It is shown that the composition of η phase in the core zone is Co_3W_3C (M_6 C type). The structure of cobalt based solid solution binder phase is fcc type. At the cooling stage of the sintering process, the phase transition of η phase, i.e. M_6C→M_12C and the martensitic phase transition of the cobalt based solid solution binder phase, i.e. fcc→hcp are suppressed, which facilitates the strengthening of the alloy. Because the instantaneous temperature of the discharge channel is as high as 10 000 ℃ during the wire cutting process, the processed surface is oxidized. Nevertheless, the oxide layer thickness is in micro grade. In the oxide film, η phase is decomposed into W_2C and CoO, and cobalt based solid solution binder is selectively oxidized, while WC remains stable due to the existence of carbon containing liquid organic cutting medium.展开更多

The alloy was sintered with layered powder of different oxygen contents via vacuum sintering and spark plasma sintering(SPS), respectively. After subsequent heat treatments, high-throughput characterizations of the microstructures and mechanical properties by localized measurements were conducted. The Ti-7% Mo(molar fraction) alloy with an oxygen content ranging from 1.3×10^(-3) to 6.2×10^(-5)(mass fraction) was obtained, and the effects of oxygen on the microstructural evolution and mechanical properties were studied. The results show that SPS is an effective way for fabricating fully dense Ti alloy with a compositional gradient. The average width of α′ phase coarsens with the increase of the content of oxygen. The content of α″ martensitic phase also increases with the content of oxygen. At oxygen contents of 3×10^(-3) and 4×10^(-3)(mass fraction), the Ti alloys present the lowest microhardness and the lowest elastic modulus, respectively. The results also indicate that the martensitic phases actually decrease the hardness of Ti-7Mo alloy, and oxygen effectively hardens the alloy by solid solution strengthening. Therefore, the high-throughput characterization on a microstructure with a gradient content of oxygen is an effective method for rapidly evaluating the composition–property relationship of titanium alloys.展开更多

The theoretical model based on dynamic flow resistivity is selected to calculate the sound absorption coefficient of the sintered metal fiber felts since it only requires three key morphological parameters: fiber diameter, porosity and layer thickness. The model predictions agree well with experimental measurements. Objective functions and constraint conditions are then set up to optimize separately the distribution of porosity, fiber diameter, and simultaneous porosity and fiber diameter in the metal fiber. The optimization problem for either a sole frequency or a pre-specified frequency range is solved using a genetic algorithm method. Acoustic performance comparison between optimized and non-optimized metal fibers is presented to confirm the effectiveness of the optimization method. Gradient sintered metal fiber felts hold great potential for noise control applications particularly when stringent restriction is placed on the total volume and/or weight of sound absorbing material allowed to use.展开更多
