The most important factor in reserve estimation is the metal price. Metal price fluctuations in recent years were exaggerated, and imposed a high degree of uncertainty to the reserve estimation, and in consequence to the whole mine planning procedure. Real option approach is an efficient method of decision making in the uncertain conditions. This approach has been used for evaluation of defined natural resources projects until now. This study considering the metal price uncertainty used real option approach to prepare a methodology for reserve estimation in open pit mines. This study was done on a copper cylindrical deposit, but the achieved methodology can be adjusted for all kinds of deposits. This methodology was comprehensively described through the examples in such a manner that can be used by the mine planners. 展开更多

In order to effectively avoid the defects of a traditional discounted cash flow method, a trinomial tree pricing model of the real option is improved and used to forecast the investment price of mining. Taking Molybdenum ore as an example, a theoretical model for the hurdle price under the optimal investment timing is constructed. Based on the example data, the op- tion price model is simulated. By the model, mine investment price can be computed and forecast effectively. According to the characteristics of mine investment, cut-off grade, reserve estimation and mine life in different price also can be quantified. The result shows that it is reliable and practical to enhance the accuracy for mining investment decision. 展开更多

In the last 50 years,the methodology of large-eddy simulation(LES)has been greatly developed,while lots of different subgridscale(SGS)models have appeared.However,the understanding of the procedure of SGS modeling is still not clear.The present contribution aims at reviewing the recent SGS models and,more importantly,expressing our recent understanding on the SGS modeling of LES in physical space.Taking the Kolmogorov equation for filtered quantities(KEF)as an example,it is argued that the KEF alone is not enough to be a closure method.Three physical laws are then introduced to complete this closure procedure and are expected to inspire the future researches of SGS modeling. 展开更多

Transports of air particulate matters(PM) from face sources in the atmospheric boundary layer(ABL) are investigated by the Eulerian single fluid model and the Lagrangian trajectory method,respectively.Large eddy simulation is used to simulate the fluid phase for high accuracy in both two approaches.The mean and fluctuating PM concentrations,as well as instantaneous PM distributions at different downstream and height positions,are presented.Higher mean and fluctuating particle concentrations are predicted by the Eulerian approach than the Lagrangian one.For the Lagrangian method,PM distributions cluster near the ground-wall because of the preferential dispersion of inertial particles by turbulence structures in the ABL,while it cannot be obtained by the Eulerian single fluid method,because the two-phase velocity differences are neglected in the Eulerian method. 展开更多

The NSFD scheme is able to give positive numerical solutions that satisfy the conservation law, which is a key property for biological population models. The accuracy is improved by using the composition methods with complex time steps. Numerical tests on the plankton nutrient model and whooping cough model are presented to show the efficiency and advantage of the proposed numerical method. 展开更多

Influence of wall motion on particle sedimentation using hybrid LB-IBM scheme

We integrate the lattice Boltzmann method(LBM) and immersed boundary method(IBM) to capture the coupling between a rigid boundary surface and the hydrodynamic response of an enclosed particle laden fluid. We focus on a rigid box filled with a Newtonian fluid where the drag force based on the slip velocity at the wall and settling particles induces the interaction. We impose an external harmonic oscillation on the system boundary and found interesting results in the sedimentation behavior. Our results reveal that the sedimentation and particle locations are sensitive to the boundary walls oscillation amplitude and the subsequent changes on the enclosed flow field. Two different particle distribution analyses were performed and showed the presence of an agglomerate structure of particles. Despite the increase in the amplitude of wall motion, the turbulence level of the flow field and distribution of particles are found to be less in quantity compared to the stationary walls. The integrated LBM-IBM methodology promised the prospect of an efficient and accurate dynamic coupling between a non-compliant bounding surface and flow field in a wide-range of systems. Understanding the dynamics of the fluid-filled box can be particularly important in a simulation of particle deposition within biological systems and other engineering applications. 展开更多
