How do we recognize the characteristics of global seismic activities with space ob...The relationship between the strain rate field observed by GPS and global distribution of strong earthquakes is analyzed in this work. How do we recognize the characteristics of global seismic activities with space observation technology? A preliminary model of Cellular Automata that could simulate the global seismic activities both in time and space has been established based on the results of global strain rate field provided by the GSRM Program. The grid of the model is evenly divided,which is consistent with that of GSRM.The status of each cell is its strain state,and is adjusted according to the evolution rules.Maximum shear strain criterion is adopted in the evolution of the Cellular Automata. The threshold for cells in surface expansion is 80% of that for those in compression. The preliminary model could in general simulate the main characteristics of the distribution of the global seismic activities. It could exhibit in general the global distribution of weak and active tectonic activities. Although the preliminary Cellular Automata model needs to be improved in many aspects,the result suggests the possibility of modeling the general features of rather complicated global seismic activities based on the strain rates obtained by GPS and other observations.展开更多
Without cooperative behaviors, our society or organization falls into social dilemma situations where every member selects uncooperative (defective) behaviors, and the situation gets worse and worse. Such a situatio...Without cooperative behaviors, our society or organization falls into social dilemma situations where every member selects uncooperative (defective) behaviors, and the situation gets worse and worse. Such a situation in a society or an organization leads to violation of social or organizational rules, and at the worst case it suffers from serious accidents or scandals. Therefore, it is important for us to make efforts and take measures to elicit cooperative behaviors. It was demonstrated theoretically that altruism strategy and adaptive prediction and ascertainment strategy are in some cases better than rational strategy under the situation of social dilemma. We built up a mathematical model in order to examine how the probability of correctly predicting and ascertaining the behavior (cooperation or defection) of opponents and the mixture of (a) altruism (all cooperation) strategy, (b) individualism (all defection) strategy, and (c) adaptive prediction and ascertainment strategy affected the expected profit. Simulation results showed that the tit-for-tat strategy was better than the rational (individualism) strategy when the probability of correctly predicting and ascertaining defection of the opponent was considerably higher. As an application of the basic study above, it was explored, using a simulation method, how such a system as opening reputation or peer review in public could work satisfactorily to prevent defective behaviors in auction dealing. The result showed that the information on the handle name and the reputation effectively worked to prevent defective behaviors.展开更多
The natural convective heat transfer performance and thermo-fluidic characteristics of honeycombs with/without chimney extensions are numerically investigated.The present numerical simulations are validated by the pur...The natural convective heat transfer performance and thermo-fluidic characteristics of honeycombs with/without chimney extensions are numerically investigated.The present numerical simulations are validated by the purposely-designed experimental measurements on honeycombs with/without chimney.Good agreement between numerical simulation and experimental measurement is obtained.The influences of inclination angle and geometric parameters such as cell shape,streamwise and spanwise length are also numerically quantified.With the increment in inclination angle,the overall heat transfer rate decreases for the honeycombs with/without chimney.For honeycombs with the same void volume fraction but different cell shapes,there is little difference on the overall heat transfer rate.To enhance the natural convective heat transfer of honeycombs,these techniques including increasing the length of honeycomb in the streamwise/spanwise direction,increasing the thermal conductivity of hon-eycomb structure or adding a chimney extension may be helpful.展开更多

Astroparticle experiments benefit from high integration, smallsize and low power consumption. In this paper an analog chip named ARCHGARD (Analog Readout Chip for High energyGamma Ray Detector) for high energy physics experiment is introduced. ARCHGARD is a readout chip, in chartered 0.35 mSiGe technology, for photomultipliers (PMT) array readout. The chip is designed for the Large High Altitude Air Shower Ob-servatory (LHAASO) project. The ASIC integrates 16 independent and auto-triggered channels with variable gain and variableshaping time. It provides analog output for charge measurement, which is performed from 1 up to 3000 photo-electrons (p.e.).The integral nonlinearity of the whole input range is less than 1% and the equivalent input noise is less than 1/10 p.e. Eachchannel has a trigger output for time measurement.展开更多
