A novel asynchronous ACS(add-compare-select) processor for Viterbi decoder is described.It is controlled by local handshake signals instead of the globe clock.The circuits of asynchronous adder unit,asynchronous compa...A novel asynchronous ACS(add-compare-select) processor for Viterbi decoder is described.It is controlled by local handshake signals instead of the globe clock.The circuits of asynchronous adder unit,asynchronous comparator unit,and asynchronous selector unit are proposed.A full-custom design of asynchronous 4-bit ACS processor is fabricated in CSMC-HJ 0.6μm CMOS 2P2M mixed-mode process.At a supply voltage of 5V,when it operates at 20MHz,the power consumption is 75.5mW.The processor has no dynamic power consumption when it awaits an opportunity in sleep mode.The results of performance test of asynchronous 4-bit ACS processor show that the average case response time 19.18ns is only 82% of the worst-case response time 23.37ns.Compared with the synchronous 4-bit ACS processor in power consumption and performance by simulation,it reveals that the asynchronous ACS processor has some advantages than the synchronous one.展开更多
The selection of a landfill site is considered as a complicated task because this process is based on many factors and restrictions. For Al-Qasim Qadhaa, which is situated in the southern part of the Babylon Governora...The selection of a landfill site is considered as a complicated task because this process is based on many factors and restrictions. For Al-Qasim Qadhaa, which is situated in the southern part of the Babylon Governorate, Iraq, there is no landfill site in that area that conforms to the scientific criteria for selecting sites for landfill. For this reason, 15 criteria were adopted in this study (groundwater depth, rivers, soil types, agriculture lands use, land use, elevation, slope, gas pipelines, oil pipelines, power lines, roads, railways, urban centers, villages and archaeological sites) using GIS (geographic information system), which has a large ability to manage input data. In addition, the AHP (analytical hierarchy process) method was used to derive the relative weightings for each criterion using pair-wise comparison. To obtain the suitability index for candidate landfill sites, a weighted linear combination method was used. After combining these methods, two suitable candidate landfill sites, with areas of 2.766 km2 and 2.055 km2, respectively, were found to satisfy the scientific and environmental requirements. The area of these sites can accommodate solid waste from 2020 until 2030 based on the required area, which was 0.702 km2.展开更多
Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing(OFDM)has been used for many wireless communication systems.However,the main drawback of this method is the high Peak-to-Average Power Ratio(PAPR).Selected Mapping(SLM)is a te...Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing(OFDM)has been used for many wireless communication systems.However,the main drawback of this method is the high Peak-to-Average Power Ratio(PAPR).Selected Mapping(SLM)is a technique used for solving the high PAPR problem in OFDM systems.In SLM,the original data sequence is multiplied by a set of predetermined phase sequences and multiple signals with different PAPRs are generated.Then,the one with the lowest PAPR is selected for transmission.The SLM method requires sending of some bits as Side Information(SI)for each data block,which is of critical importance to the receiver for decoding.The SI bits cause a decrease in the bandwidth efficiency;furthermore,incorrect SI detection leads to the loss of an entire data block.In this paper,we exhibit a new SLM technique by using a Multiple Recursive Generator(MRG),a method of generating pseudo random sequences,to send data without explicit SI bits.We show that the proposed technique performs very well in terms of the Bit Error Rate(BER),Probability of detection failure(Pdf)and PAPR reduction.展开更多

We used comparative methods to examine patterns of evol...As complex traits evolve, each component of the trait may be under different selection pressures and could respond independently to distinct evolutionary forces. We used comparative methods to examine patterns of evolution in multiple components of a complex courtship signal in darters, specifically addressing the question of how nuptial coloration evolves across different areas of the body. Using spectral reflectance, we defined 4 broad color classes present on the body and fins of 17 species of freshwater fishes (genus Etheostoma) and quantified differences in hue within each color class. Ancestral state reconstruction suggests that most color traits were expressed in the most recent common ancestor of sampled species and that differences among species are mostly due to losses in coloration. The evolutionary lability of coloration varied across body regions; we found sig- nificant phylogenetic signal for orange color on the body but not for most colors on fins. Finally, patterns of color evolution and hue Of the colors were correlated among the two dorsal fins and between the anterior dorsal and anal fins, but not between any of the fins and the body. The observed patterns support the hypothesis that different components of complex signals may be subject to distinct evolutionary pressures, and suggests that the combination of behavioral displays and morphology in communication may have a strong influence on patterns of signal evolution .展开更多

In the present work, an "ensemble"-based colorim...The development of sensors for selective detection of cyanide ion(CN^-) is an important mission to accomplish because of the versatility and toxicity of CN^-. In the present work, an "ensemble"-based colorimetric and fluorescent sensor(L2-Zn^(2+)) for CN^-ion has been developed. The addition of cyanide ions removed Zn^(2+) from the ensemble(L2-Zn^(2+)) in aqueous medium, resulting in a color change of the solution from red to buff and a "turn-on" fluorescent response. Also, the sensitivity of both the fluorescenceand colorimetric-based assay is below the maximum allowable level of cyanide ions in drinking water set by the World Health Organization. In addition, test strips, which served as convenient and efficient CN^- test kits, were fabricated based on the sensor.Notably, the selective detection of cyanide with L2-Zn^(2+) for practical application was also performed in sprouting potatoes.展开更多
