Using laser holographic interference technique, the hydrodynamics and mass transfer characteristics of CO2 absorption are measured. It is shown that the calculated results are in good agreement with the experimental data.展开更多

In such a situation, the number of servers is increasing in a data center. Thus, the heat density in a data center is much higher than that of usual offices. And typically, almost 40% of the total power consumption is used for cooling servers in a data center. Thus, cooling effectiveness is one of the most important factors in evaluating the value of the data center. The data center taken up in this paper is located in Ishikari, where is a cold district in Japan. Using the cool outdoor air for cooling servers helps us to cut the power consumption for cooling. This paper first assesses the efficiency of Ishikari data center measuring the temperature of seven parts in a building where the cooling air flowing. Second, this paper describes the most efficient method for the operation and estimates 1.11 of PUE (power usage effectiveness).展开更多

The paper utilizes the technologies of GIS (geographical information systems) and RS (remote sensing) in order to study large amount of weather data recorded in the field from different sources related to oil and gas industry in Rub' AI-Khali desert. The main objective is to identify the wind directions and its movement in Kidan areas and the areas south and east of Shaybah in Rub' Al-Khali desert. The study used different sources of data mainly recorded by the seismic campaigns' base camps and the drilling rig camps or the civil works camps. Wind Roses were created for all metrological weather stations in the study area. Also, the study tried to analyze the dune types using satellite imageries and identify the relation of its shapes to the wind direction. The final aim of the result of this study is to help in planning best locations to build facilities for new major oil and gas project.展开更多

In recent decades, developments in ground and satellite measurements have made the hydrometeorological information readily available, and advances in information technology have facilitated the data analysis in a real-time manner. New progress in climate research and modeling has enabled the prediction of seasonal climate with reasonable accuracy and increased resolution. These emerging techniques and advances have enabled more timely acquisition of accurate hydrological fluxes and status, and earlier warning of extreme hydrological events such as droughts and floods. This paper gives current state-of-the-art understanding of the uncertainties in hydrological monitoring and forecasting, reviews the efforts and progress in operational hydrological monitoring system assisted by observations from various sources and experimental seasonal hydrological forecasting, and briefly introduces the current monitoring and forecasting practices in China. The grand challenges and perspectives for the near future are also discussed, including acquiring and extracting reliable information for monitoring and forecasting, predicting realistic hydrological fluxes and states in the river basin being significantly altered by human activity, and filling the gap between numerical models and the end user. We highlight the importance of understanding the needs of the operational water management and the priority to transfer research knowledge to decision-makers.展开更多
