Furfural extract oil(FEO) was separated into the light fraction and the heavy fraction. Swelling and dissolution process of natural rubber sheet in these three oil samples was investigated to shed light on the interaction mechanism. Crumb rubber also interacted on FEO and asphalt respectively. Energy dispersive spectrometer(EDS), thermo-gravimetric analysis(TGA) and scanning electron microscope(SEM) were used to characterize the chemical and structural properties of processed rubber. The chemical composition of processed oils and asphalt was investigated by using the hydrocarbon group analysis(SARA) and gel permeation chromatography. The results revealed that the swelling rate and mass loss of rubber in oils were much higher than those in asphalt and rose with an increasing processing temperature. The heavy fraction of FEO had more diffusion and dissolving capability than the light fraction, whilst compatibility was observed between the heavy fraction and the light fraction. Selective absorption was not observed in the study and detachment of dissolved rubber was disseminated from the outside to the inside. The cross-linking degree of the residue rubber was unchanged with the processing time, and sulfur predominantly remained in the undissolved rubber. Dissolution of crumbed rubber in oils was attributed to devulcanization, while that in the asphalt was mainly attributed to depolymerization.展开更多

The HRR distribution on different part of tire section, and the effects of speed, load, internal pressure and the width of the rim on HRR are analyzed. The analysis results showed that energy loss produced by tread rubber contributes the most part to HRR of the whole tire, and that to decrease the HRR, the hysteresis factor of the tread rubber should be reduced, and the distribution of the stress and strain on the section be optimized.展开更多

Raw materials used were prepared and tested. Varies of asphalt concrete mixtures were prepared with different ratios of bitumen (5, 5.5, 6, 6.5, 7% % of concrete weight). The Marshall mix design method was used to determine optimum conditions for bitumen in asphalt concrete with specific weight, stability and flow Test, the optimum amount of bitumen was 6.1% of whole asphalt concrete. The different percentages of waste tire rubber powder (0.0, 0.05, 0.10, 0.15% of bitumen weight) were added in optimum bitumen of asphalt concretes, then specific weight and Marshall test were evaluated. These asphalt-rubber mixtures were found to act quite differently from traditional, unmodified asphalt mixtures. However, these results indicate that improved pavement performance can be achieved with asphalt-rubber binder.展开更多

This paper presents calculation methods of GHG emissions and data on production activities, as well as fuel consumption, energy, etc. This example shows that environmental investments are effective primarily in the environmental aspect, but they can become profitable (the carbon trading market of GHG allowances and by providing alternative energy in national energy system, resulting in "green certificates").展开更多

The isolated building is numerically modeled, while the base isolation layer is considered as the experimental substructure in the pseudo-dynamic tests. The test result verifies that the STRP isolator shows acceptable shear deformation performance predicted by the design methods, and demonstrated that seismic isolation using STRP works as a protective measure to provide enhanced seismic performance of the building indicated by the reduction of top floor absolute acceleration, drift and base shear as designated.展开更多
