Cultivation is mostly of indigenous and non-traditional varieties, characterized by low productivity, and compounded by production shocks due to environmental stresses. The research introduced vegetable farmers to better irrigation and compost management practices using the nuclear and isotopic techniques. On the average, yield of vegetables increase by 9.2% under irrigation and organic manure application compared to yield under the conventional method. Farmers saved 60%-70% of the total cost on water per acre using drip irrigation. Relative to conventional methods, farmers save at least US$70 per acre on fertilizer taking in to account cost of converting manure to compost. The result also revealed that, overall poverty gap among farmers who only depends on rain fall needed an additional 55% of the present income to attain minimum basket of their basic needs compared to 30% among some of those who irrigate in addition to rainfall. Results of our study have shown that farmers could gain financially, redeem themselves from poverty as well as improving their social conditions and ensure ecologically sustainable development with Small Scale Irrigation integrated with the right composting recipe.展开更多

The paper summarizes the researches outputs whose main aim was to illustrate the potentialities of different strategies for the improvement of suburbs. In order to implement different strategies for the refurbishment of suburban areas, researches were aimed firstly at the identification of several case studies that are representatives of the European panorama because of their typology, construction and state of physical and social deterioration. The final result was a collection of examples for the urban regeneration, gathered from case studies but offering a wide-scale of applications on public housing complexes. The paper highlights different approaches and strategies taken by different countries towards the methodologies of assessing, refurbishing and adding new value to the suburban areas, in view of increasing not only the quality of buildings but also the quality of public spaces and services, for a better quality of life of the citizens.展开更多

The physicians enrolled in the course were all part of an accredited Obstetrics and Gynecology residency program and ranged in their training from post graduate year(PGY) 1-4. Each participant received simulation based teaching on the indications, contraindications, proper application, delivery and removal of forceps by a single teacher. The Gaumard's simulator and Simpson forceps were used for this course. Statistical analysis using SPSS statistical software was performed after the completion of the simulation training program. A paired student t-test was performed to compare the cohort's mean pretest and post simulation training scores. Follow up skills assessment scores at one month, 3 mo and 6 mo were compared to thebaseline pretest score using a paired student t-test. RESULTS: There was statistically significant improvement in the post simulation training performance evaluations compared to the pretest, 13.7(SD = 3.14) vs 7.9(SD = 4.92), P < 0.05. Scores at 1 mo, 3 mo, and 6 mo were compared to the pretest score and showed retention of skills: 4.6(SD = 5.5, 95%CI: 2.21-7.07), 4.4(SD = 5.2, 95%CI: 2.13-6.70), and 5.6(SD = 4.8, 95%CI: 3.53-7.75) points, respectively. There were statistically significant differences between residents by post graduate training year on pretest scores, however these differences were not present after simulation training. Pretest scores for PGY 1, 2, 3, 4 were 3.5(SD = 2.27, 95%CI: 2.13-5.00), 7.25(SD = 6.70, 95%CI: 1.50-13.00), 10.75(SD = 1.5, 95%CI: 9.50-12.00), 12.17(SD = 2.57, 95%CI: 10.33-14.00). After simulation training PGY 1 residents did as well as well as the upper level residents. Posttest mean test scores for PGY 1, 2, 3, 4 were 13.75(SD = 1.49, 95%CI: 12.75-14.63), 10.25(SD = 0.24, 95%CI: 4.25-14.00), 15.00(SD = 1.16, 95%CI: 14.00-16.00), 15.17(SD = 0.75, 95%CI: 14.67-15.67). CONCLUSION: Our simulation based training program not only produced short term gains, but participants were able to retain the skills learned and demonstrate their knowledge months later.展开更多

Author briefly describes the situation of the many universities of the point of view of education, research, orientation, system of financing and management of the universities. The whole article is based on the author's practical experiences. The research objective was to determine how the professional community is looking at private universities and state universities. It was based on the opinion of the quality of graduates and the number of academic staff who are working at state universities These academics have mostly negative view of private universities as well as the knowledge of graduates of these private schools. However, the opinion ofstaffin practice, especially managers in manufacturing companies, trading companies, companies selling services, as well as senior officials in government, are not so negative. By contrast in certain areas such as marketing, business, management, Information and Communication Technology etc., was rather neutral or positive. The politicians were interested about these information with regard to educational reform (reform of universities is still not actual--note the author) and the expected necessary cuts of spending to higher education from the state budget. Unfortunately, the research project due to political changes in 2009 was not completed and obtained only partial results. Despite of this fact the author decided to process the article below Opinions on the topic of public vs. private univeristies were mainly obtained informally from experts from academic area (both public and private), managers, various specialists, but also from the students themselves. In conclusion man can say that the demand for people who are able to quickly demonstrate their knowledge in practice is still stronger. The title becomes second-rate (unfortunately not quite in the public and state administration). Very strong demand is the active practice of communication in English (it fulfilles especially private universities) Graduates of technical universities in the classical fields are sought less in the labor market. Very high pressure is developed by state universities to private. This implies a lack of professors and associate professors who can work in full time at private universities which are more flexible and better adapt to labor market requirements. Stronger position have private universities that are in any way connected with foreign partners from developed countries展开更多
