The Japanese Waxwing,Bombycilla japonica,is so far known occurring in the Far East,breeding in the area of E Russia extending to the north NE China and wintering in relatively much larger a ange including Japan,N and ...The Japanese Waxwing,Bombycilla japonica,is so far known occurring in the Far East,breeding in the area of E Russia extending to the north NE China and wintering in relatively much larger a ange including Japan,N and S Korea,and almost the whole E and S China.Though the bird had been recorded a winter visitor at Wuyuan,of NE Jiangxi province in SE China,as early as in the mid-1990s,from 2002,we frequently saw the bird at different localities in the county not only in winter season but in spring and summer also.We found two flocks of the Japanese Waxwing at Wuyuan in spring and summer season,one in the north and one in the central part of the county,with the highest number of 33 birds and 25-26 birds of each flock counted in early May and in mid-July in 2002 respectively,and,the highest number of a flock of the bird that far counted in winter season is about 30 birds in central E Wuyuan in 2004.Though until now we have not yet collected any breeding records of the bird in the county,the above data might reveal that there is a small subpopulation of the Japanese Waxwing residing in Wuyuan all the year through.展开更多
