The hierarchically porous ZSM‐5 featured high thermal and hydrothermal stability. The obtained ZSM‐5zeolites were systematically characterized by X‐ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, N2 adsorption‐desorption, NH3 temperature‐programmed desorption, and 27Al and 31P magic‐angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Theprepared ZSM‐5 displayed enhanced activity and prolonged lifetime toward hydrocarbon cracking. The high activity was attributed to improved coke tolerance owing to the presence of the highlystable mesoporous network of ZSM‐5 and acid sites introduced upon phosphorus modification.Additionally a mechanism of the stabilization of the zeolites by phosphorus was proposed and discussed.展开更多

By artificially acclimating and cultivating strains attached onto carbon surface, the selected strains can be intensified for their degradation to organic matters. The research indicates that ozonation process increases AOC concentration considerably, however, it is beneficial to microdegradation. Temperature and empty bed contact time ( TEBC ) are two important factors affecting microbiology. From 14 to 27 ℃, intensified biological carbon can remove AOC better compared with granular activated carbon (GAC). Under identical TERC, intensified technique increases more than 10% AOC reduction.展开更多

Structural stability for the tunnel and also the nearby structures and facilities is vital in this kind of work. Slurry pipe jacking was firmly established as a special method for the non-disruptive construction of underground pipelines of sewage systems. This method utilizes mud slurry that is formed around the pipes in order to stabilize the surrounding soil. In the pipe roof method the tubing elements that are constructed by slurry pipe jacking are near each other longitudinally, and create a rigid and stable lining before the excavation of the main tunnel. This paper discusses 'the application of a slurry pipe jacking system on 'the pipe roof method by means of numerical analysis. Because of the rigid behavior of the lining, the results show little subsidence, making this method a reliable method of constructing large tunnels with small cover in an urban area.展开更多

In this paper, the overall capacity of vertical subsurface flow CWs in the removal of pollutants from municipal wastewater effluent and the effects of the depth of vegetated submerged bed on the removal efficiency were studied. The results showed that the COD, NH+4-N and TN could be removed effectively in the vertical subsurface flow CWs and the best efficiency was obtained from the 10 cm run. However, the TP removal was not effective in all vertical CWs. A shallow depth of vegetated submerged bed may avoid the risk of substrate plugging effectively, and may keep a stable operation of CWs in long term. Decreasing the depth of vegetated submerged bed could create a sufficient aerobic circumstance in which the concentration of DO (dissolved oxygen) in bed was super saturation.展开更多

An abundance of crushed rocks are available in Western Australia but do not meet strength requirements for road construction. However, cement treatment of crushed rocks, forming Cement Treated Crushed Rocks (CTCR), improves the mechanical properties of the material, allowing wider application. In order to streamline the mix design of CTCR, the classification of its behaviour is pivotal. Austroad classifies cement treated pavement materials as either being modified or bound based on its Unconfined Compressive Strength (UCS) and performance attributes. Bound materials are def'med by its susceptibility to fatigue failure which, in the mechanistic-empirical design for flexible pavements, is dictated by the flexural modulus. However, in the study of damage mechanics, fatigue life is suggested to be an accumulation of micro-scale damage in lieu of dependency to ultimate stresses. Strain dependent damage functions are used phenomologically to explain the evolution of fatigue for various engineering materials. This paper therefore investigates a theoretical relationship between strain and fatigue life prediction supported by a laboratory investigation on the use of UCS for classification. This is achieved by providing regression analysis with strain parameters used in fatigue life prediction. The Indirect Tensile Strength (ITS) test is also employed to this end. It is observed that strain at onset of micro-cracking coalescence (ε30) is independent of test type undertaken and potentially capable of acting as a more superior blanket classification for cemented materials.展开更多
