The results indicated that Hg was hardly transferable in purple soil. About 86%~88% of the total soil Hg was distributed in the top layer (0~2 cm) and no Hg was detected in the leakage when the purple soil column was leached by deionized water and simulated acid rain. But Hg was more movable in yellow soil with only about 20%~22% of the total soil Hg distributed in the top layer (0~2 cm), and about 17%~25% washed out from the soil column by deionized water and simulated acid rain. Increment in soil bulk density could reduce Hg leaching, thus the more the Hg kept in soil, the less the Hg leached into underground water. Deionized water and acid rain almost played the same role in leaching Hg. Bentonite was most efficient in preventing Hg from vertical transferring in the soil column.展开更多

Dilution test was used to measure antibacterial activity of N. oculata extracts. Antioxidant activity of extracts was expressed by levels of MDA (Malondialdehyde) and SOD (superoxide dismutase) in the brain and kidneys of fish. Antiviral capability of N. oculata was determined by the expression of cellular immune cells Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) Class I for proliferation and inhibition of VNN in blood cells with immunocytochemistry. The results showed that N. oculata extract was able to suppress the growth of V. alginolyticus at a concentration of 40%. Increasing levels of SOD and reducing level of MDA indicated that N. oculata extracts may serve as an antibacterial and antioxidant. Providing cellular response of MHC class I cell expressed on C. altive/is blood cells, N. oculata demonstrated its antiviral activity.展开更多

Shrimps samples were collected from 12 farms in Zhejiang province,China,in 2008 and analyzed by PCR to determine the prevalence of these viruses. From the 12 sampling locations,8 farms were positive for WSSV,8 for IHHNV and 6 for both WSSV and IHHNV. An average percentage of 57.4% of shrimp individuals were infected with WSSV,while 49.2% were infected with IHHNV. A high prevalence of co-infection with WSSV and IHHNV among samples was detected from the following samples:Bingjiang (93.3%),liuao (66.7%),Jianshan (46.7%) and Xianxiang (46.7%). No samples exhibited evidence of infection with TSV in collected samples. This study provides comprehensive information of the prevalence of three shrimp viruses in Zhejiang and may be helpful for disease prevention control in this region.展开更多

In this work, a novel C-type lectin gene (named LvLecl) was cloned from the shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei, The ORF of LvLecl is 510 bp, encoding 169 amino acids. The deduced amino acid sequence contains a putative signal peptide of 19 amino acids at the N-terminal and a carbohydrate recognition domain (CRD) at the C-terminal. LvLecl was mainly expressed in the hepatopancreas. Real-time PCR analysis indicated that the level of LvLecl transcripts significantly changed in the hepatopancreas after the shrimp were artificially challenged with LPS, Micrococcus lysodeikticus and white spot syndrome virus (WSSV). RNAi-based silencing of LvLecl resulted in increases in mortality when the shrimp were challenged with WSSV, and the median lethal time was reduced compared with controls. Although there was no characteristic "EPN" (Glu-Pro-Ser) or "QPD" (Gin-Pro-Asp) motif, the recombinant LvLecl, expressed in Escherichia coli BL21 (DE3), could also agglutinate M. lysodeikticus and Vibrio anguillarum. The agglutinating activities were calcium-dependent and could be inhibited by D-mannose, D-glucose, D-galactose and N-Acetyl-D-mannose. These results suggest that LvLecl might be involved in the immune response against WSSV and bacterial infections and contribute to non-self recognition as a pattern recognition receptor in the innate immune system of the shrimp L. vannamei.展开更多

In giant tiger prawn (Penaeus monodon) aquaculture, diseases caused by viruses such as white spot syndrome virus (WSSV) and bacteria such as Vibrio have become a menace. Appropriate treatments of prawn culture pond's waters are advocated for preventing and controlling pathogens. The purpose of this study was to conduct an antimicrobial water treatment using a low-voltage pulsed electric field sterilization. Here we prepared a mechanical low-voltage pulsed electric field system with copper wire coiling around a titanium ring. The viability of WSSV in seawater was examined by prawn infectivity experiments. We inoculated healthy prawns (approximately 10-15 g) with the WSSV master sample that passed 0-3 times through the system. WSSV infection in prawns decreased according to the number of passes through the system. Healthy prawns survived for〉 10 days without feeding, where as prawns inoculated with the WSSV master sample showed symptoms of white spot and died in about 4 days. Two-thirds of the prawns inoculated with the WSSV master sample that was passed once through the system developed WSSV symptoms and were polymerase chain reaction (PCR) positive. However, no symptoms were observed and prawns were PCR negative when the WSSV master sample was passed three times through the system. Based on these results, we purpose that a low-voltage pulsed electric field system will serve as an efficient pond drainage sterilization system and will replace conventional treatments using chemicals such as sodium hypochlorite.展开更多

Unfortunately, the time of flight(TOF) in RBSPICE measurement is turned off below 3 RE, and the ion measurement is contaminated by electrons. Thus in this study we studied the differences between the ion and electron zebra stripe structures and their time evolution using simple theory and test particle simulation, combining the electron measurement from RBSIPICE onboard Van Allen Probes. Theoretical analysis predicts that the ion zebra stripe structures should lie at a higher energy range than the corresponding electron zebra stripe structures due to that the directions of gradient B drift and corotation E×B drift are the same for electrons while opposite for ions. Test particle simulation with the dipole magnetic field and Volland-Stern electric field model have shown that the ion and electron zebra stripe structures could be produced by the convection electric field penetrating into the inner magnetosphere in this event, with their time evolution determined by total drift velocity that are different for ions and electrons. The predicted differences between the ion and electron zebra stripe structures are partially verified through observation. The ion zebra stripe structures could have potential influence to the ring current.展开更多
