The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized using XRD, HR-SEM, XPS and BET. The optical properties of Zr-AC, Ni-AC and Zn-AC composites were investigated using UV–Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. The photocatalytic efficiency was verified in the degradation of textile dyeing wastewater(TDW) in UV light irradiation. The chemical oxygen demand(COD) of TDW was observed at regular intervals to calculate the removal rate of COD. Zn-AC composites showed impressive photocatalytic enrichment, which can be ascribed to the enhanced absorbance in the UV light region, the effective adsorptive capacity to dye molecules, the assisted charge transfer and the inhibited recombination of electron-hole pairs. The maximum TDW degradation(82% COD removal) was achieved with Zn-AC. A possible synergy mechanism on the surface of Zn-AC was also designed. Zn-AC could be reused five times without exceptional loss of its activity.展开更多

The results show three bacterial strains, which used pyrene as the sole carbon source, were identified as strains of Aureobacterium sp., Arthrobacter sp., Rhodococcus sp. The PAH-degrading bacteria isolated had a strong ability to degrade phenan-hrene, fluoranthene and pyrene at different degradation rates. The highest degradation rate was observed when three PAH compounds were mixed with an individual strain in the medium. The three PAHs were degraded after one week with a degradation rate of 89.94 % for phenanthrene and 93.4 % for both of fluoranthene and pyrene. In addition, after 25 days of incubation, the degradation rate was 99.98 % for phenanthrene and 99.97 % for both of fluoranthene and pyrene. Optical density was measured to estimate bacterial growth during the degradation of PAHs. Highest levels of bacterial growth were observed with a three PAH mixture in the culture, suggesting that the concentration of PAHs influenced bacterial growth and the highest levels of degradation for most series were detected after one week of incubation.展开更多

As well known, OH radical plays an important role in degrading complex pollutants. This study aims to measure the production of OH radicals and evaluate important parameters that have influent in degradation process of waste water contains ammonia in circulated system and analyze the level of energy consumptions are resulted by this research. The production of OH radical was detected by formation of hydrogen peroxide which was resulted by recombination reaction between OH radicals during plasma electrolysis process. From the measured concentration of hydrogen peroxide, obtained concentration of OH radical is 2,020 ppm. The depth of anode, applied voltage and ammonia initial concentration have affected ammonia degradation percentage and energy consumption level. The highest result for ammonia degradation percentage is 63.2% which gets from applied voltage 700 V, with depth of anode 1 cm, initial concentration of ammonia 100 ppm, and lowest energy consumption of 110 KJ/mmol.展开更多

Although methylmercury (MMHg) photodegradation (PD) is an important process involved in mercury cycling in this zone, little is known about this process. In situ incubation experiments were therefore performed to quantify the effect of different wave- length radiations and environmental factors on the PD process of MMHg in the water bodies of TGR. It was found that the ef- fect of solar radiation on MMHg PD was highly dependent on wavelength and water depth. All PD-rate constants resulting from each wavelength range decreased rapidly with water depth. For surface water, UV-A radiation (320-400 nm) was the key driver, accounting for 49%-62% of MMHg PD. For the entire water column, both photosynthetically active radiation (PAR, 400-700 nm) and UV-A were responsible for MMHg PD. MMHg PD fluxes peaked in summer (7.5-18 ng m-2 d-1), followed by spring (3.3-8.0 ng m-2 d-1), autumn (1.0-2.7 ng m-2 d-1), and winter (0.060-0.15 ng m-2 d-1). The annual fluxes of MMHg PD were estimated to be 1.1-2.8 μg m-2 at. Filtering the reservoir water and amending it with chemicals (i.e., CV, NO C, and dissolved organic matter (DOM)) showed significant effects on MMHg PD rate constants. Stepwise regression analysis showed that intensity of solar radiation, suspended particulate matter (SPM), DOM, CI-, and NO3- were involved in the PD process. Path analysis clarified the relationship between MMHg PD rate constants and environmental variables, as well as the comparative strength of direct and indirect relationships among variables. The results are of great importance for understanding MMHg cycling characteristics in TGR and also facilitate the understanding of the underlying process, MMHg PD, in natural waters.展开更多
