The Earth is a very resourceful form of energy, using the natural solar energy collection and heat storage capabilities as an infinite heat source/heat sink at the base of permeable pavements, which can provide excellent temperature gradients for GHP's. Experimental rigs were setup up at The University of Edinbttrgh for a combined permeable pavement and GHP system. At the base of a pavement structure (approximately 1 meter) below the ground's surface, temperatures are constant of 10℃ in the U.K all year round. The GHP performance efficiency was analysed by the coefficient of performance (COP) in a heating cycle and the energy efficiency ratio (EER) in a cooling cycle. The mean COP and EER for both systems averaged between 2-4.5 and 3-5 respectively. The combined GHP and pavement structure operated at an optimum efficiency for both heating and cooling cycles and has shown to be unaffected by higher summer or lower winter temperatures. This hybrid system is an attractive renewable energy technology and has additional environmental benefits such as urban runoff reuse and recycling.展开更多

We present MGRP, a Multi-Gradient Routing Protocol for wireless sensor networks, which is fully distributed and efficiently supports endto-end, one-to-many and many-to-one traffic patterns by effectively construct and maintain a gradient vector for each node. We further combine neighbor link estimation with routing information to reduce packet exchange on network dynamics and node failures. We have implemented MGRP on Tiny OS and evaluated its performance on real-world testbeds. The result shows MGRP achieves lower end-to-end packet delay in different traffic patterns compared to the state of the art routing protocols while still remains high packet delivery ratio.展开更多

Most CFMEs measure friction in the slip ratio range of 10% to 18%. In this range, it is shown that the friction versus slip speed of these devices are mainly determined by the coupled properties of the surface micro-texture and relevant tire properties and to a minimal extent only by pavement macro-texture properties. The determinacy of low slip ratio friction measurements on the macro-textural features of the pavement surface are shown to be so low that they are inadequate to capture macro-texture caused speed degradation of friction. It is also shown in the paper that close to 100% slip ratio measurements at a relatively wide speed scale or direct macro texture measurements are needed to adequately determine the speed gradient if friction caused by the pavement macro-texture. The data and analysis in this paper provide strong and compelling evidence that the EFI (European Friction Index) or EFI developed by the HERMES (Harmonization of European Routine and Research Measuring Equipment for Skid Resistance) project sponsored by FEHRL (Forum of European National Highway Research Laboratories) is strongly affected by the lack of consideration of this phenomenon. It is recommended that the results of the HERMES project are reviewed taking into account the findings of the present paper. Based on the results of the presented paper it is suggested that CFME's only measure friction at a fixed speed with a standard tire and use a macro-texture measuring device to obtain the pavement speed gradient.展开更多

It is analyzed what is the reasonable number of n circuits and the number of blocks composed by parallel resistor and inductor in parallel for reduction of numerical oscillations. It is simulated the numerical routine with and without the effectof frequency in the longitudinal parameters.
