The approach for derivation was according to the principle of equilibrium of forces (i.e., the stress-sharing principle), and it was firstly validated by demonstrating TERZAGHI’s principle of effective stress. And then, the derivations were subdivided into four parts according to different pore air states: 1) air bubbles were spherical and suspended in pore water; 2) air bubbles were bound on soil skeleton; 3) air bubbles held almost the single section of pore; 4) air phase was continuous. The different formulae of effective stress were presented. Conclusions are drawn as follows: 1) For nearly-saturated soils, the "real" effective stress would be a little smaller than TERZAGHI’s effective stress; 2) For soils in which air phase is discontinuous in the form of bubbles, a new concept of pore air elastic pressure is put forward, and the total stress can be constituted by effective stress, pore water pressure and pore air elastic pressure; 3) For soils in which air phase is continuous, effective stress is equal to the value of the total stress plus suction; 4) Suction can be divided into two parts: one is the effect caused by additional pressure, and the other is the contract action by the "skin".展开更多

In the light of principal of virtual work, the simple expression of deflection, bending moment of elastic clamped plate were deduced under the condition of vertical uniform distributed load, horizontal pressure and supporting by elastic foundation, and then, the maximal bending moment expression was derived too. At the same time, the influence degree on square clamped plate by adding horizontal pressure and elastic foundation were analyzed. The results show that the effect of horizontal pressure on maximal bending moment can be ignored when the value of horizontal pressure is two orders of magni- tude less than that of coeificient of elastic stiffness existing elastic foundation.展开更多

The radial stress distribution curve, ground reaction curve, and relation curve between plastic softening region radius and supporting force in three different conditions were drawn respectively. From the comparisons among these results for different conditions, it is found that when the supporting force is the same, the displacement of tunnel wall considering both seepage and strain softening is 85.71% greater than that only considering seepage. The increase values of radial displacement at 0.95 m and plastic softening region radius at 6.6 m show that the seepage and strain softening have the most unfavorable effects on circular opening stability in strain softening rock masses.展开更多

[ Methed] Influences of a-amylase, alkaline concentration, alkaline hydrolysis time and temperature on water holding capability and swelling capacity of dietary fiber were evaluated using single-factor test and orthogonal test. Effects of added dietary fiber from wheat bran on dough absorption ratio, rupture stress of dough and creep resistance were studied. [ Result] When the hydrolysis condi-tions of wheat bran were 0.4% a-amylase at 75 ℃ for 60 rain, further alkaline conditions were 5% sodium hydroxide for 60 min at 65 ℃, dietary fi-ber exhibited fine water holding capability and swelling capacity. The addition of 3%-5% dietary fiber from wheat bran into dough had little influence on the water absorption ratio of noodle, rupture stress of dough, creep resistance and can make functional noodle with rich dietary fiber from wheat bran. [Coonclusion] The study provided reference for the comprehensive utilization of wheat bran and development of functional product.展开更多

First, we use the free energy formula of saturated rock under a tidal force to study the relationships of pore pressure with stress, and stress with strain. Then we analyze the relationship between rock strain and tidal potential by the equilibrium differential equations of saturated rock under tidal force. Finally, we derive the physical relationship between the two parameters (pore pressure and tidal mean stress) of saturated rock and tidal potential. The relationship shows that:pore pressure is directly proportional with tidal potential, but tidal mean stress of saturated rock is inversely proportional with tidal potential. The ratio coefficient is related not only to the Lame coefficients of rock skeletons, but also to the Blot modulus. By using this model to analyze observational well water level of C-18 well which locates in Huili, Sichuan Province, the well level response coefficient (D) was estimated. This way, we derive the Skempton coefficient (B), the coefficient A and C which refer to the response coefficients of pore pressure and tidal stress to tidal potential respectively. Then we compare the differences among each coefficient in coupling and uncoupling conditions. It shows that for saturated rocks, the response of stress and pore pressure to earth tides is a product of coupling, and it is necessary to take into account the coupling effect when we study the mechanical response. The model will provide the basis not only for the study of mechanics and hydrodynamics of well-confined aquifer systems, and the mechanics of faulting under tidal force, but also for quantitative research of the triggering mechanism of tidal forces.展开更多

The pressure distributions of the gas film and temperature fields of the seal rings and gas film are presented considering thermal and elastic distortions. Then, the influences of texturing parameters, including dimple inclination angle and dimple depth, on sealing performance are investigated under different operating parameters such as rotational speeds and seal pressures. The results show that face distortions lead to a decrease in the hydrodynamic effect at high rotational speed. The analysis shows that the opening force can decrease by more than 50% as the rotational speed increases from 0 to 35000 r min^(-1). The influence of face distortion on the seal performance, such as opening force and leakage characteristic, gradually increases with the rotational speed.展开更多
