Methods: Electrochemiluminescence technique was used to examine the serum CA125 concentration of 58 cases with metastatic bladder cancer. 30 cases of superficial bladder cancer and 8 cases of other urological diseases were collected as the control group. Results: Serum CA125 level in 39 (67.2%) out of 58 cases ranged from 36.7 U/mL to 1485.6 U/mL (mean 496.3 U/mL), being higher than normal (〈 35 U/mL). Serum CA125 level of metastatic bladder cancer patients was 324.5 U/mL, significantly higher than that in control group (P 〈 0.001). Serum CA125 level of 10 patients after transurethral resection operation was significantly lower than that before operation (P 〈 0.05). Serum CA125 level of 16 patients who refused further treatment significantly increased from 450.4 U/mL, to 505.8 U/mL (P = 0.041) 3 months after discharge from the hospital. Serum CA125 level of 17 patients significantly decreased from 475.8 U/L to 237.9 U/mL (P 〈 0.001 ) after bilateral iliac-artedal embolism treatment. Conclusion: CA125 may be a valuable marker for the judgment of advanced metastatic bladder cancer.展开更多

It is recognized by two main characteristics: absence of HBsAg, and low viral replication. The previous two decades have witnessed a remarkable progress in our understanding of OBI and its clinical implications. Appropriate diagnostic techniques must be adopted. Sensitive HBV DNA amplification assay is the gold standard assay for detection of OBI. Viral as well as host factors are implicated in the pathogenesis of OBI. However, published data reporting the infectivity of OBI by transfusion are limited. Several aspects including OBI transmission, infectivity and its relation to the development of chronic liver diseases and hepatocellular carcinoma have to be resolved. The aim of the present review is to highlight recent data on OBI with a focus on its virological diagnosis and clinical outcome.展开更多

METHODS:Western blotting was performed to quantify the elF4E protein expression in the normal human liver cell line L02 and the hepatoma cell lines Hep3B, HepG2,and Huh7.Forty-six hepatocellular carcinoma samples with complete clinical data were obtained from Changzheng Hospital during the period of December 2008 to July 2009.The expression of eIF4E in the tumor samples and their adjacent tissues were detected by immunohistochemistry. The relationship between the test results and hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) prognosis was statistically analysed by using a COX proportional hazard model. RESULTS:Western blotting analysis showed that there were distinct eIF4E protein bands in all three of the hepatoma cell lines. In particular, the HepG2 cell line had the highest level of eIF4E protein expression. The L02 cell group had a low eIF4E expression.Immunohistochemical assay showed that there were 32 cases in which the tumour tissue expression was higher than their adjacent tissues, accounting for 69.57%.There were also 14 cases in which the tumour tissue expression was lower or no significant difference was found, accounting for 30.43%.COX proportional hazards model analysis showed that HCC prognosis was related to the depth of invasion, the overexpression of eIF4E and p53, possibly as independent HCC prognostic predictors. CONCLUSION:In summary,eIF4E expression is associated with liver cancer, and patients with high eIF4E expression levels have a higher risk of recurrence.展开更多

Clinical studies have revealed that the presence of CTCs in peripheral blood is correlated with disease progression in lung cancer. However, as CTCs are rare cancer cells released from tumors into the bloodstream, both enrichment and sensitive detection methods are technically challenging. In order to best understand how CTCs are currently being deployed, this review mainly focuses on the different detection methods for CTCs. Furthermore, we will describe the clinical impact of circulating tumor cells in lung cancer and discuss their potential use as biomarker to guide the prognosis.展开更多
