Since phased array techniques are now widely employed for industrial non-destructive testing (NDT) applications in various fields, the problem of phase aberrations in the process of NDT testing is considered. The technique of cross-covariance for phase aberration correction is presented. The performance of the technique for phase aberration correction is tested by means of echo signals obtained in practical non-destructive testing experiment. Simulation of liquid-gas flow in full-scale Caroussel oxidation ditch with surface aeration

A model for liquid-gas flow (MLGF), considering the flee movement of liquid surface, was built to simulate the wastewater velocity field and gas distribution in a full-scale Caroussel oxidation ditch with surface aeration. It was calibrated and validated by field measurement data, and the calibrated parameters and sections were selected based on both model analysis and numerical computation. The simulated velocities of MLGF were compared to that of a model for wastewater-sludge flow (MWSF). The results show that the free liquid surface considered in MLGF improves the simulated velocity results of upper layer and surface. Moreover, distribution of gas volume fraction (GVF) simulated by MLGF was compared to dissolved oxygen (DO) measured in the oxidation ditch. It is shown that DO distribution is affected by many factors besides GVF distribution. 展开更多

When X-ray fluorescence (XRF) technology is used to measure the sulfur concentration in coal online, the measurement accu- racy is affected by the coal's uneven surface and the particle size. In order to improve the accuracy of sulfur concentration measurement, an online measurement system, consisting of a portable X-ray fluorescence instrument and an auxiliary distance correction module, was developed in this paper. By measuring the standard coal samples of known sulfur concentration, we obtained a calibration curve that can be used to analyze the sulfur concentration. We studied the relationship between the X-ray fluorescence intensity (I) and the distance (D) from surfaces to instrument. The results showed that there was a good linear re- lationship between 1 and D when the sulfur content was certain. Based on these knowledge, the distance correction formula of X-ray fluorescence intensity was proposed. By applying the distance correction formula to experimental sulfur concentration measurement, we demonstrated that the measurement accuracy can be significantly increased. 展开更多

Effects of polarization calibration on aerosol optical depth retrieval: An ocean case sensitivity analysis 被引量:1

Reflectance measurements of both the visible and infrared bands of passive remote sensing sensors are widely used to retrieve aerosol optical depth(AOD) information. This is performed commonly for data obtained over both ocean and land, and these measurements allow for the off line development of a lookup table using radiative transfer models. Owing to molecular and aerosol effects, the reflected light received by the sensor is usually highly polarized. The linear polarization effect may be up to 100%, and the polarization factor of a sensor optical system will change the total intensity as well as the polarization status of the signal reaching the detector. The detector response will be different when the incident light polarization status changes, even if the total intensity remains constant. However, if the polarization calibration is neglected, it will cause obvious errors in the aerosol data retrieval. This is especially true for aerosol optical depth retrieval over an ocean. This measurement relies directly on the reflectance output of the sensor. Cases involving land surfaces are not discussed herein because the inhomogeneous properties conceal the error due to polarization. Taking the 550 and 860 nm bands as examples, the difference between the real top-of-atmosphere(TOA) reflectance and the reflectance reaching the detector is calculated using three different sensor polarization standards according to the Sea-viewing Wide Field-of-view Sensor(Sea Wi FS) and Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer(MODIS) standards. The differences in AOD retrieval are also demonstrated using the lookup table developed previously from a vector radiative transfer code. The results reveal that under a normal situation in which the AOD is 0.15, the maximum AOD retrieval error could reach 0.04 in 550 nm but only 0.02 in 860 nm for the dust aerosol model. For the soot aerosol model, the maximum AOD retrieval error is 0.1 in 550 nm and 0.12 in 860 nm, indicating that the lack of polarization calibration will lead to large errors in aerosol retrieval over an ocean. 展开更多
