First, four statistical parameters-mutual information, accessor variety, two-character word frequency and single-character word frequency are used to describe the feature vectors respectively. Then other parameters are tried to add as complementary features to the parameters which obtain the best results for further improving the classification performance. Experimental results show that features represented by mutual information, single-character word frequency and accessor variety can obtain an optimum result of 94. 39%. Compared with a commonly used word probability model, the accuracy has been improved by 6. 62%. Such comparative results confirm that the classification performance can be improved by feature selection and representation.展开更多

The conceptual shift and collocation between concreteness and abstractness enable her poems to carry both linguistic power and emotional strength; the conceptual images created by her abstract thinking and unique perception make her poems achieve originality and readability; her conceptual self built by the use of first person pronouns is actually not that of a person but that of a personified mule who was indignant about its heavy workload yet unable to speak against its predestined destiny. Although suffering from brain paralysis, the poet is shown by this review to be a sensible manipulator of words, which reveal the unique beauty in her language and show the suppressed sadness in her heart.展开更多

The proposed feature introduces spatial information among the latent topics by means of spatial pyramid, while the latent topics are obtained by using probabilistic latent semantic analysis (pLSA) based on the bag-of-words representation. The proposed feature always performs better than standard pLSA because the performance of pLSA is adversely affected in many cases due to the loss of spatial information. By combining various interest point detectors and local region descriptors used in the bag-of-words model, the proposed feature can make further improvement for diverse scene category recognition tasks. We also propose a two-stage framework for multi-class classification. In the first stage, for each of possible detector/descriptor pairs, adaptive boosting classifiers are employed to select the most discriminative topics and further compute posterior probabilities of an unknown image from those selected topics. The second stage uses the prod-max rule to combine information coming from multiple sources and assigns the unknown image to the scene category with the highest 'final' posterior probability. Experimental results on three benchmark scene datasets show that the proposed method exceeds most state-of-the-art methods.展开更多

An acceptability judgment task and a written interview task were used to collect data of L2 learners' interpretation of English articles. The results reveal that the L2 learners differ from native speakers in their computation of uniqueness of target NPs and in their L2-English article choices, and this difference can be attributed to their conceptual knowledge formed in the acquisition of the mother tongue and to their processing of such knowledge. Pedagogically, this study provides an explanation of L2-English article substitution errors from the perspective of conceptual transfer.展开更多
