We described a 35-year-old man who was found swelling in the left neck accidently, and no clinic evidences. A left total and right subtotal thyroidectomy and neck lymph nodes dissection were done. Lymph nodes metastasis was not shown. Postoperative of four months, computerized tomography scan liver showed multiple focal lesion. Microscopic examination showed that abundant melanin pigmentation was observed in many of tumor cells. Tumor cells were diffusely immunopositive for vimentin, CK, CgA, syn, CEA, Calcitonin, HMB45, S-100 and negative for TG, TTF-1. Melanotic medullary carcinoma is very rare. It is necessary to report more cases for exact biological behavior and prognosis.展开更多

The problems associated with depression in Japan have been influenced by the pharmaceuticalization of mental health. Since selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors were introduced to Japan's pharmaceutical market in 1999, demand for anti-depressant medications has rapidly expanded. It seems likely then that the efforts of pharmaceutical companies, as part of their marketing strategies, to increase people's awareness of mental illness have led people who are not actually depressed to have medical consultations and drug treatments for it. This phenomenon is known as "disease mongering" and has been reported on. Problems exist from the medical perspective also and include the following: expansion of the diagnostic criteria for depression as formulated in the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders; treatments that rely heavily on drugs; and biomedicalization. Another reason for the increase in medical consultations is the declining function of communal bodies. This has resulted in individuals struggling psychologically, for example, with anxiety, worry, and depression. In summary, this sociological research analyzed the problems of depression in |apan and revealed how the pharmaceuticalization of mental health accelerates the individualization of social problem.展开更多

It argues that the conflicts between them arise from the state intentions of marginalizing and eliminating the socialist past embedded in the older generation mothers. Locating these contrasts into historical specificies, it illustrates that the distinctions imposed by the state to grouping and categorizing its national subjects are in fact discursively produced through people's everyday life by evoking both their desires and fears. It further suggests that as subjected bodies, no matter how unevenly they were, they all subvert the authorities in one way or another.展开更多

Because faces are arguably the most important social stimuli that we encounter in everyday life, investigating the ability of individuals with ASD to process faces is thought to be important for understanding the nature of ASD. However, although a considerable body of evidence suggests that ASD individuals show specific impairments in face processing, a significant number of studies argue otherwise. Through a literature review, we found that this controversy is largely attributable to the different face tests used across different studies. Therefore, a more reliable and valid face test is needed. To this end, we performed a meta-analysis on data gleaned from a variety of face tests conducted on individuals with developmental prosopagnosia(DP) who suffer a selective deficit in face processing. Based on this meta-analysis, we selected an old/new face recognition test that relies on face memory as a standard diagnostic test for measuring specific face processing deficits. This test not only reliably reflects DP individuals' subjective experiences with faces in their daily lives, but also effectively differentiates deficits in face processing from deficits caused by other general problems. In addition, DP individuals' performance in this test predicts their performance in a variety of face tests that examine specific components of face processing(e.g., holistic processing of faces). Finally, this test can be easily administrated and is not overly sensitive to prior knowledge. In summary, this test can be used to evaluate face-processing ability, and it helped to resolve the controversy whether individuals with ASD exhibit face-processing deficits.展开更多
