The operation is to remove part of vertebral lamina and release the pressure on the spinal nerve. Because many important vessels and nerves are under the vertebral lamina, any incorrect operation may cause irreparable damage to patients. To improve the safety of lamina milling task, a fuzzy force control strategy is proposed in this paper. Primary experiments have been conducted on bone samples from different animals. The results show that, with the fuzzy force control strategy, the bone milling system can recognize all surgery states and halt the tool at the proper location, achieving satisfactory surgery performance.展开更多

Retrospective clinical and roentgenograph review of 21 patients who suffered fr...To observe the clinical outcomes of using a new instrumentation SOCON system in the treatment of degenerative spondylolisthesis. Methods. Retrospective clinical and roentgenograph review of 21 patients who suffered from degenerative spondylolisthesis with spinal stenosis treated by decompression, posterolateral intertransverse arthrodesis, and with transpedicle instrumentation of SOCON system. Results.Nineteen of 21 patients were completely recovery from their preoperative symptoms, 17 of 18 cases with grade one slippage reduced to normal spine alignment, 2 cases of grade two slippage fully reduced, and one case of grade two spondylolisthesis got 70% reduction. Post operative satisfactory rate was 90.5%. Pain relief was 90.5%. Neither infection nor neurologic complication occurred in this series. Conclusion. Our short time followup and limited cases showed satisfactory preliminary result of surgical treatment of spondylolisthesis with SOCON instrumentation.展开更多
The anthropogenic CO column content in the atmosphere is derived from measurements with infrared grating spectrometers in Beijing,China,and Moscow,Russia,during 1992–2012.Some specific variation characteristics and l...The anthropogenic CO column content in the atmosphere is derived from measurements with infrared grating spectrometers in Beijing,China,and Moscow,Russia,during 1992–2012.Some specific variation characteristics and long-term variation trends of the CO column content in the atmosphere in these regions are discussed.An evident variation trend of anthropogenic CO in the atmosphere for the Beijing region is not observed during 1992–2012,while for the Moscow region,it decreases yearly by about 1.4% for the same period.High CO concentrations appear quite frequently in Beijing,but much less frequently in Moscow,except during the natural fire events in summer 2010.From back trajectory analysis,the high CO concentration observed in Beijing can be attributed to the intensive CO emission sources in its surrounding areas.展开更多

METHODS: Nine hundred and twenty-four caes of scoliosis were reviewed, and the clinical data of 15 cases of postoperative in...OBJECTIVE: To discuss the causes and treatments of wound infections after scoliosis surgery. METHODS: Nine hundred and twenty-four caes of scoliosis were reviewed, and the clinical data of 15 cases of postoperative infection were analysed retrospectively. RESULTS: All 15 cases underwent spinal posterior fusion with autologous bone graft using instrumentations. Seven were diagnosed as early infection, and 8 were delayed infection. Radical debridement was performed in all 15 cases. The duration of antibiotics administration was 10 to 34 days with continuous closed irrigation for 2 to approximately 4 weeks and primary closure for the wounds. All patients were followed up for an average of 3.5 years (2 to 7.5 years) with good outcomes and no recurrence. CONCLUSION: Wound infection following surgical correction of scoliosis primarily results from intraoperative seeding, although host-related and operation-related factors may contribute to its development. Once the infections are diagnosed, good results can be achieved by prompt surgical debridement, irrigation and reasonably administered antibiotics. Removal of hardware may be necessary in deep infections.展开更多
Objective:To introduce a key-vertebral-screws technique(KVST) in the surgical treatment of scoliosis extending to main thoracic levels, and to find the role of fulcrum bending in predicting the result of surgical trea...Objective:To introduce a key-vertebral-screws technique(KVST) in the surgical treatment of scoliosis extending to main thoracic levels, and to find the role of fulcrum bending in predicting the result of surgical treatment for scoliosis by this technique. Methods: Seventeen consecutive patients with scoliosis extending to main thoracic spine,who underwent pure posterior fusion without anterior or posterior release by KVST between January 2004 and July 2005 were evaluated for fulcrum bending flexibility, surgical correction rate, fulcrum bending correction index (FBCI) in main thoracic curves. Universal Spine System (USS) instrumentation was used in 15 cases,Monarch in another 2 cases. The severity of the curves was measured by Cobb's method using Rad Work 6. 0 software. Preoperative standing AP radiographs, preoperative fulcrum bending anterioposterior (AP) radiographs, postoperative standing AP radiographs, and most recent follow-up standing AP radiographs for spine were measured and recorded. All the data were analyzed with two-sample paired t-test by Origin 7. 0 software. Results: Infection and neurological complications were not noted. No major complications were found. Just one case had some axial back pain, which got a full recovery from physiotherapy for 2 weeks. In the X-ray, there was an average correction of 71. 5% of the fused main thoracic curves, which had no significant lose of correction in final follow-up. For the whole fused main thoracic curves, the fulcrum bending flexibility were lower to operation correction rate (P = 0. 013). The average FBCI was 123%. From the data, the more rigid curves (especially fulcrum bending flexibility <50%), the more correction rate operation could get, compared with fulcrum bending flexibility. Conclusion: (1) KVST is a good method in the surgical treatment of thoracic scoliosis, which can get satisfying result with lower medical cost. (2) Fulcrum bending flexibility is lower than operative correction rate by KVST in main thoracic curves (P<0. 05). In the more rigid curves assessed by fulcrum-bending radiograph, the operative corrective could be gained, especially in the curves which FBCI is lower than 50%.展开更多

Methods: 24 patients who u...Objective: To determine the effectiveness of posterior Moss-Miami transpedicular system for the treatment of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis in 24 patients with a 2-year minimum follow-up. Methods: 24 patients who underwent operations between September 2002 and November 2003 were evaluated for curve correction, spinal balance, and complications. Age at surgery averaged 13.8 years (range from 10 to 20). The spinal deformities were evaluated by Cobb method with anteroposterior and lateral bending radiographs. All patients were right thoracic curves. Posterior instrumentation (Moss-Miami transpedicular system) was used. The transpedicular screws were placed between T2 and L2. All the patients were assessed both clinically and radiographically. Follow-up averaged 2.8 years. Results: There was an average correction of 72% of the primary curve (pre-operation standing average 54 degrees (range from 40 to 67 degrees), post-operation average 15.2 degrees (range from 2 to 27 degrees), at last examination average 16.1 degrees (range from 2 to 30 degrees). Infection and neurological complications were not noted. No major complications were observed. Conclusions: Frontal and sagittal thoracic curve correction of thoracic scoliosis can be satisfactorily obtained using Moss Miami transpedicular instrumentation. It seems that control of the three columns of the spine by the transpedicular screws offers sufficient apical translation and coronal realignment.展开更多
