This structure is also used as a compensation space during blasting. In the process of underground mining in the fragment orebody, it is important and critical to analyze the stability and blockage of the three-dimensional wedges created around the undercut space. The wedge stability is mainly controlled by factors including geometry (i.e., the size, shape and spatial location of the wedge and undercut), the strength (shear and tensile) of the discontinuities that created the wedge, and the stress distribution within the rock mass. The Unwedge software was used to conduct the orthogonal simulation tests (three factors and five levels) that considered different cross sections, trends, and plunges of the undercut space. The results demonstrate that the control value of the safety factor of wedge is set to be 1.2. The optimal parameters are determined in the undercut space, such as the blasting fragmentation, orientation of the fluid flow, and the equipment gradeability;the wedge stability can be evaluated in the light of the block images and continuous falling;the stability of the key block meets the needs of the undercut space, the parameters gained are reasonable and optimal. Cross section is 27°, trend is from 315°to 325°(it is 320°at in-suit test) and plunge is 5°.展开更多

Six kinds of specimens with different interfaces were investigated by wedge splitting method. Double-K fracture parameters (initial fracture parameter and unsteady fracture parameter) were calculated by the concrete double-K fracture theory. It is indicated that the approach of construction joint or old joint after RCC final set is the most efficient among the six cases, and its fracture parameter is the largest among them. Its propagation path is sinuous. Its failure surface is scraggly. Bedding plane crack fails at the underside of the concrete surface, bond course or the surface between them for each approach. So disturbance on the underside of the concrete surface should be avoided or decreased at best during RCC construction.展开更多

Two mixes are based on optimization of HPC whereas the third mix was a commercial mix developed by CONTEC ApS (Denmark). The wedge splitting test setup with 48 cubical specimens was used experimentally and the cracked non-linear hinge model based on the fictitious crack model was applied for the interpretation of the results. The stress-crack opening relationships were extracted by using inverse analysis algorithm for various multi-linear softening curves. This showed that the refinement of the softening curves reflects in improved accuracy of the WST (wedge splitting test) simulation in comparison with bi-linear softening curves with acceptable increase of computational time. Furthermore, the fracture mechanics parameters such as COD (crack opening displacement), fracture energy and characteristic length were experimentally determined. Experiments were performed at 1, 3, 7 and 28 days. Fracture energy, Gf, was found to increase with age, while the characteristic length, Lch, was found to decrease.展开更多

This is a high velocity injury fracture and can be caused by forcible plantar flexion and inversion of the foot at the time of impact onto the ground. Here we reported such a case in a 35-year-old male patient who was treated by open reduction and fixation with a partially threaded screw and two K-wires for the navicular bone, and two interfragmentary screws with a one third tubular plate for the lateral malleolus. K-wires were removed 6 weeks after surgery followed by partial weight bearing. After 6 months, the patient can walk normally with minimal pain and swelling of the foot.展开更多

The corresponding analytical method to predict the instability state was proposed. In this model, the initial toughness was adopted as the crack propagation criterion and the weight function method was used to calculate the stress intensity factor and the crack opening displacement caused by the cohesive stress. The unstable toughness can be easily obtained using the proposed method without measuring parameters at the critical state that was necessary in traditional methods. The proposed method was verified by existing experimental data of wedge splitting specimens with different grades of concrete and the sensitivity of the results on the tensile softening curve was discussed. The results demonstrate that the proposed method can well predict the peak load, the critical effective crack length, and the unstable toughness of concrete specimens. Moreover, the calculated unstable toughness is not sensitive to the tensile softening curve.展开更多
