kg) were added. The results showed that when applying 1 200 mg/kg amendment, the organic mat-ter content, bacterial number and total microorganism amounts in 2 and 4 mg/kg Cd-contaminated soil increased by 23.17% and 32.89%, 87.61% and 96.02%, 59.95% and 55.81%, respectively. When 900 mg/kg amendment was applied, the fungi number in 2 and 4 mg/kg Cd-contaminated soil reached the maximum, in-creasing by 137.50% and 106.72% respectively. However, applying the amendment had no significant effect on the pH of soil. The security and nutritional quality of cu-cumber fruits were obviously improved comparing with control. The Cd content in cucumber fruits decreased by 31.40% and 24.35%, respectively, in 2 and 4 mg/kg Cd-contaminated soil. Furthermore, Vc, soluble sugar and soluble fixation content in cucumber fruits of 2 and 4 mg/kg Cd-contaminated soil went up by 25.00% and 91.42%, 37.03% and 27.06%, 14.29% and 58.80%, respectively. lt was indicated that the complex amendment can obviously improve the quality of cucumber fruit and thus can be used in the in situ_repair of Cd-contaminated soil. 展开更多

[Objective] The effects of special plant nutritional elements on honey pomelo fruits were investigated. [Method] After the honey pomelo flowers faded, the special plant nutritional elements (SPNE) were sprayed on the honey pomelo plants. After an interval of 20 d or more, the SPNE were sprayed again. A total of 4 times of spraying were carried out before the harvesting. Then difference in yield, quality, fruit weight, fruit appearance, ball weight and internal characteristics were compared between the SPNE treatment group and the control group. [Result] Compared to that of the control group, the fruit number per plant of the SPNE treatment group was more, and the average fruit weight was higher, resulting in the higher yield in the SPNE treatment group. At the same time, the vitamin C and soluble solids con- tent in honey pomelo fruits of the treatment group was higher than that of the con- trol group. The quality of honey pomelo fruits was higher in the SPNE treatment group. The honey pomelo fruits treated with SPNE were bigger, more shining and cleaner. The fruits in the treatment group had no scar, but had more beautiful shape. The exocarp of the treatment group was thinner than that of the control group. The ball weight of the treatment group was higher than that of the control group. Moreover, the ball appearance of the treatment group was cleaner. In the treatment group, the pulp segments were bigger and more consistent in size. In ad- dition, there were no internal cracks in the pulp segments. The fruits of the treat- ment group were more sparkling and more transparent. They tasted better. The results of grafting improvement and cultivation trials in the Yangtze River Delta of China showed that the rootstock cultivar had a great influence on plant growth and development, fruit yield and quality of "Spartan" blueberry. Among the seven rootstock-scion combinations, the northern highbush blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum) cultivar "Croaton'-'Spartan' combination showed well-healed graft unions, large branch amount, early fruit bearing, high yield, excellent fruit quality and almost no tillers. As a kind of rootstock, "Croaton' was better than non-grafted 'Spartan' and the two rabbiteye blueberry cultivars 'Premier' and 'Gardenblue'. The grafting pattern showed no significant stimulating effect on the plant growth and development, fruit yield and quality of 'Spartan' blueberry in this area, but the overall performance of greenwood cleft grafting was better than that of inlaid bud grafting. Suitable rootstock cultivar and grafting pattern significantly improve plant arowth and development, fruit vield and aualitv of 'Spartan' blueberry. 展开更多

[Method] The correlation between leaf shape and fruit quality of kiwi was studied during 2013-2015. ... [Objective] This study aimed to investigate the effect of leaf size on fruit quality of kiwi and relevant mechanism. [Method] The correlation between leaf shape and fruit quality of kiwi was studied during 2013-2015. [Result] The results of statistical analysis showed that the sing weight, longitudinal diameter, width, thickness, shape index and juice sugar content of fruit were 75.86±1.68 g, 73.284± 0.70 mm, 41.18±0.51 mm, 35.30±0.25 mm, 1.92±0.01 and (15.66±0.26)%, respec- tively; the length, width, shape index and area of leaf were 14.77±0.20 cm, 14.25± 0.16 cm, 0.94±0.09 and 152.39±3.26 cm^2, respectively; and the length and diameter of petiole were 11.03±0.25 cm and (31.50±0.79 mm)/10, respectively. The results of correlation analysis showed that the single fruit weight of kiwi was strongly positively related to fruit longitudinal diameter, fruit width, fruit thickness and leaf shape index, was significantly positively related to leaf length, was weakly positively related to petiole length, was positively related to leaf area, was weakly negatively related to leaf width and petiole diameter, and was negatively related to juice sugar content. The results of regression analysis showed that there was significant difference be- tween single fruit weight and juice sugar content (F=0.851 8, P〈0.01), instead of fruit longitudinal diameter (F=0.000 6, P〉0.05), fruit width (F=0.001 4, P〉0.05) and fruit thickness (F=0.005 4, P〉0.05); there was significant correlation between single fruit weight and leaf area (F=0.671 5, P〈0.01), instead of leaf length (F=0.139 3, P〉0.05), leaf width (F=0.358 5, P〉0.05) and leaf shape index (F=0.294 0, P〉0.05); there were significant correlations between juice sugar content and leaf length (F= 0.816 1, P〈0.01), leaf width (F=0.970 1, P〈0.01), leaf area (F=0.560 6, P〈0.01) and leaf shape index (F=0.885 1, P〈0.05). [Conclusion] Fruit single weight and oth- er quality properties could be predicted from leaf size, and leaf size can be used as the main basis for judging the quality of fruit. 展开更多

Tomato seedlings were grown in substrate culture with pots. The formulation of Holland Greenhouse Horticulture Research Institute was used(as CK) and the effects of different Ca concentrations(LCa, CK and HCa)on growth, yield, and fruit quality(protein, Vitamin C, nitrates, organic acid and soluble sugar) of tomato were studied keeping concentrations of other nutrients unchanged in the nutrient solution. The results showed that parameters related to the growth of tomato(plant height and Stem diameter), changes of tomato yield per plant and quality of tomato fruits were the highest when the plants were grown at 20% Ca treatments. In the second study, increased EC concentrations of nutrient solution resulted in stronger plants with improved yields and quality. Four different concentration gradients of nutrient solution treatment were designed based on the results of the first research stage(EC=1.5, 2.5, 3.5, 4.5 m S/cm, respectively). The single tomato plant had the highest production which is 2 268.994 g/plant, when the nutrient solution strength was at EC=1.5 m S cm, whereas they have the best fruit quality when the solution strength at EC 4.5 m S/cm. [Objective] This study aimed to investigate the improving effect of organic fertilizer on acidified soil as well as their effects on fruit quality and quantity in Yantai orchard.[Method] Plot experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of organic fertilizer on fruit yield and quality of Red Fuji and chemical properties of acidified soil.[Result] The apple yield in acidified soil applied with organic fertilizer all increased.Under the application of biological organic fertilizer,the apple yield was higher,and it was 8.92% higher than that in the control group.Under the mixed application of chemical fertilizer and biological organic fertilizer,the growth and development of apple trees were improved,and the total soluble solid(TSS) content,vitamin C(Vc) content and TSS-acid ratio in mature apples all increased.The application of organic fertilizer significantly reduced soil acidity.Compared with those in the control group,the soil p H value,organic matter content and alkali-hydrolyzable nitrogen content under the application of biological organic fertilizer were increased by 8.33%,15.10% and 30.80%,respectively.[Conclusion] The application of biological organic fertilizer could improve the yield of apple in acidified soil. 展开更多

[ Method] Opti- cal fiber spectrum was applied to determine the physiological radiation spectrum in different canopies of sweet cherry tree. The fruit quality in differ- ent canopies was determined. [Result] The results showed that from the top part to the lower part and from the outer part to inner part of sweet cherry canopy, Me physiological radiation intensity and ratio of short wave light reduced significantly, while ratio of long wave light increased. Fruit mass, Vc, TSS and total sugar content were significantly decreasing, while organic acid content increasing, but the fruit edible percent was similar. Furthermore, the physiological radiation intensity was strong, fruit mass, TSS, Vc and total sugar content increased, but organic acid content re- duced. [ Condusion] The higher and bigger canopy of sweet cherry, the poor and lower physiological radiation intensity, photosynthesis accumula- tion and fruit quality. Generally, the diameter of organic melon fruit relatively short (the fruit is small), weight of fruit just as big as 1.25-1.49 kg only, while weight of inorganic melon fruit can reach 2-3 kg. The research was conducted by experiment method with the aim to enhance quality of the organic melon fruit. Experiment I is: N, P and K fertilizer solution concentration as main plot (0, 20, 30, and 40 g L^-1) and dose of cow manure fertilizer as sub plot (0, 10, 15, and 20 ton hal) (there are 16 treatment combinations). Experiment II is kinds of dung as main plot (chicken, cow, and goat) and dose of fertilizer as sub plot (20, 25, and 30 ton hat) (there are 9 treatment combinations). Experiment III is dose of cow manure fertilizer as main plot (15, 20, 25, and 30 ton hal) and gibberellins concentration as sub plot (0, 30, 60, and 120 ppm) and (there are 16 treatment combinations). Each of the treatment combination replicated 3 times. The result showed that chicken, cow, and goats manure can be used in organic cultivation of melons, and cow manure has the highest potential. The role of the dose is relatively low in plant growth, but to improve the quality of fruit need dose of 10-15 tons hat. The addition of inorganic NPK fertilizer solution or use of gibberellins can increase growth and fruit quality of melon (the used of gibberellins are recommended). 展开更多

The results showed that the calcium concentration in leaves and shoots increased with fruit development. The cultivars displayed only a small difference in the calcium concentration during the early stage of development, the difference became very significant at the late stage of development, especially in shoots. In shoots, for example, calcium content was highest in Starkrimson (19 638.6 mg kg-1) and lowest in Fuji (8 751.3 mg kg-1). Calcium concentration was highest in young fruits and was found to decrease with the growth of fruit, and was characterized by a dramatic drop at the rapid expansion stage. There was a significant difference among cultivars. Young Starkrimson fruits contained the highest calcium concentration of 506.52 mg kg-1 among cultivars tested, followed by Pink Lady and Fuji. The calcium concentration in mature fruits from high to low is as follows: Starkrimson, Sansa, Pink Lady, Senshu, Gala, Fuji, Red General and New Century. In this study, it was found that eight cultivars continuously assimilated calcium during the whole growing season, especially at the young stage when fruit took up 35-46% of total calcium. The calcium content in fruitlets was low in all cultivars; in the expansion stage, there was rapid absorption of about 30% of total calcium, whereas in the ripening fruit, content of calcium was reduced. The calcium accumulation increased with fruit growth in stalk, similar to that in fruit. 展开更多

In order to choose main factors of soil nutrient affecting cherry tomato fruit quality, the soil nutrient content and total soluble solids (TSS) content of cherry tomato in different regions of Lingshui County in Hainan Province was determined, with Millennium cherry tomato as material. The results showed that the TSS content in mature cherry tomato fruit was extremely significant positive to available potassium and exchangeable calcium content in soil, with correlation coefficients of 0.587** and 0.514**, respectively. The TSS content was significant positive to zinc content, with a correlation coefficient of 0.324*, And the TSS content showed extremely significant negative to copper content with correlation coefficient of-0.613** and significant negative to sulfur content with a correlation coefficient reaching -0.332*. In certain range of contents, the quality of cherry tomato fruit in Lingshui County could be improved through increasing the content of available potassium, exchangeable calcium and zinc in soil, as well as control copper and sulfur content. 展开更多
