The initial s... A high_CO 2_requiring mutant of Synechococcus sp. PCC7942 has been isolated after chemical mutagenesis of ethyl methane sulphonate (EMS). It was able to grow at 4% CO 2, but not under ambient CO 2. The initial screening of the mutant showed that the genetic reversion rate was about 10 -7 and death occurred 2-3 days after being transferred from 4% CO 2 to the ambient air. Its photosynthetic dependence on external dissolved inorganic carbon was higher than that of the wild type cells, but its carbonic anhydrase activity was comparatively low. In the ultrastructural level, various types of aberrant carboxysomes appeared in the mutant cells: rod_shaped carboxysomes, irregular carboxysomes and the “empty_inclusion carboxysomes" with increasing number of glycogen granules surrounding the thylakoids. All these alterations indicated that the mutant was defective in utilizing the external CO 2. The induction of carboxysomes by lower levels of CO 2 and the biogenesis of carboxysomes are herein discussed. 展开更多

We discuss an object from algebraic topology,Hopf invariant,and reinterpret it in terms of the φ-mappingtopological current theory.The main purpose of this paper is to present a new theoretical framework,which can directlygive the relationship between Hopf invariant and the linking numbers of the higher dimensional submanifolds of Euclideanspace R^(2n-1).For the sake of this purpose we introduce a topological tensor current,which can naturally deduce the(n-1)-dimensional topological defect in R^(2n-1) space.If these (n-1)-dimensional topological defects are closed orientedsubmanifolds of R^(2n-1),they are just the (n-1)-dimensional knots.The linking number of these knots is well defined.Using the inner structure of the topological tensor current,the relationship between Hopf invariant and the linkingnumbers of the higher-dimensional knots can be constructed. 展开更多

Therefore, risk of seismic events in underground mines is escalating. Additionally, existence of the large ratio of horizontal to vertical stress, could be a potential reason for high-stress condition and occurrence of dynamic activities. Depending on various parameters such as the level of induced stress, rock properties, etc., ground demand changes and it is difficult to estimate. On the other hand,under seismic condition, energy dissipation and deformation capacity of supports is the most important factors, however, rock support performance factors in dynamic conditions are still under investigation.Expanding the knowledge of reinforcement behaviour and capacity, specifically that of the rockbolt as a primary element in seismic conditions, would help to develop a suitable, safe and economic support design. This paper contains various methods to estimate ground demand including the intact rock properties approach, failure thickness and ejection velocity estimation, and rockburst damage potential method. It also covers measurement methods of rockbolts energy dissipation capacities such as drop test,blasting simulating, back calculation and momentum transfer measurement methods. A large-scale dynamic test rig is also explained. Based on the findings, a table and a graph to show the applicable range of each type of rockbolts were presented. Suitable rockbolt types for various ground energy demand and deformation capacity range were categorised in the table and the graph. The presented support selection method facilitates the selection of a suitable reinforcement system at the preliminary stages of design and guides the designer to adjust the support reinforcement system based on observed ground and support reaction. 展开更多

Solution of false alarm and slow response in flame detector

A new flame detector with one ultraviolet and two infrared detectors is designed. The ultraviolet detector is of rapid response(≤10 μs) while the two infrared detectors usually have a response time of more than 5 ms. The ultraviolet detector is applied to deal with the flame of large scales. When facing the flame of mid or small scales, the three detectors cooperate. Employing the high-order derivatives of the sample data of the infrared circuits to improve the sensitivity, the response speed is greatly improved. The data of the temperature sensor is used to adjust circuit parameters in real time, thus reducing the effect of temperature drift. The flame detectors are tested at different distances and the response time is as rapid as 0.65 ms. The test results show that the new flame detector has the characteristics of high speed and a low rate of false alarms. 展开更多

Traditionally, organizations assume that compensation/pay and monetary benefits are what all employees need to work harder, be productive, or remain with the company. According to Abraham Maslow, within every person is a hierarchy of five needs: physiological needs, safety needs, social needs, esteem needs, and self-actualization needs Organizations must be able to identify what employees desire to secure optimum performance and to meet the needs of both employees and employers. This research focuses on the generational gap and the significance of intrinsic and extrinsic rewards in the workforce. The purpose and objective of this research are to test the significance of monetary versus non-monetary rewards among the different generations in the organization. A self-designed questionnaire distributed to a multi-generational group of employees of selected organizations was used to collect the analyzed data. Sixty-five (65%) responses were obtained. Secondary data were used to elucidate the needs in this area of study. Because the workforce is predicted to become more diverse in terms of age, organizations will be unlikely to implement one set of rewards for the multiple generations. This is due to the differing expectations and requirements among the generations. However, the results indicate no significant difference in monetary versus non-monetary rewards among the different generations in the workforce. 展开更多
