The forest ecosystem plays an important role in the global carbon cycling. A study was conducted to evaluate soil CO2 flux and its seasonal and diurnal variation with the air and soil temperatures by using static closed chamber technique in a typical broad-leaved/Korean pine mixed forest area on the northern slope of Changbai Mountain, Jilin Province, China. The experiment was carried out through the day and night in the growing season (from June to September) in situ and sample gas was analyzed by a gas chromatograph. Results showed that the forest floor was a large net source of carbon, and soil CO2 fluxes had an obvi-ous law of seasonal and diel variation. The soil CO2 flux of broad-leaved/Korean pine mixed forest was in the range of 0.302.42 mmol穖-2穝-1 with the mean value of 0.98 mmol穖-2穝-1. An examination on the seasonal pattern of soil CO2 emission suggested that the variability in soil CO2 flux could be correlated with variations in soil temperature, and the maximum of mean CO2 flux occurred in July ((1.27±23%) mmol穖-2穝-1) and the minimum was in September ((0.50±28%) mmol穖-2穝-1). The fluctuations in diel soil CO2 flux were also correlated with changes in soil temperature; however, there existed a factor for a time lag. Soil CO2 flux from the forest floor was strongly related to soil temperature and had the highest correlation with temperature at 6-cm depth of soil. Q10 values based on air temperature and soil temperature of different soil depths were at the ranges of 2.09–3.40. 展开更多

This study was carried out in paddy fields to explore how organic manure applications would affect greenhouse emissions in South China. The results showed that the seasonal emission of CH4 under the chemical fertilizer (CF) treatment was 271.47 kg/hm^2. In comparison, the seasonal emissions of CH4 under the treatment of pig manure (PM), chicken manure (CM) and rice straw (RS) increased by 50.61,260.22 and 602.82 kg/hm^2, respectively. N2O emission under the CF treatment was 1.22 kg/hm^2, while the N20 seasonal emissions under tile PM, CM and RS treatment decreased by 23.6% (P〈0.05), 31.7% (P〈0.05) and 30.9% (P〈0.05), respectively. Meanwhile, the readily oxidized organic carbon (which was oxidized by 167 mmol/L potassium permanganate, ROC167) of manure, paddy soil Eh value and temperature could also affect the CH4 emissions. The average yield of the organic fertilizer treatments increased by 6.8% compared with that of the CF treatment. Among all the organic fertilizer treatments, the PM treatment offered the lowest global warming potential and greenhouse gas intensity, in which the PM was of no significant difference from NF (no fertilizing) and CF. Therefore, the pig manure is capable of coordinating the relationship between environment and yield, and it also has a low ROC167 content, so the PM is considered worthy of recommendation. 展开更多

For determination of P CO 2 in the atmosphere, a sampling method was developed in which the chromatograph was connected to a 6 port valve with a sampling pipe opening to the atmosphere, so gas pressure in the sampling pipe was identical to that of the atmosphere. A semi automatic seawater atmosphere equilibrium system was designed to determine the P CO 2 in seawater. The equilibrium chamber contained in situ seawater and the well equilibrated gas was pushed into the sampling pipe by sample water, so pressure and temperature calibration could be avoided. This method has high accuracy for the determination of P CO 2 in the air and seawater, and was used for in situ determination of P CO 2 in the atmosphere and of the seawater sample in the JGOFS cruise in the East China Sea. 展开更多

Coal samples from this mine were tested in laboratory. The data obtained from laboratory determination were initialized for the value which was defined as "K". The ratio of each index gas and value of "K", and the ratio of combination index gases and value of "K", were analyzed simultaneously. The research results show that for this coal mine, if there is carbon monoxide in the gas sample, the phenomenon of oxidation and temperature rising for coal exists in this mine; if there is C_2H_4 in the gas sample, the temperature of coal perhaps exceeds 130 °C. If the coal temperature is between 35 °C and 130 °C, prediction and forecast for coal spontaneous combustion depend on the value of Φ(CO)/K mainly; if the temperature of coal is between 130 °C and 300 °C, prediction and forecast for coal spontaneous combustion depend on the value of Φ(C_2H_6)/Φ(C_2H_2) and Φ(C_2H_6)/K. The research results provide experimental basis for the prediction of coal spontaneous combustion in Anyuan coal mine, and have better guidance on safe production of this coal mine. 展开更多

Interfacial Evolution and Migration Characteristics of Acid Gas Injected into a Saline Aquifer

Acid gas injection into saline aquifers is one of promising ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to dispose hazardous waste simultaneously. On the basis of Level Set method, an improved mathematical model that described interfacial dynamics of acid gas-brine system in a deep confined saline aquifer was proposed for predicting the propagation of the acid gas plume, which was featured by using Peng-Robinson equation and modified Lucas equation to describe variations of the density and viscosity of acid gas in saline aquifers. The evolutional characte^stics of acid gas plume were obtained through numerical simulations using COMSOL Multiphysics 3.5a. The results showed that under intrinsic characteristics of aquifers and operational conditions given, the variation of acid gas density was the major factor that influences the patterns and shapes of the plume. The leading edge position of acid gas plume was intensively dependent on the acid gas composition. Under the scheme of fixed mass flow rate injection, as the molar fraction of H2S increased, the position of leading edge advanced gradually towards the injection well. Moreover, the estimation of the storage efficiency of acid gas in saline aquifers was clarified and discussed. The proposed approach and the simulation results will provide insights into the determination of optimal operational strategies and rapid identification of the consequences of acid gas injection into deep confined saline aquifers. 展开更多

Climatic changes are correlated with the degradation of biosphere. It is a question of saving life on authors planet. The authors should begin taking strong measures, else Earth has a chance to repeat the destiny of Mars and Venus, as some scientists are afraid of. So reasoning like "When will it be and will it be at all" is for lazy, careless and selfish people. Now, because of the industrial emission of greenhouse gases, the temperature of the atmosphere is growing, the climate is changing: sudden temperature differences, snowfalls where it used to be impossible, thickness of arctic ice decrease is about 40% (a great ice-hole has been found on the north pole), repetition of droughts has increased in 8 times, power of hurricanes-2 times, increased power of floods. This is the result of lack of foresight, over-materialism and greediness, unwillingness to see the consequences because of the momentary advantages. How it is possible to trap CO2, SO2 and other gases? Commercially gas purification at thermoelectric power stations, ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy plants, cement and chemical plants is being made with filters and cyclones that trap solid parts, and using different absorptive and adsorptive methods.
