Deformation modulus is the important parameter in stability analysis of tunnels, dams and mining struc- tures. In this paper, two predictive models including Mamdani fuzzy system (MFS) and multivariable regression analysis (MVRA) were developed to predict deformation modulus based on data obtained from dilatometer tests carried out in Bakhtiary dam site and additional data collected from longwall coal mines. Models inputs were considered to be rock quality designation, overburden height, weathering, unconfined compressive strength, bedding inclination to core axis, joint roughness coefficient and fill thickness. To control the models performance, calculating indices such as root mean square error (RMSE), variance account for (VAF) and determination coefficient (R^2) were used. The MFS results show the significant prediction accuracy along with high performance compared to MVRA results. Finally, the sensitivity analysis of MFS results shows that the most and the least effective parameters on deformation modulus are weatherin~ and overburden height, respectively. 展开更多

A New Model of Lithosphere Deformation Beneath the Okinawa Trough Based on Gravity Data

The Ryukyu trench-arc system can be divided into two types according to its subduction model. The normal subduction in the northern part of the Philippine Sea plate creates a hinge sedimentary wedge with large deformation at the collision front, while the oblique subduction in the southern part gives rise to a smaller accretion with small deformation than that in the northern part. The mechanisms that cause the distinction between these two types have been analysed and calculated by using gravity data based on the lithosphere rheology and the stress state of the lithosphere in the subduction boundary. The two types of subduction model are associated with the internal extension in the southern Okinawa Trough and the small extension in the northern part. The difference of the stress state between the two types of subduction model is also manifested in other tectonic features, such as topography, volcanic activity and crust movement. Modeling bathymetric and gravity data from this area suggests that the oblique subduction of low angle, together with smooth geometry of the overlying plate crust, results in small stress released on the south of the trench by the subduction plate. The intraplate faults in the southern Okinawa Trough behind the trench stand in surplus intensive stress. On the other hand, the normal subduction of high angle, together with strong undulation geometry of the overlying crust, results in more intensive stress released in the northern Ryukyu Trench than that in the south. The intraplate faults in the northern Okinawa Trough behind the northern Ryukyu Trench stand in small stress. 展开更多

The mechanism of broadening of slab in continuous casting was studied by numerical simulations and experimental measurements in factories. The mechanism is derived by gradual exclusion of various factors related to the broadening of slab. It is concluded that the slab exposes to no constraint at the direction of narrow face. Because of the static pressure of molten steel, the slab deforms creepily in the direction that consequently results in the broadening of slab. The broadening of slab increases with casting speed and static pressure of molten steel. The decrease of secondary cooling intensity and strength of steel at high temperature also contribute to the broadening of slab. The micro-alloying plays an important role in improving the strength of steel and in reducing the broadening of slab. 展开更多

In this study, venee... Horizontal density variation is a structural phenomenon of non-veneer wood composites. The variation and distribution characteristics of horizontal density have impacts on the products properties. In this study, veneer strip simulated flake boards with 4 kinds of density distribution were made using a mat model. The density variation of the modeled mats was discussed, as well as the relationship between sample size and density variation. The effects of density and density distribution of non-veneer composites on the internal bond strength were analyzed. Result shows that the horizontal density of random formed particleboard follows normal distribution. Density has remarkable influence on internal bond strength (IB). Increasing density helps to improve IB at lower density stage, but has negative impacts on IB at higher density stage. Density variation between testing specimens depends on their sizes. Properly increasing specimen size can decrease the variation of the IBs. 展开更多
