Since the ventilation rate is a nonlinear function of multiple variable factors including wind speed, wind direction, internal heat source and building structural thermal mass, the conventional methods for quantifying ventilation rate simply using dominant wind direction and average wind speed may not accurately describe the characteristic performance of natural ventilation. From a new point of view, the natural ventilation performance of a single room building under fluctuating wind speed condition using the Monte-Carlo simulation approach was investigated by incorporating building facade thermal mass effect. Given a same hourly turbulence intensity distribution, the wind speeds with 1 rain frequency fluctuations were generated using a stochastic model, the modified GARCH model. Comparisons of natural ventilation profiles, effective ventilation rates, and air conditioning electricity use for a three-month period show statistically significant differences (for 80% confidence interval) between the new calculations and the traditional methods based on hourly average wind speed.展开更多

In this study, a three-dimensional two-phase flow model based on VOF method for simulating the hydrodynamics and mass-transfer behavior in a typical representative unit of the structured packing is developed. In the proposed model, the c 2 - ε c model is used for the closure of turbulent mass transfer equation. The mathematical model of the surface diffusion described by the difference in mean curvature is defined as a Hamilton-Jacobi-type equation, and the model is numerically solved by the level set method. The three-dimensional numerical simulations of two metal powders and fibers(the fiber angle is 0° or 90°) are implemented by this mathematical model, respectively. The numerical simulation results accord with the experimental ones. The sintering neck growth trends of metal powders and metal fibers are similar. The sintering neck radius of metal fibers is larger than that of metal powders. The difference of the neck radius is caused by the difference of geometric structure which makes an important influence on the curvature affecting the migration rate of atoms.展开更多

Based on the bi-directional modified Cuk converter, variable universe fuzzy controllers are proposed to adaptively maintain equalizing currents between cells of a serially connected battery pack in varying conditions. The inputs to the fuzzy controller are the voltage differences and the average voltages of adjacent cell pairs. A large voltage difference requires large equalizing current while adjacent cells both with low/high voltages can only stand small discharge/charge currents. Compared with the conventional fuzzy control method, the proposed method differs in that the universe can shrink or expand as the effects of the input changes. This is important as the input may change in a small range. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed variable universe fuzzy control method has fast equalization speed and good adaptiveness for varying conditions.展开更多

The experimental results indicated that the contact angle changes nonlinearly with anisotropic factor. To get clear of the changing process of contact angle on grooved surfaces from microscale to macroscale, we carried out theoretical analysis with moment equilibrium method being adopted. In addition, the variation of contact angles in different directions was investigated and a mathematic model to calculate arbitrary contact angles around the elliptic contact line was suggested. For the convenience of potential applications, a symbolic contact angle was proposed to characterize the ellipsoidal cap droplet on grooved surfaces. Our results will offer help to the future design of patterned surfaces in practical applications, and deepen the understanding of wetting behavior on grooved surfaces.展开更多

The obtained lattice parameters, bulk modulus and elastic constants are in very good agreement with the available experimental data and other theoretical results. The thermodynamic properties of the cubic TiC are predicted by using the quasi-harmonic Debye model. The normalized volume V/V 0 , bulk modulus B, thermal expansion , heat capacity C V , Grüneisen parameter and Debye temperature dependence on the pressure and temperature are obtained successfully. At low temperature and low pressure, thermal expansion coefficient increases rapidly with temperature. At high temperature and high pressure, the increasing trend becomes tender. At low temperatures, C V is proportional to T 3 , and C V tends to the Dulong-Petit limit at higher temperatures.展开更多

We show the existence of an absolute band gap of the perfect phononic crystal and linear defect modes inside the gap caused by localization of flexural waves at or near the defects. The displacement distributions show that flexural waves can transmit well along the straight linear defect created by removing one row of cylinders from the perfect phononic crystals for almost all the frequencies falling in the band gap, which indicates that this structure can act as a high efficiency waveguide. However, for bending or branching linear defects, there exist both guided and localized modes, and therefore the phononic crystals could be served as waveguides or filters.展开更多

Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed variable universe fuzzy control method has fast equalization speed and good adaptiveness for varying conditions.

文摘In this paper, the variation of contact angles of a droplet on grooved surfaces was studied from microscale to macroscale experimentally and theoretically. Our results will offer help to the future design of patterned surfaces in practical applications, and deepen the understanding of wetting behavior on grooved surfaces.

文摘Using the pseudopotential plane-wave method, we investigate the elastic constants and thermodynamic properties of the rocksalt structure Titanium Carbide (TiC). At low temperatures, C V is proportional to T 3 , and C V tends to the Dulong-Petit limit at higher temperatures.

文摘The band structures of flexural waves in a phononic crystal thin plate with straight, bending or branching linear defects are theoretically investigated using the supercell technique based on the improved plane wave expansion method. However, for bending or branching linear defects, there exist both guided and localized modes, and therefore the phononic crystals could be served as waveguides or filters.
