Korea imports about 97% of its energy resources as its available energy resources are extremely limited. Thus, the role of nuclear power in electricity generation is expected to become more important in future years. ...Korea imports about 97% of its energy resources as its available energy resources are extremely limited. Thus, the role of nuclear power in electricity generation is expected to become more important in future years. A fast reactor system is one of the most promising options for electricity generation with an efficient utilization of uranium resources and a reduction of radioactive wastes. Based on the experiences gained during the development of the conceptual designs for KALIMER (Korea advanced liquid metal reactor), the KAERI (Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute) is currently developing advanced SFR (sodium cooled fast reactor) design concepts that can better meet the Gen IV (Generation IV) technology goals. The long-term advanced SFR development plan will be carried out toward the construction of an advanced SFR demonstration plant by 2028. Advanced concept design studies and the development of the advanced SFR technologies necessary for its commercialization and basic key technologies carried out by KAERI are included in this paper.展开更多

At first, a short description of previous "generations" of jet fighter is given, introducing the interest that has always been originated by the concept of"light fighter" for every of the first four fighter generations. The derivation of the first idea of a new 5th generation light fighter is then described. Then to further investigate the feasibility of idea, a conceptual design study has been driven up by utilizing peculiar tools, both for quantitative and qualitative (i.e., the aircraft layout definition) evaluations. With the further support of preliminary study of subsystems, the result shows the feasibility of the concept.展开更多

As this hybrid system is a conceptual design, many uncertainties involving inp...Solid oxide fuel cell–proton exchange membrane(SOFC–PEM) hybrid system is being foreseen as a valuable alternative for power generation. As this hybrid system is a conceptual design, many uncertainties involving input values should be considered at the early stage of process optimization. We present in this paper a generalized framework of multi-objective optimization under uncertainty for the synthesis/design optimization of the SOFC–PEM hybrid system. The framework is based on geometric, economic and electrochemical models and focuses on evaluating the effect of uncertainty in operating parameters on three conflicting objectives: electricity efficiency, SOFC current density and capital cost of system. The multi-objective optimization provides solutions in the form of a Pareto surface, with a range of possible synthesis/design solutions and a logical procedure for searching the global optimum solution for decision maker. Comparing the stochastic and deterministic Pareto surfaces of different objectives, we conclude that the objectives are considerably influenced by uncertainties because the two trade-off surfaces are different.展开更多
