There is a maximum value in the h-P experimental curve. The heat transfer coefficient increases with decreases in particle diameter in the fully fluidized region. The particle density has less effect on the heat transfer coefficients. High amplitude and low frequency, or low amplitude and high frequency are favorable to heat transfer. Exceedingly high gas velocity is unfavorable to the surface-bed heat transfer. A model based on the 'pocket' theory was proposed for predicting the surface-to-bed heat transfer coefficients in fully fluidized region. The predictions from the model were compared with observed data. The reasonable fit suggests the adequacy of the model.展开更多

The forming of NPSTMW reflects well the ventilation process of the isotherms of the permanent thermocline. The formation process can be divided into the 'ventilation' phase and the 'formation' phase. In the first phase (October-March), with large heat losses at the sea surface from October, the mixed layer deepens and correspondingly, the water mass with low PV emerges and sinks. After continual cooling from October to March, the mixed layer reaches its maximum value ( >300 m) in March. Then, in the second phase (April-June), the mixed layer shoals rapidly from April, a large part of the low PV water mass is sheltered from further air-sea interaction by the emerging seasonal thermocline, and thus forms new NPSTMW. Further analysis indicates that the formation region of warm NPSTMW (17-18℃) is limited between 140°-150°E, while the relatively cold NPSTMW (16-17℃) originates in a wider longitude range (140°-170°E).Climate features of NPSTMW are presented with the use of climatological Levitus (1994 a, b) dataset. It is shown that NPSTMW lies in the region of (130°-170°E, 22°-34°N) with core temperature ranging from about 16-19℃ and potential density around 25-25.8σθ NPSTMW has a three-dimensional structure lying below the seasonal thermocline (about 100 m deep) and reaches almost to 350m depths.展开更多

The ECE is an anticyclonic eddy, barotropicallystructured and centered at 33.64°S and 176.21°E, with warm and salinous-cored subsurface water. The radius of the eddy is of the order O (110 km) and the maximum circumferential velocity is O (40cm s^(-1)); as a result, the relative vorticity is estimated to be O (7 x 10^(-6)s^(-1)). Due to theexistence of the ECE, the mixed layer north of New Zealand becomes deeper, reaching a depth of 300m in the austral winter. The ECE plays an important role in the formation and distribution of theSubtropical Mode Water (STMW) over a considerable area in the South Pacific.展开更多

This model divides the heat transfer into two parts, which are due to the transient heat conduction by the covered clusters and the convection between the uncovered wall and the dispersed phase. Radiation at high temperature is regarded as being additive. The fraction of the covered wall by clusters is revised by a new formula, which is a function of the operating condition and the particle properties. The radiation between the dispersed phase and the uncovered wall includes not only the direct radiation to the uncovered wall, but also the radiation to the clusters and then reflected to the uncovered wall. Calculation was carried out for the CFB heat transfer model. The results were compared with the published typical experimental data of other researchers and showed a good agreement between them.展开更多

First, the authors evaluate the model's performance compared with NCEP-NCAR reanalysis data, showing that the model can reliably reproduce the basic climatology of both winter and summer monsoons over East Asia. Next, it is found that the winter monsoon in East Asia would slightly weaken in the 21st century with spatial differences. Over northern East China, anomalous southerly winds would dominate in the mid-and late-21st century because the zonal land-sea thermal contrast is expected to become smaller, due to a stronger warming trend over land than over ocean. However, the intensity of the summer monsoon in East Asia shows a statistically significant upward trend over this century because the zonal land-sea thermal contrast between East Asia and the western North Pacific would become larger, which, in turn, would lead to larger sea level pressure gradients throughout East Asia and extending to the adjacent ocean.展开更多

The factors considered included the payback period, average rate of return, net present value, and net benefit-cost ratio. The model was based on utilising the energy source to energise four models that comprised thermal equipment consisting of water/air cooled single/half effect lithium bromide water mixture absorption chillers and an R-245fa organic Rankine cycle. These modelled cycles were based on the energy demand for Waddan city a community in southern Libya which has a demand for combined cooling/electricity only or cooling/electricity with district hot water supply. The results revealed that all of the proposed simulated stand-alone models, except the water-cooled half effect chiller, are not economically viable unless they are heavily subsidized or combined with the district hot water supply at least in the winter season.展开更多

Solar thermal collectors, particularly all-glass evacuated tubular collectors, have been studied and developed for 30 years, and solar thermal industry has developed rapidly for 15 years. There are various solar thermal systems, with an operation area of around 108 million m2 in 2007. These systems mainly provide domestic hot water, but some other applications are under extensive study and development as well.展开更多

Amongst these fin types the serrated fins assume lot of importance due to its enhanced thermo-hydraulic performance. Thermo-hydraulic design of CHEs (Compact heat exchangers) is strongly dependent upon the predicted/measured dimensionless performance (Colburnj factor and Fanning friction vs. Reynolds number) of heat transfer surfaces. This paper describes the numerical analysis to study the heat transfer coefficient and friction factor of Serrated fins in water medium. CFD (Computational fluid dynamics) methodology has been used to develop the single phase water heat transfer coefficient and friction factor correlations for serrated fins using ANSYS Fluent 14.5. The results are compared with previous air-cooled models and experimental results of water. The water cooled CFD analysis results shows that the Prandtl number has a large effect on the Nusselt number of the serrated fin geometry. Finally, the generalized correlations are developed for serrated fins taking all geometrical parameters into account. This numerical estimation can reduce the number of tests/experiments to a minimum for similar applications.展开更多
