In order to ensure the correct- ness and accuracy of the simulation, we did the following tasks: selecting reasonable model compounds for low-tem- perature coal tar; describing the nature of products gasoline and diesel accurately; and confirming the proper property study method for each block by means of experience and trial. The purpose of energy self-sustainability could be pos- sibly achieved, on one hand, by using hot stream to preheat cold stream and achieving temperature control of streams, and on the other hand, by utilizing gas (byproduct of the coal tar hydrocracking) combustion reaction to provide energy. Results showed that the whole process could provide a positive net power of about 609 kW-h for processing the low- temperature coal tar with a flowrate of 2 268 kg/h. The total heat recovery amounted to 2 229 kW-h, among which 845 kW'h was obtained from the gas combustion reaction, and 1 116 kW'h was provided by the reactor's outlet stream, with the rest furnished by hot streams of the products gasoline, diesel and residue. In addition, the process flow sheet could achieve products separation well, and specifically the purity of product gasoline and diesel reached 97.2% and 100%, respectively.展开更多

In the test, 50-gram of coal sample ranged from 0.18 mm to 0.38 mm was put into a special designed copper reaction vessel and let pure nitrogen to flow into the coal sample from the bottom at a rate of 100 mL/min. The programmed temperature enclosure was run at a programmed rate of 0.8 ~C/min. The concentration of the carbon oxides and the coal temperature were tested. The results show that the coal reactions under inert atmosphere can generate CO and C02. The reactions under inert atmosphere are affected by coal ranks, initial pore structure of coal and sulfur content. For low ranks of coal, the productions of carbon oxides are piecewise. The coal temperature is lower than the surrounding temperature throughout the reactions under inert atmosphere, but it rises quickly and reaches a crossing point temperature in the later stage under dry-air atmosphere. Based on the analysis, it indicates the self-reaction of initial active groups exists in the self-heating of coal besides the reactions in the two parallel reactions model. Spontaneous combustion of coal is due to both the oxidation heat accumulation and the chain reaction. A new reaction model of self-heating of coal was orooosed.展开更多

Understanding and overcoming carbon deposition is crucial for the technology development. Here a multi-physics model is established for the relevant experimental cells. Balance of electrochemical potentials for the electrochemical reactions, generic rate expression for the methane steam reforming, dusty gas model in a form of Fick's model for anode gas transport are used in the model. Excellent agreement between the theoretical and experimental current-voltage relations is obtained, demonstrating the validity of the proposed theoretical model. The steam reaction order in low steam methane reforming reaction is found to be 1. Detailed information about the distributions of physical quantities is obtained by the numerical simulation. Carbon deposition is analyzed in detail and the mechanism for the coking inhibition by operating current is illustrated clearly. Two expressions of carbon activity are analyzed and found to be correct qualitatively, but not quantitatively. The role of anode diffusion layer on reducing the current threshold for carbon removal is also explained. It is noted that the current threshold reduction may be explained quantitatively with the carbon activity models that are only qualitatively correct.展开更多

Initially, it is felt as unlimited and indeterminate will power, with the potentiality of multiple choices. Thereafter, reductive deliberation is led by determinism to the final decision, which realises only one of the potential choices. The reductive deliberation phase tries to find out the best alternative and simultaneously satisfying vague motivations, contextual conditions and personal preferences. The essential sense of free will is the introduction of personal preferences, which allows a higher diversity of reactions to vague motivations. With an oversimplified model of determinism as a chain of events, incompatibilists define "free" as "undetermined" so that determinism becomes incompatible with any free choice between alternatives. In consciousness, free will requires a more complex model of network determinism as well as the consideration of unconsciousness as a causal factor. When "free" defined as "undetermined" is applied to the context of consciousness, it should be reinterpreted as "unconscious of being determined" or not aware of underlying determinism. Lacking information on determinism generates a feeling of "free" in consciousness and, therefore, gives the impression of indeterminism. Lacking information may be induced by an uncertain future without determined events--an unconscious past with biological reactions suddenly emerging from the unconsciousness or an unknown present unable to distinguish determinism of complex events. Therefore, at the level of human consciousness, the experience of free will is associated with apparent indeterminism although it is based on unconscious determinism. The concepts of compatibilism and incompatibilism are only two different aspects of the same phenomenon and correspond to consciousness and unconsciousness. Nevertheless, they can be considered together with a free will concept based on relativity depending on two different reference frames--the first person's experience frame or the Laplace's demon frame with knowledge on every molecule of the universe. Only relativity of the free will concept avoids the contradiction between "free" and "unfree" for the same phenomenon and could be a compromise for considering compatibilism and incompatibilism equally.展开更多

The aim of the present study is to evaluate a plasmid DNA immunization system that expresses the FMDV/OflRN/2007 VP1 gene and compare it with the conventional inactivated vaccine in an animal model. The VP1 gene was sub-cloned into the unique Kpn I and BamH I cloning sites of the peDNA3.1+ and pEGFP-N1 vectors to construct the VPI gene cassettes. The transfected BHKT7 cells with sub-cloned pEGFP-N1-VP1 vector expressed GFP-VP1 fusion protein and displayed more green fluorescence spots than the transfected BHKT7 cells with pEGFP-N1 vector, which solely expressed the GFP protein. Six mice groups were respectively immunized by the sub-cloned pcDNA3.1+-VP1 gene cassette as the DNA vaccine, DNA vaccine and PCMV-SPORT-GMCSF vector (as molecular adjuvant) together, conventional vaccine, PBS (as negative control), pcDNA3.1+ vector (as control group) and PCMV-SPORT vector that contained the GMCSF gene (as control group). Significant neutralizing antibody responses were induced in the mice which were immunized using plasmid vectors expressing the VP1 and GMCSF genes together, the DNA vaccine alone and the conventional inactivated vaccine (P〈0.05). Co-administration of DNA vaccine and GMCSF gene improved neutralizing antibody response in comparison with administration of the DNA vaccine alone, but this response was the most for the conventional vaccine group. However, induction of humeral immunity response in the conventional vaccine group was more protective than for the DNA vaccine, but T-cell proliferation and IFN-? concentration were the most in DNA vaccine with the GMCSF gene. Therefore the group that was vaccinated by DNA vaccine with the GMCSF gene, showed protective neutralizing antibody response and the most Thl cellular immunity.展开更多

METHODS:A total of 60 male Wistar albino rats were divided into six groups with 10 animals in each group.Rats in group 1(control group)received a single intraperitoneal(i.p.)injection of normal saline. Animals in group 2(carnitine-supplemented group) were given L-carnitine(200 mg/kg per day)in drinking water for 8 wk.Animals in group 3(carnitine-depleted group)were given D-carnitine(200 mg/kg per day)and mildronate(200 mg/kg per day)in drinking water for 8 wk.Rats in group 4(DENA group)were injected with a single dose of DENA(200 mg/kg,i.p.)and 2 wk later received a single dose of carbon tetrachloride(2 mL/kg) by gavage as 1:1 dilution in corn oil.Animals in group 5(DENA-carnitine depleted group)received the same treatment as group 3 and group 4.Rats in group 6 (DENA-carnitine supplemented group)received the same treatment as group 2 and group 4.RESULTS:Administration of DENA resulted in a significant increase in alanine transaminase(ALT), gamma-glutamyl transferase(G-GT),alkaline phosphatase(ALP),total bilirubin, thiobarbituric acid reactive substances(TBARS)and total nitrate/ nitrite(NOx)and a significant decrease in reduced glutathione(GSH),glutathione peroxidase(GSHPx), catalase(CAT)and total carnitine content in liver tissues. In the carnitine-depleted rat model,DENA induced a dramatic increase in serum ALT,G-GT,ALP and total bilirubin,as well as a progressive reduction in total carnitine content in liver tissues.Interestingly, L-carnitine supplementation resulted in a complete reversal of the increase in liver enzymes,TBARS and NOx,and a decrease in total carnitine,GSH,GSHPx, and CAT induced by DENA,compared with the control values.Histopathological examination of liver tissues confirmed the biochemical data, where L-carnitine prevented DENA-induced hepatic carcinogenesis while D-carnitine-mildronate aggravated DENA-induced hepatic damage. CONCLUSION:Data from this study suggest for the first time that:(1)carnitine deficiency is a risk factor and should be viewed as a mechanism in DENA- induced hepatic carcinogenesis;(2)oxidative stress plays an important role but is not the only cause of DENA-induced hepatic carcinogenesis;and(3) long-term L-carnitine supplementation prevents the development of DENA-induced liver cancer.展开更多

Methods: A segment of thoracic aortas of B10.A (2R) mice were transplanted to C57BL/10 mice abdominal aorta by end to side anastomoses. The different time point collected grafts were analyzed by morphological, histochemical and electro microscopic methods. Results: Rejection was manifested as a concentric progressive destruction of the smooth muscle cells. In contrast, the endothelial inflammation and subsequent neointimal proliferation characteristic of AGA was localized to the regions of turbulent flow, i.e. the junction of the graft with the recipient aorta. Conclusion: This model separates the processes of rejection and neointimal formation which usually manifested together in the lesion of AGA, elucidate that different mechanisms control vascular rejection and neointimal formation in chronic rejection.展开更多

There is an opportunity for utilization of biomass waste resulted from fuels bio-components production. A decrease of oxygen and water steam demand in feed for POX process was observed in this variant. Catalytic effect of iron nanoparticles or nickel nitrate as catalysts in improvement of the pilot plant biomass/oil partial oxidation was investigated as well. Presence of catalyst in the feed supports formation of carbon monoxide and suppression content of methane in the gas product. Experimental data were well compared with process simulation based on eauilibrium reactor model.展开更多

We assume that the interface reaction is fast enough and the oxidation rate is controlled by diffusion process at high temperature. By introducing the growth stress gradient we modify the classical oxidation parabolic law. The modified factor of the oxidation rate constant is a function of growth strain, environment oxygen concentration, and temperature. The modeling results show that the stress gradient effect on the oxidation rate cannot be ignored. Growth strain will dominate whether the stress gradient effect promotes or slows down the oxidation process. The stress gradient effect becomes weaker at higher temperature. This effect is amplified at higher concentrations of environmental oxygen. Applied mechanical loads do not affect the oxidation rate. This model is available for high temperature oxidation of metals and alloys.展开更多

With the aging of such dams, damage accumulates and concrete degradation inevitably appears. In this paper, a model is proposed for simulating concrete degradation with aging because of chemo-mechanical damage. The seismic response of an arch dam with aging effects is analyzed using the proposed model. The results show that the damage caused by the aging of arch dams may result in an increase in tensile cantilever stresses during earthquakes. Meanwhile, the dynamic displacement and joint opening also clearly increase in comparison with those without damage. Thus, the seismic safety of arch dams is reduced by aging effects.展开更多

Methods: The AS rat model was established by a high fat diet and a large dose of calcium (vitamin D3, 0.6 million U/kg, i.p, once). Sixty healthy male adult Sprague-Dawlay (SD) rats were randomly divided into 6 groups, a normal control group (N), a model group (M), a SX low dose group (SXL), a SX middle dose group (SXM), a SX high dose group (SXH), and an atorvastatin group (ATO) (n=10 in each group). The rats in the treatment groups were given with the specific drugs from the first day by oral administration, and the normal control group and the model group were given with normal saline for 12 weeks. Afterwards, the content of malondialdehyde (MDA), the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and the content of oxidized low density lipoprotein (ox-LDL) in the serum were detected. In addition, the expression of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPARγ) and nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells (NF-κB) proteins were tested by Western-blot method. Results: The serum ox-LDL and MDA level significantly decreased, SOD activity increased in the SX middle, high dose groups and the atorvastatin group compared to the model group (all P<0.05). While the expression of PPARγ and NF-κb proteins significantly decreased in the SX low, middle, high dose groups and the atorvastatin group compared to the model group (all P<0.01), with the best effect in the SX high dose group .These results indicate that SX could elevate the activity of serum SOD, decrease serum level of MDA and ox-LDL, and reduce the expression of PPARγ and NF-κB proteins. Conclusion: SX plays an important role in anti-inflammation and inhibition of oxidative stress, which possibly are the mechanism of its preventing and treating atherosclerosis.展开更多

Studies also found that ab- acavir-induced ADRs were seldom observed in patients carrying the HLA-B*5801 subtype. HLA-B*5801 of the same sero- type (B17) as B*5701 differs by only 4 amino acids from B'5701. It is believed that because of these sequence differences, HLA-B*5801 cannot bind the specific peptides which are required for HLA-B*5701 to stimulate the T cell immune response. Thus, the difference in peptide binding profiles between HLA-B*5701 and B*5801 is an important clue for exploring the mechanisms of abacavir-induced ADRs. VHSE (principal component score vector of hydrophobic, steric, and electronic prop- erties), a set of amino acid structural descriptors, was employed to establish QSAR models of peptide-binding affinities of HLA-B*5701 and B*5801. Optimal linear SVM (support vector machine) models with high predictive capabilities were ob- tained for both B*5701 and B'5801. The R2 (coefficient of determination), Q2 (cross-validated R:), and RpRE2 (R2 of test set) of two optimal models were 0,7530, 0.7037, 0.6153 (B'5701) and 0.6074, 0.5966, 0.5762 (B*5801), respectively. For B'5701 and B'5801, the mutations in positions 45 (MET-THR) and 46 (ALA-GLU) have little influence on the selection specificity of the P2 position of the bound peptide. However, the mutation in position 97 (VAL-ARG) greatly influences the selection speci- ficity of the P7 position. HLA-B*5701 prefers the bulky and positively charged amino acids at the P7 position. In contrast, HLA-B*5801 prefers the non-polar hydrophobic amino acids at the P7 position while positively charged amino acids are un- favored.展开更多

However, frequently it is not clear when such an approximation is applicable and when it breaks down. This paper studies the simple Schnakenberg model consisting of three reversible reactions and two molecular species whose concentrations vary. To reduce the residual errors from the conventional formulation of the Langevin equation, the authors propose to explicitly model the effective coupling between macroscopic concentrations of different molecular species. The results show that this formulation is effective in correcting residual errors from the original uncoupled Langevin equation and can approximate the underlying chemical master equation very accurately.展开更多

Bed expansion behavior models were established under bed unfluidization, fluidization, and transportation states. Under unfluidization state, Ewas 0, Vprnax was 4867 ml, and rmax was 844-3800 s. Under fluidization state, E, Vpmax, and Tmax were 5.28%-255.69%, 1368-4559 ml, and 104-732 s, respectively. Under transportation state, washout of granular sludge occurred and destabilized the SAB. During stable running of SAB under fluidization state, E correlated positively with superficial gas and liquid velocities (Ug and ul), while Vpmax and Tmax correlated negatively. For E and Vpmax, the sensitivities of ug and ul were close to each other, while for Tmax, the sensitivity of ur was greater than that of Ug. The prediction from these models was a close match to the experimental data.展开更多

文摘The analysis on the feedstock pyrolysis characteristic and the impacts of process parameters on pyrolysis outcomes can assist in the designing, operating and optimizing pyrolysis processes. This work aims to utilize both experimental and modelling approaches to perform the analysis on three biomass feedstocks—wood sawdust, bamboo shred and Jatropha Curcas seed cake residue, and to provide insights for the design and operation of pyrolysis processes. For the experimental part, the study investigated the effect of heating rate, final pyrolysis temperature and sample size on pyrolysis using common thermal analysis techniques. For the modelling part,a transient mathematical model that integrates the feedstock characteristic from the experimental study was used to simulate the pyrolysis progress of selected biomass feedstock particles for reactor scenarios. The model composes of several sub-models that describe pyrolysis kinetic and heat flow, particle heat transfer, particle shrinking and reactor operation. With better understanding of the effects of process conditions and feedstock characteristics on pyrolysis through both experimental and modelling studies, this work discusses on the considerations of and interrelation between feedstock size, pyrolysis energy usage, processing time and product quality for the design and operation of pyrolysis processes.
文摘Free will is difficult to classify with respect to determinism or indeterminism, and its phenomenology in consciousness often shows both aspects. Only relativity of the free will concept avoids the contradiction between "free" and "unfree" for the same phenomenon and could be a compromise for considering compatibilism and incompatibilism equally.
文摘Foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV) is highly contagious and responsible for huge outbreaks among cloven hoofed animals. Therefore the group that was vaccinated by DNA vaccine with the GMCSF gene, showed protective neutralizing antibody response and the most Thl cellular immunity.

文摘AIM:To investigate whether carnitine deficiency is a risk factor during the development of diethylnitrosamine (DENA)-induced hepatic carcinogenesis. CONCLUSION:Data from this study suggest for the first time that:(1)carnitine deficiency is a risk factor and should be viewed as a mechanism in DENA- induced hepatic carcinogenesis;(2)oxidative stress plays an important role but is not the only cause of DENA-induced hepatic carcinogenesis;and(3) long-term L-carnitine supplementation prevents the development of DENA-induced liver cancer.
文摘Objective: To study the cause and mechanism of transplantation vasculopathy which characterized by accelerated graft arteriosclerosis (AGA), we established a mouse aorta graft model. Conclusion: This model separates the processes of rejection and neointimal formation which usually manifested together in the lesion of AGA, elucidate that different mechanisms control vascular rejection and neointimal formation in chronic rejection.
文摘Investigation was focussed to application of waste POX (partial oxidation), e.g., meal rape in form of suspension in high boiling hydrocarbons from crude oil distillation. Experimental data were well compared with process simulation based on eauilibrium reactor model.

文摘A new oxidation kinetics model is established for high-temperature oxidation. This model is available for high temperature oxidation of metals and alloys.

文摘Arch dams suffer time-varying external loadings and harsh environment that harm their physical properties. Thus, the seismic safety of arch dams is reduced by aging effects.
文摘Objective: To observe the preventive role of Suxiao Jiuxin Pill (SX速效救心丸) on atherosclerosis (AS) and to probe into the mechanism in the atherosclerosis rat model. Conclusion: SX plays an important role in anti-inflammation and inhibition of oxidative stress, which possibly are the mechanism of its preventing and treating atherosclerosis.

文摘Recently, genome wide association studies showed that there is a strong association between abacavir-induced serious, idio- syncratic, adverse drag reactions (ADRs) and human leukocyte antigen-B*5701 (HLA-B*5701). In contrast, HLA-B*5801 prefers the non-polar hydrophobic amino acids at the P7 position while positively charged amino acids are un- favored.
文摘Langevin equation is widely used to study the stochastic effects in molecular networks, as it often approximates well the underlying chemical master equation. The results show that this formulation is effective in correcting residual errors from the original uncoupled Langevin equation and can approximate the underlying chemical master equation very accurately.

文摘Bed expansion behavior and sensitivity analysis for super-high-rate anaerobic bioreactor (SAB) were performed based on bed expansion ratio (E), maximum bed sludge content (Vpmax), and maximum bed contact time between sludge and liquid (Tmax). The prediction from these models was a close match to the experimental data.
